It wouldn't surprise me much if Konerko was juicing. He looked much more chiseled at the start of the season last year from what I could tell. Or maybe he just got into better shape.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 06:11 AM) Everyone can continue to spin this to suit their own purposes. All I know is that this team is better than it has performed, and that will be proven as more chances present themselves. And this is exactly what many of us argued. Not to overreact. No overcorrections. Patience. Did you guys really think the Tigers are that much better than us? I understand they are 5-1 against us...but they don't particularly frighten me with Don Kelly/Adam Dirks/Danny Worth, etc.... No, the Tigers are a little bit worse than the Sox. But they're a few games up.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 10:39 PM) Gee, it's not like anyone has been saying the Indians were going to have a stretch like this... Because of that, many folks were paying more attention to the Tigers. Sox lost half a game to the Tigers during that same stretch.

Of course he's going to come back to earth, but if he's an .800 OPS guy, then he's extremely valuable.
-
Crede also killed the Tigers.

I thought that he was tentative in the brief time he played in the outfield. Stopped short on some balls and didn't get good reads. By the way, he is currently 7th in Fangraphs' WAR for hitters on the season.

Looked like Peavy's velocity was still down compared to his second game.

Carlos Quentin is tied with Paul Konerko and other players for 128th on the all-time HBP list with 83. Juan Pierre is 93rd and AJP is 87th. Quentin and Konerko are tied with Teixeira for 19th on the active player HBP list. Quentin (28), Rickie Weeks (28), and Prince Fielder (27), are the only players in their twenties to be in the top 25 of the active list.

Did Peavy's velocity drop between his second and third starts? Maybe having him through 110 pitches in his second game back wasn't such a great idea

Huh. It's too bad Dunn made it into the lineup today. edit: That is to say, .230/.348/.456/.804 is his career line v. lefties. You can't possibly want our gazillion dollar hitter to have a platoon position because of a 34 PA sample size.

I didn't see him, but I assume it's the skin bleaching.

2011 NFL Lockout Thread
JorgeFabregas replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I remember that half season that Curry was good with the Bulls. That was actually pretty fun. Wrong thread. -
I was really worried in that first quarter. Bulls were staying close, but had been completely out played (other than on the offensive glass).

Pena and Gray's FIP are very close this year and Gray has the higher xFIP.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 13, 2011 -> 06:30 PM) This is the only drawback I've seen since dropping Comcast. Not sure why the NBA is broadcasting all of their playoffs on cable with no local access, but it does suck, especially with ChannelSurfing shut down. People, people, people. Myp2p.eu. Can I post that? Yes. I just did.

Major league teams generally don't enforce "accountability" by cutting veteran players. That's not really the way it works.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 7, 2011 -> 10:52 PM) He faced a AAA lineup in the biggest pitchers park in the majors, today doesn't count. In that case, does Floyd's game count?

He was worth $10.1 million in 2009 and $15.2 million in 2010 according to Fangraphs WAR.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 6, 2011 -> 07:43 AM) How many callups happen for teams that don't affect pennant races for each one that does. A handful at best, while the large majority wind up takign a few years. Bobby Jenks and Miguel Cabrera come to mind. Joba. I'd guess half of good teams have a call-up playing a significant role at the end of the year. It's just the nature of baseball. Predicting which ones will immediately thrive is hard, though. edit: Bumgarner. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 5, 2011 -> 01:42 AM) I'd try and package CJ, Bogans/Pargo/Lucas, and a pick for Kirk. Bring him back, start him at the 2 and have him be backup point. Under Thibs, he'd be good defensively as always, takes pressure off Rose for ball handling, and can still shoot the 3 (.371 next to Rose starting last year, .399 this year next to Wall and Joe Johnson). Rotation becomes this: Rose(38)/Hinrich(10) Hinrich(15)/Brewer(20)/Korver(13) Deng(38)/Korver(10) Boozer(30)/Gibson(18) Noah(36)/Asik(12) Use the 30th/28th pick on a sharpshooter and call it a day. As effective as Hinrich is at dribbling the ball endlessly, you're still talking about a defensively-oriented player. He's probably not more valuable than the pair of Bogans and Watson, costs more (I'm guessing), and the pick would just kind of seal the deal on the bad trade. Hinrich is certainly a good role player, but that's not a role that the Bulls need to fill.

QUOTE (Brian @ May 4, 2011 -> 09:22 PM) Korver may not be a great defender buy nobody can say he doesn't work hard on D. No, he works hard at all aspects of the game. He's just a bit of a spazz.

The thread means nothing. It is a goofy picture of Uribe made to look like a dopey cartoon character. I think the pic was from a walk-off celebration. Aaron Miles for Uribe was a good trade, though. I am not sure why Miles keeps getting major league gigs, but God bless 'em.
