QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 03:19 PM) I think he's likely to go to Arby's. In fact, the entire team should go to Arby's. Because they have good mood food. http://www.theonion.com/articles/arbys-has...their-bu,20178/

4/20 GAME THREAD: Sox @ Rays, 5:40pm CT

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 20, 2011 -> 06:22 PM) Will we ever lead in a game again? If so, when? Nevah. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 14, 2011 -> 05:10 PM) That was exactly my first thought. Dusty better not dare ruin that arm. No s***. The Player's Association should be able to sanction managers like that. Their pitching substitutions should be handled by a court-appointed guardian.

QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 08:52 PM) Just Fine≠Difference Maker. Paul, James, Howard, Wade all excel on both ends. Looks like Rose had a higher defensive win share than Paul this year and equal points allowed per 100 possessions. I don't know enough about basketball metrics to evaluate that, but there it is.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 07:30 AM) i am certainly willing to accept and use hollingers PER and other metrics when objectively evaluating a player, but can someone clear something up for me. Are these metrics actually vetted? I mean, with all the baseball metrics, countless people who are a heck of alot smarter than 99% of us have spent their careers researching these things. I'm not saying PER isn't helpful, but it seems that PER is just something Hollinger came up with? It doesnt seem as thoroughly investigated and proven as the baseball stats. Its very possible that I'm wrong (as I simply dont know nearly as much about basketball metrics as I do baseball) so I was wondering if anyone could tell me otherwise. At any rate....I realize that these objective stats tell us that Paul and others have been better than Rose. My eyes tell me otherwise when I watch the game. I just don't how much weight to put into the former....its certainly less than with baseball stats. Actually, this has been a major criticism of PER. It's just a hodge podge of efficiency metrics that Hollinger thinks are important. However, other, more widely accepted efficiency metrics, also pin Paul as the better player. Efficiency isn't the be-all-end-all in basketball that it is in baseball, though. Someone needs to take the shots.

SAS gave up 43 points in the first quarter...

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 05:14 AM) Someone in the game thread last night mentioned a stat where Matt Thornton has more blown saves in his career than saves. Insane. How the f*** can we keep trotting him out there in that role?!?! That would be the case for pretty much any career setup man. Blown save would mean giving up the lead in the 7th, 8th, or 9th I believe.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 05:21 PM) How about Dayan having 2 whole walks already this season? More or less surprising than Alexei's current OBP of .350 or .360 something?

Floyd's slow start last year was mostly bad luck. Last April had a 20:12 K:BB and gave up 2 homeruns in 5 starts. That's kind of meh, but nothing like his ERA would have suggested. He had one terrible game on April 18. In May he had a 23:8 K:BB, but gave up 4 homeruns.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 06:28 AM) Was that really a slider that Jackson was throwing? I've never seen a slider with that much downward movement. The ball was diving straight down, as if falling off a table. That looks more like a splitter to me. The velocity was pretty consistently around 87 to 89. Does that seem a little high for a split finger fastball? Check out some Stephen Strasburg highlights. His slider has similar movement (and then some).

Adam Dunn had emergency appendectomy last night.
JorgeFabregas replied to justBLAZE's topic in Pale Hose Talk
White Sox are conservative with injured players, with a few exceptions. I doubt he'll play, no matter what he's determined to do. -
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 4, 2011 -> 08:44 AM) Didn't he have what was considered a pretty unlucky year when it came to balls in play or something that contributed to those inflated numbers? A little unlucky in terms of BABIP, but very lucky in terms of flyballs not turning into homeruns.

A half game behind the dreaded Royals, but leading the division in run differential

People say he can be the next Jamie Moyer because of his pitching style and durability. But Jamie Moyer essentially rehabbed his arm every off season as if he was coming off major surgery. I don't think MB has that type of single-mindedness.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 25, 2011 -> 10:40 AM) The organization formally known as the players association really needs to muzzle it's players. they arent helping themselves. So you don't like Kluwe's analysis? -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 25, 2011 -> 10:37 AM) No. My Lord no that is such an inaccurate statement. It's inaccurate that he's borderline or inaccurate that he's top 20 in the AL? Fangraphs had him at #12 in WAR right behind Danks last year. And Floyd's 2009 WAR was higher than it was in 2010.

QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Mar 24, 2011 -> 09:52 AM) I was under the impression that the pitching staff loved AJ and that his game calling was widely respected despite sub-par "defensive" metrics ... given the fact that we have some borderline starters in the 3, 4 (EJaxx, Gavin) spot and MB is getting on in years, think his value is completely understated in his ability to help this staff pitch to the best of their ability ... Plus, it's not like a lot of teams get much OF production from the catcher and our line-up has plenty of OF firepower; AJ also tends to at least be a decent contact hitter because he swings at everything. Thoughts? Gavin Floyd is borderline? He's probably a top 20 pitcher in the AL.

QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Mar 12, 2011 -> 12:30 AM) The more I'm thinking about it, the more I'm thinking of going to Virgin Mobile and getting the LG Optimus V phone with a $25 unlimited data (unlimited internet/texts/instant messages/email) and 300 calling minutes plan. So far this seems like the perfect plan for me. It has the lowest amount of calling minutes and gives me the unlimited data I need. Does anyone have any experience with Virgin Mobile? Don, the LG Optimus for Virgin Mobile is currently available on Best Buy's site for $20 off the normal price.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 11, 2011 -> 09:56 AM) There is nothing illegal about it. As I understand it, if you order something online from a business in another state, its the same as when you buy something while travelling and they elect to ship it to you to avoid sales tax. Check your IL 2010 income tax forms. They ask specifically about such purchases.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 08:32 PM) Jesus step back from the ledge. It's an ankle injury (confirmed). 2 weeks maximum. Furthermore, the Bulls are now closer to 1st place (1.5 games) than 3rd place (2.5 games).

I thought it was funny that Thomas went from out of the rotation, to starter, to out of the rotation.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 04:12 PM) granted he is seemingly taking a lot of jump shots, but he was never a low post monster with power moves, he is kind of a finesse player From what I recall, he would work in the high post and slash towards the basket with the ball. I haven't seen any of that in the couple of times I've watched him this year.
