QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 30, 2017 -> 12:01 PM) And the Orioles are looking for more? For a RENTAL? What idiots. That is one hell of a return. I read the tweet as the names being mentioned - rather than both of them being offered concurrently. You'd have to imagine Baltimore isn't stupid enough to turn down such a deal... but then again, this is Baltimore we're talking about... after all.

Plant me firmly in the "we need at least another year of in house evaluations before we go off making any big moves" crowd. -
For those of you who like me, didn't have a clue about this kid... have at it: Maiker Feliz Position: 3B Born: 08/17/97 Ht: 6'0" Wt: 195 B-T: R-R Acquired: Signed for $450,000 in 2013 from the Dominican Republic. Scouting report One of the higher profile international signings the club has made in the past few years ($450,000 in 2013), Feliz tore up the DSL as a 17-year-old. DSL stats usually are taken with a grain of salt, but even then a .349/.455/.446 line with a substantial walk rate and decent contact rate are impressive at that age. It is even more impressive when you remember that Feliz was more well known for his defense than his hitting when he signed. Feliz struggled when he was promoted to the AZL White Sox at the end of the 2015 season during their league championship run (10 K in 9 G, .161 AVG), though that was only 9 games. Feliz repeated AZL for his age 18 season, and the core numbers weren't great (he hit .214) but he did still continue to draw walks and make OK contact. He played 3B exclusively. Clearly, patience will be key for the 18-year-old as he is in his first full season stateside. According to Baseball America, scouts see him as a line drive hitter “with average bat speed and a chance to be an above average defender”. Feliz has average foot speed as well. Any power that Feliz has will have to come along as he fills out his frame. Defense will be where Feliz hangs his hat while his hitting develops, as scouts claim that Feliz has good hands and strong arm for the hot corner. In-person looks in his 2nd AZL trip saw a hitter raw in plan and getting caught between at the plate, but that's not unexpected at his age. Major League Outlook: Defense-oriented third baseman ETA: 2020 Taken from: http://www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/maiker-feliz/

I've been looking forward to following this kid since we picked him up - just such an interesting story all around. Our area scout was through the roof on this dude back then, hard to not be interested.

QUOTE (Soha @ Dec 24, 2017 -> 08:34 AM) I'm not sure where Clint Frazier's value is now. I know he was a fringe top 20 prospect, but I think that's fallen a good deal, whether fair or not. I don't think I'd give up any prospects above Cease. So...how about: To NYY: Cole To Pittsburgh: Sheffield, Dylan Cease + lower lottery ticket prospect from NYY To CWS: Clint Frazier Prospect ranking for me personally among the three goes: Sheffield, Cease, Frazier If we somehow got involved, I'd only want to be a part of the party if we landed them both. Fulmer + Dunning + Sheets for Cole with us getting Sheffield and Frazier? Meh... my guess is Pittsburg would prefer the spanke prospects too.
-
QUOTE (Soha @ Dec 24, 2017 -> 07:05 AM) Well I certainly don't blame Pittsburgh for wanting a better headliner than Clint Frazier. Perhaps we could give them one... which of our prospects would be more enticing for Pittsburg and would justify us trading for Frazier and Sheffield from NY?

QUOTE (beautox @ Dec 23, 2017 -> 03:25 PM) https://medium.com/minor-league-madhouse/20...on-75bb9b03f3e9 Saying he could be a #2 on our team is saying a lot. So, that means he's better than ALL of our current pitchers except Kopech?

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 22, 2017 -> 10:52 PM) Quotes from their co-founder... “We will wait every local paper out and let them continuously bleed until we are the last ones standing,” Alex Mather, a co-founder of The Athletic, said in an interview in San Francisco. “We will suck them dry of their best talent at every moment. We will make business extremely difficult for them.” and about blogs... “In a city like Chicago, there are 100,000 die-hard fans,” Mather said. “That is a very lucrative subscription business. There are over 100,000 die-hard fans of Chicago teams outside of Chicago,” he added, and he says they aren’t served well. “Bleacher Report is empty calories. SB Nation is empty calories. The newspapers are doing nothing.” If you follow SouthSideSox on twitter, you will have seen their username was "Empty Calories" for a while. Doesn't bother me.

QUOTE (Quin @ Dec 22, 2017 -> 11:44 AM) Push for Yelich next year once we know what we've got. Maybe Rutherford has a huge rebound, Dunning and Burger enter the Top 100, etc. And I wouldn't make the trade without signing someone like Machado. But man, think of that lineup. CF - Yelich 2B - Moncada 3B - Machado 1B - Abreu LF - Garcia RF - Jimenez C - Castillo DH - Delmonico? SS - Anderson OK, pipe dream over. My bed sheets are wet upon waking -
95+ heater with control struggles just recent converted from catcher in 2016. Interestingly enough made a jump from high A to the bigs last year pitching in limited action. Also threw in a winter league displaying the above. More at MLBTR.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Dec 22, 2017 -> 11:05 AM) No thanks. Now is not the time to be paying kings ransom prices for anyone not named Mike Trout. Give these guys 2018 to develop and hopefully in 12/2018 we're in a spot to spend a bunch of money and pull off a trade or 2 that puts us in contention for 2019. +1 -

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 11:30 AM) He fell pretty hard going into last year in a bunch of lists -- I think there were a couple lists that left him off even then. He was back quarter in practically all the rest. I know that he made it to the MLB with a good ERA, but the peripherals are downright terrifying -- and for prospect guys, that's important. I just don't know that you can look at a guy that took a second attempt at the big leagues, struck out 6 batters per nine and stuck in games thanks to a 92% strand rate and think that he's MORE promising. Not at all saying he isn't a valuable prospect, but in the context of the conversation (Yelich value), a package led by GIolito in 2017 isn't in the same stratosphere as a package led by Moncada in 2016. Ah - got ya... we're on the same page then.
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 11:17 AM) I still think that's wrong. Moncada was consensus 1 overall, Devers was top ten overall on many, top 20 on all. Kopech was ~50-ish usually, sure. But 2017, Giolito may not even be on some top 100s. Robert and Hansen are probably ~50-ish. Some may even be lower on Robert because of his age. If Giolito was eligible - you really don't think he would be a top prospect?
