Can't believe it's almost been a year since there was a comment in this thread. In that year, unfortunately my baby girl passed away on May 1st. It was really quite unexpected, as we didn't even have her put down, she just died while my mom was in the shower and I was sleeping. She was pretty healthy, just the usual lack of strength and tiredness that comes with being almost 13 years old. She did have diarrhea in the house a couple times that week, but we think it's just because she was given old venison and it made her sick. So waking up to your mom in tears screaming "Casey's dead!" was really hard. I took it very hard. I guess it was a good thing I was going to Ball State that weekend because I decided to leave a day early with one of my old roommates and just get filthy drunk in her honor. Just like our last golden retriever, we got her cremated and now have her ashes in a tin. My brother planted 2 new trees at our lake house in their honor and sprinkled some of their ashes in each tree. As you can tell, our family loves our dogs.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Sep 4, 2014 -> 02:40 PM) But he would also wave at breaking balls low and away. Sometimes it would look so bad, it seemed like he had made up his mind to swing before the pitch was thrown. It's obviously much less a problem now. Yeah, I know, I am saying I think his approach has changed to cover the low and away breaking pitches, and because of his change in approach, he is no longer trying to crush every pitch, but just trying to fight those away pitches in to RF. A much better result for the pitchers, too.

I send nudes on the regular through snapchat. Who cares? I'm not dumb enough to put my face in it, and I have no tattoos. Whose gunna know whose dick it is? I've got quite the collection of nude girls from Tinder because of this. I'm satisfied.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Sep 4, 2014 -> 11:58 AM) You mean where he was striking out once a game earlier in the year? Pitchers are trying to bury him down and away, and he's just poking them to RF. Earlier in the year they were trying to bust him in, and he was turning on them for HR. I am just guessing here, but I would think that has something to do with his power outage as well. I think he took those inside fastballs out of the park, and is now taking those low and outside breaking pitches off the bat in to RF.

With the White Sox loss tonight, the Sox gain a game on.... Arizona, Colorado, Minnesota, Houston, and Cubs. Sox move up to the 8th pick, are 10 GB of the #1 pick, are 2.5 GB of the #5 pick, and 3 games ahead of the Reds for a protected pick. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 10:24 PM) Don't tell me that! IGN said it was great, but I thought otherwise. Oh well, I still trust it to rebound.

Season premiere of The League tonight was terrible.

Pulling for Arizona to win. Tonight's loss will allow us to gain on like 3 teams. -

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 03:29 PM) When? No idea, he tweeted a picture of the cover art about a week ago. It says "presented by Gangsta Grillz", so I am guessing that means it will be less Because The Internet, and more Royalty.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 07:48 AM) If you're going to do this...can you also tell how far they are ahead of the 12th pick/lose their draft pick if they sign a FA slot? Sure. The Sox are 3.5 games ahead of the Reds for #12. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 3, 2014 -> 12:38 AM) an early look at prospects. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/never-...p;vkey=news_mlb Would prefer a more up to date look now that all those "key events" listed have passed.

I absolutely want them to wait until next year's Super Two status to pass. I've been wanting that all along, however, if there plan was not to call him up in September, then I don't like the aggressive promotions. Should have left him in W-S the entire year with a start in AA next year.

2014 Fantasy Football Thread
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to LittleHurt05's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Did my first and only draft this year. No prep or research, I'm far too lazy. Had the 7th pick, 10 team league. 7 Calvin Johnson, Det WR 14 Dez Bryant, Dal WR 27 Zac Stacy, StL RB 34 Frank Gore, SF RB 47 Vernon Davis, SF TE 54 Terrance Williams, Dal WR 67 Torrey Smith, Bal WR 74 Ray Rice, Bal RB 87 Tony Romo, Dal QB 94 Wes Welker, Den WR 107 Andy Dalton, Cin QB 114 Kyle Rudolph, Min TE 127 Bengals D/ST D/ST 134 Steven Hauschka, Sea K 147 Benny Cunningham, StL RB 154 Kenbrell Thompkins, NE WR Terrance Williams and Cunningham were mistakes. But I'm currently offering a trade of either Welker, Thompkins, or Terrance Williams for any of LeVeon Bell, Alfred Morris, or Joique Bell. If he says no, I'll up the offer to Torrey Smith for any of those 3 RBs. Basically, I need an upgrade at RB. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 03:07 PM) Interesting points. Our Twitter seems to be doing very well, glad you like it. As for the recaps, if you plan to look at each box score, you can still get something out of the recaps. We have links to all the boxes from there anyway, but we also sometimes put information on the games there that isn't in the box. If there was an injury or ejection, or some interesting info about the game that the box wouldn't reflect, we try to put it in there. So the recap has the box links, and more. Just FYI. That's a good point, I did find myself typically reading the recap if there was an injury or ejection like you mention.
-
I honestly read the recaps no more then 3 or 4 times all season. That's not because they weren't informative, but rather because I went through every box score by myself anyway. Someone who doesn't have the time or patience to do so would get more use out of it. But what I DID check quite often was the FutureSox twitter account to see how some guys did each day. I would say damn near every day I would see a tweet, read it, and click the profile to see the other tweets. THEN I would go check the boxscores. The twitter account has been very helpful.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 2, 2014 -> 11:55 AM) Us? Not me I wanted three or four wins. Two wasn't enough in the Cell This thread is for people who are thinking big picture. That's the "us". I'm surprised you came back to read this thread that you've said it offends you. -

I was a little busy the past couple days, but the Sox series vs. Detroit kind of screwed us a little. Sox now fell back to the #9 pick. Back to 9 GB of the #1 pick, and 4 GB of the #5 pick. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 03:12 AM) Garko was more of a doubles hitter. Cliff Floyd might be a better comparison. Of course, it's doubtful that he ever reaches that ceiling, but Ryan Garko's about the last name I would associate with Barnum...he's not even LH'ed. It was just a play on the name Ryan, don't take this away from me!

QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 1, 2014 -> 03:52 PM) I'd give Davidson another year at Charlotte. Only 24 next year. I'd give Davidson all the years he wants in Charlotte. Whose spot is he blocking?
-
Oh snap, Masters of Sex pulling out some weird twists.
-
I remember when Keon Barnum's ceiling was Ryan Howard. Now it's more like Ryan Garko. And holy s***, no idea how I pulled that name out. What a name drop to randomly come to my mind.

QUOTE (BaconOnAStick @ Aug 31, 2014 -> 02:06 AM) Then it's very problematic as a statistic. The baseline right now for a premier player is 5 WAR. Anything within 20% of that in either direction and you cannot say for certain the statistic is proving anything between the two players? If a dude is slugging 20% more than the other guy, or getting on base 20% more I can definitively say "hey, this dudes better at getting on base than the other dude" and there's no argument. That's because on-base percentage is exactly that, getting on base. Just you can definitely say "This pitcher won more games than this other pitcher" doesn't suddenly make Wins a good statistic for pitchers. Anytime you have a formula predicated on assigned values, there is going to be some margin of error.
