  1. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Nov 20, 2010 -> 02:41 PM) I hate that no matter how bad a player is, inevitably there will be a thread about the Sox going after him. It's always the same thing too. "But what if Cooper can fix him/He just needs a change of scenery". It's like being a kid and my parents telling me the store brand cereal is just as good. No it isn't and the Sox aren't going to get better if our targets are Zach Duke and Delwyn Young. Actually, it usually is because a lot of times it's manufactured by companies like Quaker Oats and General Mills who just give them a cheap name and low price to target both spectrums of the market. Kids Krunch is the EXACT SAME thing as Cap'n Crunch.
  2. I saw this, and I can't believe how stupid it was. And what was with him grouping us with the Cubs in saying that both teams are doomed and heading the wrong way. Umm....we won 88 games without a DH and our ace for half the year. I am pretty sure we are in much better shape than the Cubs.
  3. I believe they also DFA'd Andy LaRoche and Dewlyn Young. All 3 are pretty interesting names for them to dump. I'd take a flier on Duke I guess if we do trade a starter.
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 20, 2010 -> 01:09 AM) Yes, lets get into the "Daniel Hudson is the best, cheapest, most talented young pitcher ever" discussion. lol, for real. Anything short of a cy young next year is a failure.
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 19, 2010 -> 11:31 PM) If they're non-roster invites, I assume that means that they've already signed. Bruney has never been able to stay healthy, but he has a big arm. That's a good minor league signing and, depending on how many relievers Williams brings in, I would say that he has a legitimate chance at winning a spot in the bullpen. Oh, I thought non-roster invite meant that they are basically coming to camp with us to try and prove themselves and get a contract from the team they are in camp with, but worst care scenario, gain attention from other teams. I just assumed if we signed him I would have heard something about it, but you could very well be right. EDIT: Nevermind, I found a link. http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/white-sox/...urney-mcpherson
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 19, 2010 -> 11:26 PM) Unless the Twins decided they wanted him With Young, Span, Cuddyer, Kubel, Repko, and Ben Revere on the cusp, I kind of doubt they are going after an OF.
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 19, 2010 -> 10:50 PM) Looks like pitchers Brian Bruney and Josh Kinney will be non-roster invites according to the Twitter world. If they don't get signed by someone first, right? Bruney is a pretty interesting name. He was dominant in 2008. Maybe Coop can "Matt Thornton" him.
  8. Upton has an extremely limited NO TRADE CLAUSE. Can not be traded to A's, Royals, Indians, or Tigers w/o permission. This is great news for us.
  9. QUOTE (3E8 @ Nov 19, 2010 -> 05:28 PM) Astros are up for sale. Anyone got an extra half-billion dollars lying around I'll check my couch cushions.
  10. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Nov 19, 2010 -> 04:39 PM) I thought it was 3 years 65 million that he was offered He was offered a 3 yr/$63M offer. He turned it down, so the Yankees lowered their offer, and will probably continue to until Jeter realizes he isn't worth even half that.
  11. QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 19, 2010 -> 08:06 AM) I'm sooooo winning "The Sacko" this year Lol. Vinegar Strokes!
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 18, 2010 -> 04:28 PM) Really? I don't really follow many of the sabermetric stats, but glancing at the everyday pitching stats, I think there were several pitchers who had better 2010 regular seasons than Lee did. His ridculously low walk total does stand out, but other than that nothing from last season makes me say Cliff Lee = 2010 Cy Young. His historically good peripherals stand out to me. Intentional walks aside, he had 183 Ks to 16 BB. That's 11.43 K/BB, good for the BEST ALL TIME. Even in Pedro Martinez's amazing years, he was churning out 8-9 K/BB rates. Only 1 other person is history has EVER posted a K/BB rate above 10. K/BB is an extremely pitcher-specific stat. Hits, runs, wins, all have some sort of effect from their defense. K/BB are just between the hitter and the pitcher. No one else factors in. Then add in the fact that Cliff pitched through 2 injuries (abdominal and back), AND pitched 1/3 of his season in Texas, and I think he deserves a LOT more respect than the vote shows. I am not outraged that he lost, but outraged that he would not even crack the top 3. Also, if you want sabermetics, Lee had a 7.1 WAR to Felix's 6.2 WAR.
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 18, 2010 -> 04:00 PM) I disagree. All six of the pitchers that finished ahead of him had great seasons as well. Felix/Price/Weaver/Clay all had lower ERAs, CC was tied with him, Lester had 40 more K's in fewer innings. Lee had some struggles when he first got to Texas, I think 7th is where he belongs, if not below Cahill or Soriano. I would have given Cliff the Cy Young, but I figured he would at least finish in 2nd. 7th just makes me lose faith in the Cy Young award now as well.
  14. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Nov 18, 2010 -> 02:04 PM) Felix AL Cy Young. Cliff Lee finishing 7th in the Cy Young is like Jeter winning the Gold Glove.
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 18, 2010 -> 01:14 PM) who for who??? Dbacks traded a 19-year-old starter who had pretty good peripherals (9 K/9 to a 2.7 BB/9) for a 28-year-old 1B who is probably just a back-up player. Makes no sense for the Dbacks whom is thought to be trading off their talented players.
  16. Dbacks trade Scott Allen to Yankees for Juan Miranda.
  17. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Nov 18, 2010 -> 12:34 PM) FWIW, Bruce Levine is saying the Sox are not shopping Quentin. I don't know if that means anything. I would assume that Quentin would be on his way to another team if the right offer came along. Could be Kenny being clever in saying the Sox aren't shopping him, but other teams are asking for him. If I recall, the Phillies were interested in Quentin, not that the Sox pushed Quentin on to the Phillies.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 06:18 PM) I'd assume he meant Quentin, since something tells me Philly might not be the best mental fit for Floyd. Quentin for Brown? Might as well ask for Ryan Howard as a throw-in.
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 10:12 PM) lmao. Kevin Towers would have to enter the witness protection program if that's all he could net for Upton. ? Did you not read the whole post or what?
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 07:41 PM) We already have Rajai Davis. He goes by the name of Juan Pierre. One Juan Pierre is Juan too many. Fixed your post.
  21. Someone on MLBTR brought up an 3-team interesting trade. White Sox get: Justin Upton Rockies get: Gavin Floyd Arizona gets: collection of 1-2 prospects from White Sox, 2-3 prospects from Rockies. Honestly, that works out for everyone. Rockies like Floyd, Sox would like to add an OF, especially of Upton's caliber, and Towers wants 4-5 prospects in return for Upton. I would think the Sox would trade Escobar (since Drew might be on his way out soon), and maybe a pitching prospect of ours, Infante maybe since the Dbacks are seeking bullpen arms. Would you trade Floyd, Escobar, and Infante for Upton? I would.
  22. Dallas McPherson - 2011's Mark Kotsay? He will make the team out of the spring because of his "veteran leadership"
  23. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 08:03 PM) Does anyone else find it utterly comical that the guy's nickname is E-Jax? Went to school with a kid named "Eric Jackman". I was the kid who when he was late to class would yell "E-Jack, You late!". I got in trouble a lot in school.
  24. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 05:32 PM) Don't want any part of Ibanez if we're going after Godzilla for our DH. Domonic Brown I'd start the discussions around, although my guess would be Philly would be very reluctant to part with him. Dominic Brown for who? Floyd?
