QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 05:08 PM) If the Phillies threw in a few million, sure. That said, I'd rather see Matsui as a DH. Hell, I'd rather Viciedo at DH than Ibanez OR Matsui.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 05:06 PM) For $11.5 million? I don't think anyone would take Ibanez at $11.5M.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 04:59 PM) He sucks on defense, and he's hitting in an amazing lineup in a great hitter's park. I want absolutely nothing to do with Ibanez. Are you describing Ibanez, or Quentin? Just saying, as bas as Ibanez may be, Quentin has actually been WORSE the past couple years.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 04:40 PM) Oh hell no! Getting way older while giving up someone who actually has some trade value? I don't want Ibanez, but at least he put up a 1.8 WAR, while Quentin sits there with a 0.0 WAR.

Jason Churchill now going in on this rumor too. Wonders is the Phillies would try and get rid of Ibanez. Maybe Ibanez + Cash for Quentin and someone else.

KW expects Peavy to begin season on DL

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 12:54 PM) I don't see how one extra season of Sale in the bullpen at age 22 would sacrifice his entire career? You have the guy under your control for a good amount of time, he doesn't have to start right now. If he pitches 200 innings this year, will that help his career? I don't want him to be a reliever his entire career, but the move does not need to be made today. The chances are a LOT higher that he will be a reliever the rest of his career since he will probably succeed as a reliever. I mean, how many successful relievers turn back into starters? Usually they just turn back into starters after they show they can't be a good relief pitchers. I feel Sale will be a good reliever and be stuck in that role before he ever gets the chance to become a good starter first, and have a long enough leash that they aren't quick to say "Ok, not working, back to the 'pen for you". -
White Sox sign 3B Dallas McPherson
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to chetkincaid's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Meant to say "minor league deal", not "AAA deal". Whoops. Jerry Cransik reports via. Twitter. "White Sox have signed 3B Dallas McPherson to minor league deal. He hit 22 HRs in 84 games w/Oakland in Triple A last year" -
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 02:33 PM) I think the Sox are in a bidding war for Dunn as we speak. Kenny goes crazy after guys he wants and still remembers DET stealing Miguel Cabrera. I agree about Kenny going after Dunn hard right now. That report about Detroit going after Dunn hard right now is probably making Kenny antsy.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 12:47 PM) Ya, but you'd have 10M more to play with to address holes. $10? More like around $7.6M, but let's not turn this thread into another epic Hudson/Jackson debate. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 12:44 PM) You'd prefer Sale starting & the Sox ace on the DL, than the ace in the rotation and Sale in the pen??? Yeah. Sacrificing 1 month of an ace pitcher for the career of a potential future ace. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 12:40 PM) I don't think anyone can pinpoint his exact recovery date right now. However, if it better to be conservative and to expect there to be delays. It wouldn't take too many delays before you are talking about a late May comeback. Right now the Sox are smart to not expect/count on Peavy. Unfortunately that really hurts when you don't have any guys you can look to in the farm to help you until than. In retrospect it would be really nice to have Huddy. Would still be in the same spot because Huddy would just replace EJax, so either way, you have 4 starters and then Chris Sale/Tony Pena -

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 12:36 PM) Chris Sale, start stretching out your arm. Good. Never thought I would happy to see a starter out longer with an injury, but if it means not wasting Sale in the 'pen, then I am down for it. -
I probably wouldn't do it. Like Chisoxfan said, he has been on the decline during his "peak" years in baseball players career. I'd rather keep Edwin since he has shown us he can be lethal and is still young, while Granderson is surely on the decline.

QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 05:21 AM) MLB Network Prime 9 had the '05 Sox as the 6th best starting pitching staff ever. I'll take it! Too bad they didn't do post-season staffs. Then I bet we are at least top 3. -

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 11:43 AM) Reynolds on the block as well for Arizona. Been on it for a while now. -
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 01:23 AM) I don't believe the decision to offer arbitration or not is as clear-cut as some of you think. It certainly isn't a slam dunk like with Konerko and Putz, but it's entirely reasonable. Sox Machine just put up a very nice piece on the topic. http://soxmachine.com/2010/11/17/buck-deal...skis-prospects/ very good piece. I agree the Sox should offer AJ the arb after reading that article. And if AJ accepts, then what is stopping Kenny from trading AJ somewhere since $6M isn't a huge commitment to a team, and as long as we get a player or two back, even if they are crappy, we can just consider them our draft picks that we would have done if AJ rejected arb. Either way, if he accepts and we trade him, or he declines, we could earn ourselves 1 or 2 prospects in return that we would otherwise not have gotten if we didn't offer him arb.

QUOTE (Cali @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 12:00 AM) I in no way believe anything KW says in regards to trades/off-season moves, UNDER THE RADAR etc., But if that actually happened, I see no reason to spend $200 on the MLB package or really even follow the team.... That's quite overboard. I can understand not paying the $200 to see a team that (in your eyes) isn't worth it, but to not even follow them, online or otherwise? That's dramatic. -
Almost done with season 3 of Dexter. So awesome.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 06:23 PM) The beauty of your suggestion? If I fire back "But what are the odds that Ramirez doesn't get hurt next year"...you immediately can go grab a sign that says "Fail". So....you are agreeing with me then?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 05:31 PM) That's probably the biggest problem with signing Manny...if Manroid is healthy, then your RF next year is either Quentin or a Teahen/Quentin ball-dropping party-platoon. I agree. The only thing against signing Manny would be Quentin being stuck in RF again. Would be great if we could trade Quentin, while signing Manny. Salaries would offset. And you imagine replacing Quentin for Manny F'ing Ramirez and adding NOTHING to the payroll? I'd squeal with joy.

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to witesoxfan's topic in The Diamond Club
Uggla is about to be traded to Braves for Omar Infante and Mike Dunn. Doesn't seem like that great of a deal for Uggla who is coming off the best year of his career. Despite being 30 and not a good defender, I figured he would net more than this. I guess not though. I wonder if this impacts the Braves going for Upton or not. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 16, 2010 -> 04:12 PM) It'd depend on what the D-Backs are looking for. It's entirely possible that they could be 100% insistent on getting MLB-established talent for him, rather than a trio/quartet of prospects. Churchill suggests the Dbacks would want high-contact players since they are probably sick of players striking out 145+ times a year (Reynolds, LaRoche, Upton, Johnson, Young). But I would think they would love some pitching too.
