I'm looking forward to watching the Hanie-led Bears today. I may even be excited. Something is wrong with me. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 20, 2011 -> 10:43 PM) The sad part is that Cutler didn't even make the tackle. Forte did. He probably didn't need to go after Cason the way he did. Cutler made it a little bit easier for Forte to get the guy out of bounds. -

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 10:17 AM) Not really. Guys generally get more money the earlier they are drafted. So why have the team with the least amount of money be expecteed to pay the most amount for a single player? As it currently is, just because you are the worst team does not mean you are the poorest team. If anything, it's rewarding cheap spending and teams possibly trading away talented players just to drop their salary and get a better draft spot. I can't see why Boras would ever want to encourage a decline in team payrolls. Revenue, people, revenue. Not payroll. It did not mention payroll.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 15, 2011 -> 06:21 PM) If this doesn't shame Gordon into remembering how to play baseball, nothing will. Two years ago he was one of the up and coming young stars in baseball. Now there's legitimate talk of him being bounced by super stud Edjuardo Escobar. I don't think it's all that legitimate. I think it was the offseason in which Jermaine Dye left that there was stuff floated about the Sox considering Stefan Gartrell as a possible starter.

He's been a spring training instructor. Heh.

I'd like to see the bears run up the score. I wouldn't be surprised if the tie breaker made it all the way to point differential. -

UZR really liked De Aza's defense last year. Dude put up a 2.8 fangraphs WAR in 54 games. Sure, a lot of that was BABIP, but that's impressive. -
Yeah, it's true that the Marlins offered them all hefty contracts.

I've been a member of a credit union for 15 years. My wife and I have had smaller accounts with commercial banks since getting married 6 years ago. There is no comparison between the experiences. The credit union provides quicker access to your money (so far as I can tell, you can deposit a check of any amount at an ATM and instantly have access to those funds), doesn't have any minimum balance amounts for free checking, has lower overdraft fees, etc. My credit union is based in the Chicago suburbs and we moved to Saint Louis over a year ago. That's still our main account, as there have been ATMs where we can make deposits within walking distance of both places we have lived in Saint Louis thanks to co-op networks. The national bank chain that we have account with (and are closing) has no place to make deposits unless we drive into Illinois.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 4, 2011 -> 11:27 PM) It says on Yahoo that Thome is going to the Phillies for 1.25 million. Two questions: 1.) Why would the Phillies want a DH on their team?? For the games against the AL? Seems dumb to have a roster spot for a guy who is basically a pinch hitter. 2.) Why would an old vet like Thome want to sit the bench all season? I know baseball isn't a real job and a million bucks is great, but isn't there some AL team that could use him as a part time DH? Or full time DH? Twins maybe?? Indians maybe?? He'll get time at first base. Howard won't be back to start the season.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 04:25 PM) So Jeff Manto's silly little stat -- (R+RBI-HR)/G -- tweaked to account for the fact that a HR earns you both a run and an RBI as opposed to just one or the other -- (R+RBI-(HR*2))/G -- when calculated for last year's team looks something like this: 0.815 De Aza 0.797 Pierre 0.766 Ramirez 0.752 Konerko 0.695 Quentin 0.566 Rios 0.560 Beckham 0.543 Pierzynski 0.517 Viciedo 0.516 Morel 0.500 Flowers 0.459 Dunn 0.448 Vizquel 0.423 Lillibridge 0.314 Teahen Now, what have we learned? Absolutely nothing. Not that the formula has any merit, but it already accounted for the homerun's run and rbi thing by subtracting homeruns once. Why are you taking them out a second time? The idea is that when you knock yourself in, then you are only creating one run.

I have a 2003 Honda Insight that I drive to work. It pushes 60 MPG in the summer. It's a two-seater Hybrid, but is much sturdier than something like a Smart Car or a Miata. Our family car is a 1999 Civic (four door).

Dave Duncan has one year left on his contract, but the Cards are saying the new manager will have complete control over the coaching staff. Hard to imagine that any manager--especially a first time manager--would want to ditch Duncan, but it will be interesting to see how it shakes out.

Yeah, that part was dumb.

I'm watching with the sound off. Were they showing Donovan McNabb's mom while he was getting the s*** knocked out of him? That seems low. It's hilarious that Cutler had the presence of mind to signal for the penalty on his way to the ground after a vicious hit. -

I was thinking about the Hester HOF discussion we had the other week. The difference between return TDs and other TDs is the amount of agency that the scorer has. A kick returner has way more responsibility for their TD than the average NFL TD. -
