  1. QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 18, 2016 -> 03:16 PM) Aren't catchers about the slowest to develop? If he stays behind the plate we might not see him until the next decade. Hawk likes to say that the quickest way to the big leagues is to be a good defensive catcher. So....you're probably right.
  2. So who are going to be our "tough" signs that will take that overslot? I know there are a few guys who said no already, but where are the Matthew Grimes of the draftees that are going to be on the fence? (No idea how I still know the name Matthew Grimes, but I remember he spurred us for college and I think it ended up hurting him) EDIT: Yep. We drafted him in the 4th RD in 2010, he declined, went to GT, got drafted in the 31st RD by the Phillies, declined again, and then got drafted in the 18th RD by the Orioles. He's actually having a solid season in A+ ball, but will also be 25 in a couple of months. Montes De Oca was another recent one I remember. We took him in the 14th RD out of HS in 2014, he declined, went to Missouri, pitched 8 IP in 2015, and only 1/3 of an inning in 2016 after having surgery to fix a nerve issue in his arm.
  3. Spencer Adams has now started 19 games in A+ Winstom-Salem across 2015-2016... 19 GS, 117 IP, 126 H, 3.23 ERA, 86 K, 24 BB, 6.16 K/9, 1.84 BB/9, 3.58 K/BB, 1.28 WHIP Not dominating, but he's performing strongly and he turn 20 less than 2 months ago. I'm wondering if this kid could reach AA by the end of this season as a 20-year-old. That would essentially put him on track for the big leagues as a 22 year old. Obviously thinking far ahead, but it's still some encouraging s*** to look at when you consider he is still going to be behind Fulmer, Burdi, and Hansen.
  4. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 16, 2016 -> 07:24 AM) HUH???? Baseball 101. Robin would not be showcasing him , Hahn would. If he is being played to showcase, that decision is made at the GM level Right, but I'm saying Robin can't afford to lose any more games and potentially his job so the team can try to trick someone in to taking Avi. Robin is apparently fighting for his job.
  5. Shuck isn't good enough to play RF, but he's good enough to play CF. -- Robin Logic PS: Showcasing him be damned, Robin needs to win games, not try to trick people in to thinking Avi is a decent outfielder.
  6. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 11:50 AM) I'd start a download, go to school, come home, and it still wouldn't be done. Or the connection was interrupted at some point during the day. This was when AOL finally went $19.99 a month unlimited. Accidentally ran up a big bill when they charged by the hour for awhile. You guys a little older than me, but I remember playing Counter Strike 1.6 in like....2001 maybe?? and falling asleep at the computer waiting for a new map to download. Or sleeping on the floor next to the chair waiting for it to download.
  7. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 10:03 PM) I've been away a while, and I have a pastor who can answer these questions too, but I prefer groupthink over one person's opinion. There is a long story behind this, but long story short, I have been dating a girl for a while and am about to move in with her again, while there is another girl at work who I feel is a better partner for me. I don't know for sure if this "better partner" has actual feelings for me, but given the relationship we've developed as colleagues, I am fairly certain that she'd let me take her on a date, if nothing else. Oh, and my current girlfriend knows that I have a crush on this girl. As we are about to move in together. We haven't moved a thing yet. I have to ask this girl out for dinner if I think she's better for me, right? Not actually what groupthink means, but I know what you are getting at. I think you definitely need to ask this girl out on a date, but you also can't be doing this behind your current girlfriends back. Just tell your current girlfriend "Look, I need to just get this over with and see what happens. It's not fair to you if we move in together and I am having regrets about never seeing what "xxx" is all about. If we are meant to be, then this date with "xxx" will just give me closure with her and we can move on without be having any regrets or what-ifs". Obviously you can work on the phrasing, but you need to tell your GF and you need to angle it in a way that makes you look like a good guy by 1) Not doing it behind her back and 2) Wanting to give her your all or nothing, not 90% of your interest. Besides, I am assuming this coworker knows you have a GF. You sneaking behind your GF's back to go out with her won't make her think you wouldn't do then same to her.
  8. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 14, 2016 -> 07:21 PM) Let's hope they do. For #26, it shouldn't be a question. You draft a starter, not relief pitcher that Hahn can rush up. Tyler Jay was drafted 6th overall out of Illinois in 2015. He was a reliever all 3 years there. He finished up his draft season as a reliever, but was converted to a starter this season where he has been tearing it up through 10 starts. Has allowed only 2 HR on the year, has a K/9 over 9, and an ERA just over 2. Dave Bush was drafted 55th overall out of Wake Forest. He was a reliever all 4 years at Wake. He was immediately converted to a starter and ended up starting nearly 200 major league games, accruing a career WAR just short of 11. Despite his horrid ERA, he actually had a few pretty solid seasons early on in his career.
  9. What does Reverse Texas mean? I don't get the joke.
  10. QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 03:46 PM) Adam Panayatovich? That's the one.
  11. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 12:26 PM) Don't know how old your TV was, but there was a huge "Capacitor plague" that affected electronics manufactured during 99-03. Bad capacitors would have burned out by now, but manufacturing defects can still cause problems here and there. I would guess my Vizio is like a 2007? It's a 1080 HDTV. Actually got it for a reasonable price of like $400 I think. 32"
  12. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 10:59 AM) Good. Complacency admits incompetence to the fanbase. It makes me really unsure about what to root for in this series. The Sox to win, or to finally cut ties with Robin? Ugh, can't decide.
  13. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 12:18 PM) The board had a large hole melted into it. I brought it into the electronics shop at my work for those guys to take a look at it, they're the ones who told me I was lucky it didn't catch fire. Oh yikes. When my Vizio plasma had trouble staying on, my dad and I took it apart and replaced about 4 or 5 bulging capacitors. Cost about $20, almost all of which was the soldering gun, and the TV has been working perfectly about 4 or 5 years later.
  14. One of my buddies cousins has been named Great Fall's opening day starter. We were trying to go down to AZ in ST to watch him play. He's got a crazy long polish name that I can never remember.
  15. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 13, 2016 -> 09:00 AM) I've got a Samsung plasma that melted a capacitor on the board about a year ago. I new board was about $40 and it was an easy replacement, but I'm lucky that thing didn't start a fire. Why didn't you just replace the capacitor?
  16. QUOTE (daggins @ Jun 12, 2016 -> 03:06 PM) Whoops! Burdi gave up a Papa Slam in the 9th for a UCSB walkoff. He is now eligible to sign. Good. Wanted Burdi's team out so he can sign, and get in the bullpen for us. I would like to see Collins' team win it all so I can continue to watch him drop bombs since he won't be up with us this season anyway.
  17. Man, I really hope J.J. Schwarz slides to us!
  18. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 12, 2016 -> 01:44 PM) To be fair, he could come up, have a HoF career over 20 years with the Sox and he would still be our future groundskeeper. When you're right, you're right.
  19. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jun 11, 2016 -> 02:16 AM) Shame on your dick. Well, bladder... But, yah. Don't worry, I already beat the hell out of it tonight.  I couldn't resist that joke.
  20. I was at the game today. Always fun when we hit a bunch of dingers. Got to see Anderson's debut and be there for his 1st ML hit (although I was taking a piss when it happened).
  21. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jun 11, 2016 -> 01:54 AM) That was my concern with Collins when I started looking at his swing. The hands. Why not keep them stationary and just go straight to the ball. Probably because it hasn't not-worked yet. If he's hitting .220 in AA by the end of this season, then maybe he changes his hands.
  22. White Sox select with their 7th RD pick.... LHP Bernardo Flores, USC
  23. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 03:18 PM) Ok, I'm going to take a shower and then get ready to go to the Sox game tonight. Someone will have to take over duties posting draftees and twitter accounts for me. Just kidding. I'll do one more.
