Wait a second. How the f*** was that last run earned? How the f*** do they not give an error to Eaton on that? If he doesn't kick the ball away, there is not a chance a hell he scores. s***, he kicked the ball and he STILL got the ball to the plate before the runner. That's brutal to put that run on Sale on a bloop to the OF with a runner on 1st.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 08:07 PM) 2.12... there goes any chance at the Cy Yep, f*** it, shut him down now, Felix is the unanimous winner now. All Sale had going for him was a sparkling ERA.

So, can we get a Big Brother thread or something? I assume that's the show that's been discussed for the last 10 pages or so.

With last night's win.... The Sox still have the 9th pick, are 10.5 GB of the #1 pick, are 5 GB of the #5 pick, and are only 1.5 games ahead of the Reds/Padres for a protected pick. -
2nd episode of Boardwalk was much better than the snoozer premiere. Sucks they jumped 7 years though and skipped events like Rothstein's assassination and St. Valentine's Day Massacre. As well as some storylines that just disappeared as a result.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 17, 2014 -> 11:01 AM) No root needed. You have to go to developer settings for your phone and turn on the ability to "Uninstall unknown apps/apps not from play store". Then from your phone, google showbox and you should find it. They have every tv show and movie known to man. If you want to cast it to your ChromeCast(which I do), just use Avia or Allcast (both legal apps on playstore). Go into showbox, select your movie, uncheck use internal player, click the quality, and you'll get a popup asking what movie player you want to use. Choose Allcast or Avia. From there, casting will be done to your chromecast of choice. I find I'm also able to use my PS3 and WDTV without modifying either one. Kinda weird. It sounds a lot harder than it actually is. Trust me, takes about 5 minutes to setup and less than 30 seconds to startup a movie. Sorry, I should have responded earlier. I got it all figured out. I'm using BubbleUPNP, and this s*** is awesome. I'm dont remember if it was you or someone else who originally mentioned Showbox, but this is wonderful. I've already got my dad, brother, and my friends up and running with it. Haha. This is especially useless now that our SHO subscription ran out. I don't have to watch the shows on my laptop anymore.

In fact, here is something pretty interesting with Wilkins in his very very very small sample size. His plate discipline rates match up very closely with one of the best hitters in baseball this year...Jose Abreu. % of pitches OUTSIDE of the zone that a hitter has swung at Wilkins - 35.1% Abreu - 41.2% % of pitches INSIDE the zone that a hitter has swung at Wilkins - 76.5% Abreu - 73.4% The big difference between the two players is really when it comes to actually making CONTACT with those pitches. Contact % of pitches OUTSIDE of the zone that a hitter has swung at Wilkins - 45% Abreu - 55.2% Contact % of pitches INSIDE of the zone that a hitter has swung at Wilkins - 76.9% Abreu - 87.8% This isn't really to prove anything other than Wilkins and Abreu have similar plate disciplines, Abreu just happens to have far superior contact skills. Look at a guy like Josh Phegley, and he swings at nearly 78% of the pitches he gets outside of the zone, and only swings at 55% of the pitches that are thrown inside the strike zone. He has no idea where the pitches are in relation to the zone, he just happens to make more contact than Wilkins.

Jeesh, a lot of people sure hate Andy Wilkins now. He's had like what, 30 PA in the majors? The one good thing I've noticed from him is that I have yet to see him swing wildly at a pitch way out of the zone. I've seen Phegley do that a lot already. I'm sure there is a statistic tracking this, but I would bet almost half of Wilkins strikeouts have been looking. He takes a ton of close pitches, and they never seem to go his way. Yes, he swings and misses a lot, but I'm not going to sit here and s*** on him this hard after like 30 PA when he had the kind of season he did in AAA. He gets a little longer leash from me.

QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 08:35 PM) Regardless of his performance tonight, how is three starts enough to determine if anyone is a decent pitcher? *start* And it was a comment in regards to last week when people were so high on Bassitt after he dominated the A's. I told them temper their excitement until he faces some real teams like KC and Detroit, not the Oakland A's who can't hit out of a paper bag right now.

Ok, on Utopia tonight, I think Josh is the only smart one who realizes how EASY it's going to be to make money once people who live in that area realize they can be on a TV show, or at LEAST streamed online for tens of thousands or whatever people to watch. s***, if I lived in the area where they show is, I would find any excuse to be on the show as well. Like Josh said, that ONE guy who showed up for Yoga is going to put it on social media and people are going to flock.

Oh man, the trade in price on Watchdogs PLUMMITED over the past week. It was listed at $36 a week ago on Gamestop. Now it's like $17 or $18. Yikes. Guess I'll hold on to this or try to sell it to a friend for like $25.

In the replace, you can see Escobar tagged Viciedo on the wrist before he retagged him on the chest. He was out.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 06:53 PM) Most of it was pretty lame, though the part about Belli's dress style was pretty funny. Yeah, that was a terrible interview. And I am like 95% sure that was not John Danks catching those pitches from Joakim Noah. Honestly, it looked like Lance Broadway, but I am not sure who it actually was.
-
Now we can start to see if Bassitt is actually a decent pitcher, or if his last start was a product of a terrible A's offense.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 03:46 PM) I just missed Sale on Intentional Talk.....anybody got a video on it? I missed it too, but they usually put at least a portion of the interview online either later today or tomorrow.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 11:39 AM) And been nearly as good. It would be one thing if Sale was sub 2.00 ERA and the next closest guy was 75 points away with not so great periphs, however, King Felix has been pretty damn good too. Right, which is why everyone is ignoring the fact that Kershaw and Sale missed the EXACT same amount of time with an injury. Kershaw is so far ahead of anyone in the NL that no one cares to remember he has pitched less innings than everyone else. Sale isn't that far ahead of Felix to where IP doesn't matter. This is why I think the only chance Sale has is to go 8 IP+ each of his next starts, giving up 1 ER or less each time, and Felix getting hit around and seeing his ERA jump above 2.40. Then Sale will have a good chance if he does something like.... 24 IP, 3 ER over those last 3 starts, giving him 187 IP and a 1.88 ERA. And Felix comes out with something like.... 17 IP, 12 ER over those last 3 starts, giving him 236 IP and a 2.44 ERA That half a run+ on ERA may make up the difference in his IP, but even then it would probably be a close race.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Sep 15, 2014 -> 11:46 PM) Wait a minute, now WAR measures who the best hitters are too? I thought oWAR tries to tell us who the most valuable offensive players are, so I'm confused because I thought baserunning (which has nothing to do with hitting) was included in oWAR cLculations. You want to know who the best hitters are? Look at BA- it will tell you the % of ABs that result in hits. Then look at SLG%- it will tell you whether a guy hurts baseballs or not. A top mix of those two stats will always be your best players, the stars, the fan favorites, the MVPs, the guys batting #3 or #4 I don't need WAR to tell me Jose Abreu is a beast but it does help me realize Andrelton Simmons had a better year last year than a quick glance at regular stats would tell me. By the way I like WAR, I just don't see much use for it generally. I don't think the MVP voters do either. So what you're saying is, defense and baserunning don't matter whatsoever. I'm not even going to touch this. You don't understand WAR, and you don't like it. That's your choice I guess.

With tonight's epic loss, the Sox gained a game on.... Cubs, Astros, Dbacks, Padres. Sox still have the 9th pick, are now 10.5 GB of the #1 pick, are 5 GB of the #5 pick, and 2.5 games ahead of the Reds for a protected pick. Only 1.5 games separate the 6th-9th picks. Had we lost that double header vs. the Twins on Saturday, we'd have the 6th pick and be only 4.5 GB of the #4 pick. -
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 15, 2014 -> 10:26 PM) My original post was referring to baserunning being weighted in the offensive WAR stat, not the AVG/HR/RBI/OBP stats individually. But then once I told you that baserunning was factored in, you said this.... QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 15, 2014 -> 09:47 PM) Either way, I still think that the massive HR/RBI/AVG difference should be more heavily weighted I'm just saying they are weighted based on people much smarter than you or I using crazy amounts of data and equations. While defensive WAR is a flukey system, according to the people who calculate it, they are pretty damn confident in their offensive WAR calculations

Wow, these Royals are exciting. If this game mattered, I would be punching a fist through my TV, but that 9th only made me laugh and smile.

Is Terrance Gore like 5'5"?? EDIT: He's 5'7", man.
-
OMG, that was awesome. This could turn out to be a fantastic night, draft pick wise.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 15, 2014 -> 10:23 PM) Because I feel like those stats, especially AVG, are more indicative of how good of a hitter is. OBP as well. Ok, but these are scientifically calculated based on which are more indicative of a good hitter.
-
Twins tied up the game in the 8th vs. the Tigers.....and then Torii Hunter and Miggy went back-to-back to lead off the 9th. Sigh.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 15, 2014 -> 09:19 PM) That's a joke. A .324 BA with 35/102 defeats .310 BA with 23/75 any day. Okay, but you are also ignoring the face that Cutch strikes outs less, and walks a lot more. His OBP is .399. Oh yeah, and he has 17 SB too. Baserunning is a factor in Offensive WAR as well.
