Half the reason I want Cruz is just to keep him away from the Twins. I'm a big Andrew Vaughn guy, but if we can sign Cruz to a 1 year deal with an option, similar to the EE deal, then I'm totally good with being worried about having too many good hitters in June when Vaughn comes up.

I wonder if the Sox would consider taking on Lorenzo Cain's awful contract to minimize the return for Burnes. Put Cain in LF with Eloy at DH until Vaughn comes up, then put Eloy back in LF and platoon Eaton and Cain in RF. Extremely expensive platoon, but if it means we don't have to give up a blue chip prospect, it might be worth it. That's really their only bad contract that we can absorb.

Jose Quintana is absurdly reliable and consistent. As much as people love that Lynn is a workhorse, Jose Quintana is another guy you can pencil for 32 starts every year. Just because he had 1 mediocre season with the Cubs doesn't mean he sucks. He's only going paid and going to be asked to pitch like a #4 guy for us if we sign him. For a rotation that is currently penciling some mixture of Cease, Kopech, and Lopez or AAA guys for the final 2 rotation spots, reliability is exactly what we need. I will not stand for this Q slander!

The fact that Vaughn will be ready whenever we figure out that Cruz is toast makes me feel better. Last year we had no one to take ABs away from EE until Rick started playing McCann and Grandal every day together.
