QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 07:08 PM) Not really; what am I missing? A Mortal Kombat reference? An Iliad reference? You're missing Occam's razor. It's a dick joke. Well, sort of. http://www.merriam-webster.com/audio.php?f...El%C4%81t\

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 10:08 PM) This. Outside of Brewer I think the bulls have looked fantastic so far this year. Inside of Ronnie Brewer it's too dark to see.

QUOTE (maki @ Nov 11, 2010 -> 11:52 AM) I really hope he doesn't blow through loads of money on this crap, repeating the ventures of 99% of sports players' forays into the entertainment industry. Seems inevitable.

Are bullpen guys any less likely to get hurt than starters? Sure, they don't have the wear and tear of innings pitched, but they have less recovery time and more frequent bullpen sessions. If the Sox think Sale will always be injury-prone because of his motion, then the most strategic and mercenary move would be to have him start in order to get good innings out of him while he's super cheap.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 4, 2010 -> 09:44 PM) If I was the GM or owned the Bulls, Id fire the coach before he even got back to the locker room. There is just no excuse for this, the Bulls had a legitimate shot and they dont put in their damn best player. I cant even fathom this, what the hell. Two or three best players. The only thing I can think of is that Thibs was unhappy with Rose's perimeter defense. Or maybe someone was hurt.

Hearing Farmer pronounce the name as "Jone-son" (as he does for everyone with that name) would drive me nuts.

I doubt they'll need to play any more minutes than they have for most of their careers. That Raptors roster is not very impressive.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 10, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) I know he is a rookie but Clausen looks horrible His face is too small. I'm convinced that this is the cause of his problems. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 06:34 PM) Gavin Floyd was almost raced to the majors, he made his debut at 21, and there is plenty of reason to think that the rapid promotions figured into his struggles when he arrived. Cole Hamels made his debut at 22. Victorino made his debut at 22, Howard much later...but both of them had someone quite good blocking them (Aaron "Career year" Rowand and Jim Thome). I suppose I should have specified position players. Pitchers have such a high injury risk that it's typically not worth it to fuss over service time. If they're ready, they're ready. Victorino made his debut at 22 for the San Diego Padres as a Rule 5 guy. He made his Phillie debut at age 24 as a September call-up. Utley was a first-round pick and went to college, but played about one level per year on his way up. In fact, he played almost 240 games in AAA despite having success his first year there. If Howard were on the White Sox (and they played in the NL), I suspect they would have tried him out in left field or traded him rather than let him play so many games in AAA. -

The Phils also bring up their best young players slowly. They are very careful about the arbitration clock and get cheap years out of guys in their prime. -
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Oct 8, 2010 -> 02:58 PM) An expert on the radio said it best, the Twins are built to win the regular season but are not suited for the playoffs while the White Sox were better suited for the playoffs especially this year. The Twins pitchers are good at grinding out regular season games but do not hold up in the playoffs. The way the expert put it, made much more sense to me than how I stated it. What is the difference between a team built for the regular season and a team built for the playoffs? The only difference I can think of is that roster depth doesn't matter as much in the playoffs.

The 3.88 ERA is pretty impressive considering when and where he's pitched (steroid-era AL). He'll make it because of the win total and rings/Yankeeness. I bet that half the voters will forget that he took PEDs.

Do the Dodgers actually have a problem with Kemp or was it just a conflict with Joe Torre? What evidence is there that he's on the trading block? They pretty much played him every day in September, from what I recall. He homered in 5 straight games to end the season.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 09:07 PM) Couple that with the significant financial loses to the community and that you now have a homeless family and you see why you shouldn't have opt-in fire protection or health insurance. Or the risk to adjacent properties.

15/15, although I guessed between two choices on the Great Awakening one. Mennonite here. I wondered whether atheists and agnostics scoring best on the survey was just a correlation of education levels rather than a consequence of religious blinders.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Oct 1, 2010 -> 07:51 PM) I've heard that the Korean military won't be a problem. I don't think it will be. Man he would be PERFECT in RF next year. He's their best player--I don't think they're trading him. Maybe when his contract is up. -
Tony's Pena's peripherals are awful this year. His walks are way up and his Ks are down. I'd like to know what the White Sox think the cause of that is. His low ERA in starts and extended relief is a mirage. Here is his line for games with 3 IP or more. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...265,248,246,sum Sure, that 3.08 ERA looks great. But what other numbers pop out? 30:22 K:BB in 52.2 IP. Ouch. .269 BABIP and 1 runner from an error/no out fielder's choice: he was lucky. GB/FB 1.12 so it's not as if his low K-rate was a result of inducing groundballs. It's valuable to have a guy who can spot-start or throw long relief without s***ting the bed. I'm not saying they should get rid of him. But serious consideration as a regular starter? No thanks. If they don't trade a starter, then I agree that it should be MB/Danks/Floyd/Jackson/Sale until Peavy is ready. You might want someone to push Sale in ST, but it doesn't seem like he needs pushing.

Pavano wasn't throwing at Konerko's head. Sure, it was a high, hard one, but Konerko said he was looking down and away. He kind of fell into it as he was trying to move out of the way.

The reluctance towards a hypothetical Carmelo trade is reminiscent of the hand-wringing over sending Gordon/Deng for Kobe. It's quite silly. Keep in mind that Carmelo is less than a year older than Noah. I think that Noah has just about maxed out his potential. Edit: Not that the Kobe trade was going to happen. I don't know if this one is any more likely.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 22, 2010 -> 06:31 PM) As far as Ozzie, he is an egomaniac as well. But at least he was a far better player than Kenny. What the.

I think Linebrink sucks because Cooper is improperly conditioned. Any chance that the Sox would sign Dallas McPherson to a minor league deal and give him a look at DH during Spring Training? I guess that would suggest that the franchise is in a sorry state, but I'm afraid it may come to something like that.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 20, 2010 -> 09:29 PM) if not mistaken didn't both Floyd and YTome come at the same time from Philly? So that's one deal. Swisher's was a flop. I don't think he traded for them separately but maybe I am wrong You are mistaken. Rowand+Gio->Thome (2005), Freddy->Floyd+Gio (2006).

Jones looks hella rickety out there. I think that Pierre might be the better fielder, despite the noodle arm.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Sep 19, 2010 -> 03:22 PM) Good win. Still not sold though. I think they will get blown out next week. It's hard to interpret what wins mean in the NFL, but wins are golden.
