Fangraphs' Carson Cistulli to Blue Jays FO
Among his historic Fringe Five lists..... Mookie Betts, Jose Ramirez, Danny Salazar, Maikel Franco, Marcus Semien, Austin Barnes, and Wilmer Flores. Two legit MVP candidates right there, and a few other all-star types. Good news for us Sox fans is that I believe Danny Mendick has made a few appearances.

Is that really what got him a job, his Fringe Five list? I do remember Mookie Betts being a big Cistulli guy when no one else was on Betts.

2019 MLB Draft Picks (Running Thread)
Almost all of them do. I kind of wish these comp picks were based on like a "Last 5 years attendance". Because while teams can certainly tank for draft picks, they aren't going to want to sabotage attendance for draft picks, as that immediately affects their bottom line.

Frank Thomas has a message for ESPN
To be "fair" that awful tweet also left our Barry Bonds and Albert Pujols and a handful of other guys. The comments on that tweet are FULL of omissions. Really just an awful tweet for someone who claims to be a researcher.

Would take more than Cease. At least 1 or 2 other guys.

Abreu wants to stay long term
I'm ok with adding TWO more years to Abreu, but not 3. 2 yrs/$32M extension. So he will be making $16M each of his last 3 years with the Sox. Then by that time one Collins, Sheets, Burger should all be more than ready to take the position full time.

I was initially ready to roast this for thinking the Braves would give up anything of value for Avi, but then I realized that Teheran has only been a 1.1 and a 0.7 fWAR over the last 2 seasons, while making $11M and $12M over his final 2 years in 2019 and 2020. He's had a few seasons of REALLY GOOD control numbers, and then some awful ones recently. I guess this would be a decent chance for the Sox to try to salvage his arm and possibly flip him in July, especially if Cease or Dunning are ready, or even next winter. The monetary cost shouldn't be much of anything, especially if we can get the Braves to even toss in $3M to cover the difference from Avi to Teheran. This really would be a decent chance for the Braves to make a salary dump. Hell, they could even non-tender Avi if they really wanted to just save money and use that $11M on someone like Carlos Gonzalez until Pache is ready to be promoted to the OF.

My point wasn't that I didn't believe you may have proposed a Sox/Cubs trade, my point is that the idea of the Sox and Cubs ever making a blockbuster move was OVERWHELMINGLY considered off-limits or unrealistic. And yet, it happened. So just because a lot of people are ready to say a prospect-for-prospect trade rarely happens, ALSO does not mean it's not a possibility or something that Rick Hahn should explore.

If we were actually a playoff team, that would probably be a pretty realistic trade. Obviously 2 years of Trout doesn't fit the time frame though.

Mariners front office accused of racism
Fired employee is disgruntled? No friggin' way. Regardless of whether she is telling the truth or not, waiting until she loses her job is going to be seen with a ton of skepticism as well as some who think shes awfully cowardly to see such injustices and not do a damn thing about it until she has nothing to lose.

Damn ya, really got me there. I shouldn't have capitalized "exactly". Totally roasted. Anyway, if that's true that you said it was very possible that the Sox and Cubs would make a blockbuster, despite the overwhelming narrative being that they would never, then I guess I just need to wait for you to shift your opinion on a prospect for prospect trade so it can become a feasible course of action for Rick Hahn.

Actually, I believe he has said EXACTLY that, maybe save for the "multiple" part of the quote. But yes, I do recall a quote from him posted on this very site speaking about trading prospects for prospects to better balance out needs. The Sox and Cubs will also never make a big trade! Remember that trope that tried to limit Hahn's trading options?

Somehow you're treating all 4 prospects as equal, and ignoring that Hansen and Burger/Gonzalez/Rutherford/Walker all have HUGE bust likelihoods, while Senzel is just about the surest prospect in baseball to hit, behind Vlad Jr. Even a lot of people think Cease is destined for a bullpen job or an injury riddled future. But sure, ignore quality and take quantity.

And he will only be making $535K to do so. That's the difference.

In July, Sox had deal in place to send A. Garcia to Houston for Martes
They were willing to pay for the help in the 2018 season. That part of their value in the trade is now gone.

Rams barely escaped the Seahawks, yikes. I'm starting to get pretty worried about this defense.

I would argue upgrading prospects isn't "not hanging on" to them.

Is it just a running joke now to pretend that the Rockies are trying to give Jon Gray away for nothing? Is this just being meme'd to death by Soxtalk?

White Sox Bryce Harper FA pitch spoiler?
The pick that the Nats receive and the signing team gives up are not the same.

The Reds. I had a Senzel trade in my Offseason Plan, and it was Cease, Burger, and Hansen. Although as someone pointed out, Burger doesn't make a ton of sense for the Reds, because they would still have India blocking Burger. So swap out Burger for Gonzalez, or Rutherford, or Adolfo, or Walker. Either way, I can't see the Reds giving up a top 5 hitting prospect in Senzel without getting a blue chip pitching prospect like Kopech or Cease in return.

White Sox Bryce Harper FA pitch spoiler?
You sure? I found these rules.... Signing team receives revenue sharing money: Forfeits their third highest draft pick. Signing team paid luxury tax during most recent season: Forfeits second and fifth highest draft picks, plus $1M in international bonus money. All other teams: Forfeit second highest draft pick plus $500,000 in international bonus money. Based on that, the Sox would give up their 2nd highest draft pick, plus $500K in INT'L money.

2018 Travel Thread
Speaking of my Cali trip....went to Paramount Ranch to see where they shoot Westworld, and dozens of other shows/movies in the 91 years that the old West town has existed.....and then it burns down less than a week later. Go on a Malibu Wine Safari on Saddle Rock to see the hills and drink wine and feed exotic animals.....and it too burns down. It's weird that I have all these pictures on my phone on places that don't even exist anymore less than a week later.

Which is #43 overall right now I believe. Last year that was P Griffin Roberts.
