QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 8, 2011 -> 02:32 PM) Solid RBI single to CF for Flowers. Yeah, it was a breaking ball.

QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Mar 6, 2011 -> 11:33 AM) Hey Jorge, thanks for replying. I really don't do that much travelling, and when I do it's usually to other cities such as Vegas. I'm seriously considering the Samsung Intercept, and the 25/month prepay plan. Do you have any experience with the prepay plans from Virgin? Is this something where, if I have to make a phone call, that I'll have to punch in codes from a pre-pay phone card? Or is it simplified by just pre-paying once a month and you can just make phone calls without having to punch in codes from a prepay phone card? And do you have to "update" your phone everyday with the prepay information? An android phone for 25 a month sounds awesome. I'm gonna have to look at the coverage map. I live in the south suburbs (Orland/Tinley area) hopefully there won't be a lot of dead zones or anything. Have you had Virgin phones before? In what way was the signal spotty? I have a dumb phone from Virgin. It worked fine in the western suburbs when I lived there--I didn't spend much time in the south suburbs. Their data and SMS can be a little dodgy. Definitely check out the map. No, the prepayment doesn't work like that at all. I have it set up so that paypal sends my monthly fee to them each month. If you are going for the Intercept, then I would wait until they roll out Android 2.2. I don't know when they'll be done rolling it out, but as I mentioned they are starting later this month.

How much travelling do you do? If not much and you live near an urban center, I would recommend Virgin. They have two Android phones (the better of the two is the LG Optimus, but the Samsung Intercept is one with a keyboard). Plans with unlimited data/email, texting, and 300 minutes start at $25/month. It uses Sprint's native 3G network (not 4G). Target and Best Buy have the Optimus on sale this week. I would recommend trying it out and seeing if it works for you, then returning it if not. The coverage is a little spotty and they don't allow roaming (check out their coverage area maps). The Intercept will be getting v. 2.2 of Android on March 22nd. The prepayment isn't much of a hassle and you can schedule automatic payments. There are rumors about Virgin getting a new Android device later this year. I don't know if it will have a qwerty keyboard, but if you got the Virgin route you might want to upgrade later because it will likely have a faster radio/antenna than the Intercept.

I don't know anything about pitching motions, but his motion looked odd to me.

Does MLB Network typically have a gun reading on their spring training broadcasts?
-
I don't get the Tiger hype. I like their lineup, but their starting rotation looks to have two excellent pitchers and a lot of backwash.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 2, 2011 -> 11:51 PM) This happens to me every year. I get so psyched for spring training to get underway and I'm faced with the reality that at least half the players I'm either listening to on the radio, online or watching should probably be working at a local deli. I have to imagine that spring training is more fun when your system is loaded with good prospects that you don't otherwise get to see. Sox fans are just hoping that Peavy gets healthy and no one gets hurt.

How does a buyout work if he'd lose money, then? I thought they had to pay the full remainder of the contract.

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Feb 23, 2011 -> 10:03 PM) How does Kurt Thomas compare to Joakim in defensive stats? Well, I don't know very much about NBA metrics, but I saw one state that had Kurt Thomas as one of the 20 best defensive players this year. I noticed that the Bulls went to number 1 in Hollinger's defensive efficiency rankings while Noah was out.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 24, 2011 -> 01:10 PM) Mark Buehrle disagrees. I know you are referring to to MB complaining about the Rangers cheating, but his career stats are surprisingly good against Texas. 123.2 IP, 1.10 WHIP, 3.42 ERA, 58:21 K:BB.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 23, 2011 -> 04:53 PM) WTF is an NL Only hitter? I mean, I can understand an AL Only hitter because he needs to DH and can't play defense (Jim Thome), but NL Only? WTF? Just in case anyone was wondering, here is Dunn's OPS vs AL teams BAL 51 AB .850 BOS 24 AB .906 CWS 23 AB .170 CLE 129 AB .894 DET 23 AB 1.230 KC 22 AB 1.059 LAA 24 AB .798 NYY 29 AB .604 OAK 28 AB .604 SEA 28 AB .721 TB 35 AB .589 TEX 31 AB 1.848 TOR 35 AB 1.026 Yahoo doesn't list any stats against the Twins.

Agreed. The league isn't going to make him miss much, if any, time.

I think 2006 was the last time that I had expectations this high for the Sox.

Neil Walker was a pretty common fantasy waiver wire pickup last year because he was batting second and was pretty productive for a 2B. He actually was a 1st round draft pick for the Bucs all the way back in 2004.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 13, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) And for all of those who said Lebron cant play SG, Spoelstra just said that Lebron defends all 5 positions and plays 4 offensive positions during the game. Meaning that currently Lebron plays SG. I'm sure Lebron can play SG, but who cares what his coach says? The position a player defends is verifiable by watching the game. So which centers has Lebron defended? I'm asking because I haven't been watching.

Consumer goods and gadgets are incredibly cheap because they're made in China (or have their prices dragged down by Chinese competition). Let's not confuse that with true buying power, though. The things that almost everybody agrees are worthwhile (as opposed to plastic disposable crap) such as education, medical care, and housing are incredibly expensive. As long as everyone's listing them--I don't have cable, I have basic DSL, and my wife and I use Virgin Mobile (which is 1/2 the cost of the main carriers). Netflix is our only other recurring entertainment expenditure. We watch it on a Roku box and a 15 year-old TV. Oh, and we've never bought a car that cost more than 4k. I do not understand how coworkers in similar positions always seems to have $10, $20, or $30k cars.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) The point I've been trying to get across, is that if an animal is harvested correctly, there is no "suffering". When an animal is shot through a vital organ, especially the heart/lungs they die instantly. They do not suffer. And that is the problem with what Michael Vick did, and what factory farms do everyday. I'm not buying a violent death sans suffering. However, I am just jumping in at the tail end of the thread here and was only commenting on that single post. Hunting seems much more ethical to me than eating animals raised in a factory farm, but I don't do either.
-
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 01:46 PM) Vegans make me laugh. Do you people live in a house? How many animals were displaced when your house was built? And tell me again what is your house made of? Wood? Trees are habitat to many species of animals. I can't believe you people would take an animals home like that. How could you? Do you wear leather shoes or do you go barefoot all the time. Have you ever played a sport with a ball made of leather? Vegans act so superior, but there just as big of hypocrites as everyone else. Anyone who takes any moral stance runs the risk hypocrisy. If hypocrisy is the worst crime, then it would be better not to have any morals at all. Of course, whether it's hypocritical or not depends entirely on how the issue is framed. If it's a question of reducing the human-induced suffering of animals, then vegans are no hypocrites.

QUOTE (joeynach @ Feb 9, 2011 -> 04:02 PM) After reading this post I can not believe that Young makes $16M. Hes a solid player but $16M+ salaries are reserved for cant miss automatic all stars that bring something spectacular to the table (either offense or defense). I believe a lot of people thought his contract was questionable when he signed it. He won a Gold Glove in 2008 despite the fact that he has never been a good defender. He signed his contract extension in January of 2009. A plus defender at SS with a good bat might be worth that much (although it was doubtful at his age), but it's the Rangers' fault for mistaking him for a plus defender.

2011 Twins talent vs. White Sox talent

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 09:53 PM) Thome played above himself last year too. He'll get fewer at-bats if Morneau plays even close to 140 games next year. Yeah, but Kubel was probably unlucky (low BABIP for him). -

QUOTE (WhiteSUX @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 09:40 PM) Dunn over Kubel/Thome......I guess you have high hopes for Adam. That's not far-fetched. Kubel and Thome had a combined 38 runs above replacement last year. Dunn produced 37.8 runs above replacement. -

QUOTE (WhiteSUX @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 09:19 PM) Ok guys. But seriously, what do you think of your team this year? Is Dunn going to make any difference? Jesse Crain really isn't that bad and wish we could have kept him. Best of luck to you this year and would like to hear your thoughts on us? Twins have a better lineup, White Sox have better starting pitching. They both seem like 90 win teams to me. It will probably come down to injuries (Peavy, Morneau, etc.) -

QUOTE (WhiteSUX @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 08:50 PM) Just wondering what you guys think of your team this year? Talent to win it all, middle of the pack, or Kansas City Royals bad? Here in Minnesota we expect to win our 3rd consecutive division title and think we have the top talent again this year in the Central. Congrats on the Jesse Crain signing. Jesse likes to get highlights in his hair so he and A.J. should get along just fine. They do nothing on the field and eat up alot of payroll so they already have alot of chemistry. Ok.
