Official 2010-11 NFL Thread
JorgeFabregas replied to knightni's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Well, that was pretty much how you draw it up. When was the last time the Bears beat a talented team without winning the ST battle? -
He sort of does have a point in that it's not so much insurance as a health care subscription (if coverage is required for those with pre-existing conditions). On the other hand, people don't usually buy property insurance in pools (as many do with health insurance). That's one of the many reasons I'd prefer a single-payer system.

What Farm Hands will be on the Opening Day Roster
JorgeFabregas replied to Quin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I voted Vicideo 1st base/DH and RP - Chris Sale. I would like to see Sale start the year building up his arm at Charlotte, but I kinda doubt they'll do that. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 08:39 PM) Danks is at best a #3 and you've got two #4 types in Floyd and Buehrle. And there's tons of questions surrounding Peavy. You make it sound like Danks is a bad #3. He's a solid AL 3. And Floyd is arguably the better pitcher. But yeah, they have a lot of middle-of-the-rotation guys. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 08:35 PM) A topic someone asked me about today: was the 25-5 stretch the worst thing that could have happened to the Sox organization? It seems that way. -

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 07:52 PM) Seemingly the Sox are moreso. Explain how Floyd could have an ERA of 7 for two months and be unhittable for the next two. Well, the evidence suggests that it was a matter of luck for Floyd. http://www.fangraphs.com/community/index.p...floyd-and-xfip/ Luck and perhaps a dash of Mark Teahen defense in April and May. -
QUOTE (Vance Law @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 04:36 PM) On a case by case basis, Edwin Jackson is still kicking Hudson's butt. And we got him because we needed results now for a pennant race Which cases are you considering? Game by game? Or are you counting Hudson's White Sox starts vs. Jackson's White Sox starts? You don't trade or acquire a player's past--you trade for their future.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 15, 2010 -> 07:46 PM) I wish they would focus on players that are consistent. Not .400 one month and .100 the next. That's the nature of baseball, I'm afraid. -
How honest can a politician be and be re-elected?
JorgeFabregas replied to Texsox's topic in The Filibuster
Hard to be honest and get elected. At least in this country. I don't think they need to break ethics rules, though. -
I always thought the Thome v. lefty complaints were off-base.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 10, 2010 -> 10:10 AM) Until Choo gets his citizenship/army commitment issue out of the way, it really isnt worth pursuing. Is South Korea good enough to win the gold in the olympics? Because thats what has to happen(supposedly) for him to be released from his commitment, unless he decides to defect. And one would thing he would of defected already if thats what he wanted to do. I think it's at some World Championships or Asian games. There's no baseball at London 2012. Edit: and they they did win the gold in 2008.
-
QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 10, 2010 -> 10:07 AM) I've seen lots of Choo love lately... Something to keep in mind... He kills righties... career OPS > .900 But his career average against lefties is very Kotsay-like... .268/.347/.395/.742 And this year his numbers are below his average... .267/.337/.341/.678 Oh, come on. The whole benefit of left-handed hitters is that most of the league's pitchers are right-handed. He's a 5 WAR/year player. He doesn't have huge power, but he consistently gets on base.
-
Oh, ok. I can appreciate that.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 10, 2010 -> 09:29 AM) Chive And yes, I'd love to know what he was saying leading up to that. That's clearly not Shaq. Who is it and/or what am I missing?

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 03:59 PM) Call bulls*** all you want asshole, it's still a doctorate. I really don't think anyone considers it as such other than perhaps a plurality of lawyers. You have every right to be proud of your academic and professional accomplishments. I wouldn't consider a lawyer uneducated and it's a more advanced degree than I have. I consider Tea Party stuff to be almost entirely wrong and pretty silly. I don't know where that fits in to the poll.

Gordon Beckham's hand... (not) actually broken
JorgeFabregas replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I blame the ghost of Harvey Pekar. -
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 01:43 PM) I'm white with a doctorate and agree with a lot of their viewpoints. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you a lawyer? I'm calling bulls*** if you're equating a three-year, vocational degree with a doctorate simply because it's called "Juris Doctor." While it may be technically true, it's hella tacky.

Winning a Scherzer game is very nice.

.042 OBP difference is a big deal. The difference between a good player and a bad player. That's getting on 21 more times in 500 PA. 21 more chances to score runs, 21 fewer outs, etc.
-
Ugh. Is this because of his over-use last game?
-
A road sweep of the Red Sox is very solid (even with their injuries).
-
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5529463 So 4 inches? That's not getting it above his shoulders. There's no reason for me to care if he doesn't follow team policy, so long as management doesn't make a stink.

That's ok. Sometimes I think the avatar compels me to make typos and that sort of thing.

Neither am I. It's just a question of being open and welcoming and what kind of virtual community you want to have. For the most part, this board is for hardcore baseball fans who are young and male. My wife posted on WSI before she got suspended for calling them out on their hypocritical BS. She wouldn't really feel comfortable posting here in the first place, though.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 09:55 AM) It started way back when some people referred to Jon Garland as Judy Garland. They take their message board way too seriously. I like this board much better, but there is a lot more open misogyny here. It's a lot more of a frat-house atmosphere. There's a reason that that board has several women who post there and this board has about 3.
