  1. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 05:33 PM) Guess I should have noted that I was talking about the 2nd round. Of course I didn't want Burdi or Lindgren at #3, nor do I want one in the 1st round next year....Reed was drafted in the 3rd so it wouldn't be uncharacteristic of the Sox to grab one in the first few rounds. 3rd RD is probably the earliest I would go, but I'd still always prefer to draft a starting pitcher and let him fail, and then go to the pen.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 05:50 PM) It will fail miserably, just like his other business ventures, I am sure. ......well then.
  3. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 05:41 PM) Are there any nasty closers in this years draft? I know you don't draft for need, and some are against drafting RP early, but I was kinda hoping the Sox took Jacob Lindgren (Specifically him because he's a LHP) or Nick Burdi last year.... I know they don't really get the hype but sans maybe Ben Brewster, I can't think of a single RP to be "excited" about. There's been talk that Lindgren might get called up this year after posting a ridiculous 48/10 K/BB rate in 24 innings across 4 levels. (he went in the 2nd, 11 picks after Adams) I think drafting FOR a reliever is about the absolute worst move you can make with your first round pick, probably even your first couple picks.
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 04:58 PM) I am absolutely taken aback by the graphics of the new Madden - and the new gameplay. They finally made an actual leap. ..... QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 09:15 AM) Eh, if you consider an entirely new physics engine, completely revamped running style and moves, brand-new read-option packages, and online modes out the yin yang nothing (among many other tweaks), then yeah, I guess nothing changed this year! Compare the changes that go into Madden, there's a f***ton this year, by the way, to the changes in either of the games you mention above, and you'll find them to likely be more. I mean, my God, MLB the Show? It's the same f***ing game every year.
  5. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 01:03 PM) Yet last year was a letdown (true) .... QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 12:23 PM) In other news, Madden came out yesterday. Trestman looks legit, and the gameplay and presentation is a true blast. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 01:55 PM) Madden 25 is a pretty great football simulation. I need to spend a lot more time with it before I sign off on telling you to spend your last $60 on it instead of on cocaine. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 30, 2013 -> 05:15 PM) I adore this rendition of Madden. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 5, 2013 -> 07:59 AM) The new Madden gets better with each game - and we haven't even gotten to the point where I can start my delicious offline franchise with game 1 rosters. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 08:36 AM) I'm debating NHL, but might as well wait because Madden owns my soul right now anyway.
  6. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 01:57 PM) People might have argued Nola going in, which gets us right back to the polished vs. Low ceiling discussion. Speaking of Nola, he pretty much dominated High-A ball in 31 IP this year, but then they bumped him up to AA and he hasn't done so hot. I wouldn't say he's done bad at all, but he's not dominating. Then again, it's only been 19 IP, but just someone who I figured we should keep an eye on since it seemed if Rodon and Aiken were off the board by the #3 pick, we were thinking Nola.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 12:58 PM) I know who 1 of those guys is. Cistulli is a quirky, funny linguist of sorts who hosts these podcasts. His thing is always picking out fringy prospects to love in hopes they will become stars and he can be the guy who believed in them all along. I guess you could say he's a hipster prospect guy. Anyway, one of these such fringy prospects he loves is Marcus Semien, almost exclusively for his expert plate discipline. In fact, here is a feature he does on these types of guys. Semien has been included in the past, I'm almost certain. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-fringe-...e-prospects-39/
  8. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 29, 2014 -> 09:31 AM) The PTBNL can't be conditional on performance. It can be conditional on number of games or number of plate appearances, but I never saw anything in this deal that indicated that was the case. I think he just meant the better Beckham plays, the more games he will see. So if there is any bearing on appearance, he could maximize our return.
  9. Listened to a Fangraphs Audio podcast, and Carson Cistulli brought up Marcus Semien as being "one of his guys", and Dave Cameron immediately shot him down saying he's terrible. Just thought I'd leave that here.
  10. NHL 15 looks good, and the animations and presentation are improved. But unless it's just because it's a demo, this game is STILL very choppy and stutters. I mean, I'm not sure even one damn time the NBC logo animation came over the screen in real time. Every time it stuttered across or lagged. Actual gameplay didn't really lag, but cut scenes stuttered and the menu isn't fast either. This has been an issue for years now. If that lag isn't fixed, I honestly wouldn't even get this game. It's very distracting and worse than previous years disc versions.
  11. Sox gained a game on.... Minnesota and Houston. Sox still sit with the #9 pick. 8 GB of the #1 pick, and 4 GB of the #5 pick.
  12. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 07:16 PM) Feed unbearable for anyone else? Yes. It's stuttering like every 2-3 seconds. Turning this off after Abreu's AB. Giving me a headache.
  13. Holy s*** I didn't realize that NHL 15 comes out in less than 2 weeks. And apparently the demo is out now. I'll be playing that tomorrow afternoon or tonight.
  14. http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?c...mp;ymd=20140828 AAA - Off AA - Bucciferro (2-2, 5.59) High-A - Dykstra (3-3, 5.10) Low-A - TBD Rookie - Peralta, Y (0-0, -.--) AZL - Adams A very good source tells me Adams will be pitching tonight. Did not specify the team, but since GF's starter is already listed, I am guessing it's the AZL team unless they bumped him up to Kanny.
  15. Yesterday's win cost us a spot in the draft. We have now slid down to 9th. 8 GB of the #1 pick, and 5 GB of the #5 pick.
  16. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 12:24 PM) Well maybe he was on the "Cubs nuts" because they have awesome offensive prospects. If the White Sox or another team had those guys, I'm sure he would have been on their "nuts" too. As someone who listened to a ton of Fringe Average Podcasts (RIP), Parks really WAS all over the Cubs nuts. He would bring them up constantly, while Mike Ferrin would be discussing other things. I mean, the Twins have a loaded farm system too and he never spoke of them, other than Buxton. Really sad to not have Parks as a prospects resource anymore. He was really funny and I enjoyed hearing him talk prospects. But as soon as I heard he was going to work for the Cubs, I stared laughing because that was such a perfect fit for him.
  17. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 10:03 AM) 10% walk rate is SUPER promising. We are watching this guy learn and it's exciting. It's also a result of managers being more careful and pitching around him too.
  18. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 09:25 AM) This could be a bad sign for Micah. Kiss of death? The last prospect that Hawk was obsessed with was C.J. Retherford. He hit .201 in AAA before playing Independent ball the following year.
  19. My initial reaction says Cubs, but then when you realize that Sale and Abreu are already MLB superstars, and Quintana is quietly very good, it kind of makes me think a bit more. Obviously the Cubs top prospects are infinitely better than the Sox top prospects (minus Rodon), but you have to assume at least half of them will flame out to nothing. In conclusion, I really have no idea. If everyone from both sides reach their potential, it's the Cubs hands down, but the Sox already have a few guys currently achieving their potential, so it's almost not even a fair comparison.
  20. Sidenote: Remember when people were worried about Abreu in the HR derby, thinking it would mess up his HR stroke? He's hit, what, like 4 HR since the All-Star break? Second sidenote: Abreu is 6 HR shy of setting the all-time non-roided-out rookie record for HR. He's 49 RBI short though of Ted Williams rookie record of 149 though. And no one may EVER surpass Trout's rookie record for WAR at 10.1. Abreu isn't even at HALF of that yet.
  21. Just to let you know how unlikely it is... Let's assume Abreu has 100 more AB the rest of the season. He would have to hit .400 the rest of the way to bring his average up to .329, which would still not give him the batting title. Basically you need Abreu to hit nearly .400 from here on out, and Altuve to slow down, while also not seeing V-Mart, Cano, or Beltre finish strong. I think he's got a real good shot to lead the majors in HR and RBI, assuming he starts hitting dingers at a regular pace again, and as long as he finishes above .300, I'll be extremely happy.
  22. New Childish Gambino mixtape coming soon.
  23. I'm looking forward to a Madden game worth getting again. After owning every game for over a decade, I haven't purchased one in 5 years.
