Was looking up the moves we made for the 2006 season and they look pretty similar to the moves we are making for the 2011 season..... 2006 - Added Jim Thome 2011 - Added Adam Dunn Both are slugging lefthanders who are DH's are are known for having 1 major skill, and that's smashing home runs. Both expensive. 2006 - Signed AJ Pierzynski to $5M annual contract 2011 - Signed AJ Pierzynski to $4M annual contract 2006 - Signed Paul Konerko to $12.5M annual contract 2011 - Likely to sign Paul Konerko to annual contract around $12M Key pieces that don't match up are the Sox trading for Javy Vazquez, and then resigning Jon Garland. (Danks?)

White Sox trade Scott Linebrink to Braves

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 02:46 PM) I wouldn't say I'm "not all that excited" b/c I am excited. But I agree that this isn't close to what I was feeling in the '06 offseason. Give me Konerko and I think this surpasses the '06 offseason. -
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 02:16 PM) Bernstein stood by his stance that there are a lot of people who still hate Santo. Count me in.

Consider this us signing AJ for FREE last night. Could be the greatest 24-hour span in White Sox offseason history. -

I am not going to lie and pretend that he was a good announcer, because he was terrible in my opinion, but it can't be denied that he loved the Cubs and he was very enthusiastic about the team.

The Bridge is at it again.... BSLillibridge Why is #Cleveland booing evrytime heat has the ball, Ilgauskas return to Cleveland is not being received well. they must be bitter -
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 08:20 PM) ESPN sucks. The "Lead" part of their crawl didn't mention Dunn going to the Sox, but it did advertise that the Yankees and Jeter had talked again! Oh, and the 2022 World Cup will be in Qatar. Imagine if the Red Sox or Yankees had signed Dunn? They'd have cancelled all other programming. Lol, that's very true. I wonder if it will get a segment on 1st Take, ATH, or PTI.

A.J. not close to signing with Blue Jays

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 08:03 PM) the Tyler Flowers era is going to be like the Brian Anderson era....or the Josh Fields era...or the... I am ok with it being the 2007 Josh Field era....just not anything else. -
Pierre Alexei Dunn Konerko Rios Quentin Beckham Morel Flowers That's not a bad lineup at all. Weak bottom 3rd, but 1-5 is extremely potent.

This would give the Blue Jays Pierzynski, Molina, and Arrencibia. Would be nice if Kenny could take Arrencibia off AA's hands. -

QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 07:47 PM) Honestly, Castro was better than AJ the last few years. A platoon with Flowers isn't the worst thing. EDIT: Where are you seeing this? MLBTraderumors per Cowley. Nothing official, but "are close". -
AJ to the Blue Jays? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/12/blue...pierzynski.html

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 12:06 PM) Is Kenny Williams even alive? Prolly. I think he just took a 5-hour energy. -
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 05:30 PM) Wow, great addition!! The best Chaunakka gift I've ever got!!! You readin my Facebook!?!?!? "Welcome to the Southside, Adam Dunn. This is the best Hanukkah ever!"

I would think one of Buehrle/Peavy/Rios/Jackson HAVE to be traded if the Sox truly intend of bringing Konerko back. Also, interesting that Dunn's starting point was 4yr/$60, and he took $56. Wonder if he agreed to it so long as they throw that $4M to Paulie.

jcrasnick The Chicago White Sox have jumped in on free agent Adam Dunn, according to sources. Kenny Williams' interest appears serious less than a minute ago via web

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 1, 2010 -> 06:47 PM) Linkity. I like Orel Hersiser's commentary. I enjoyed him in the CWS (or was it LLWS?) -
Ugh, and Baltimore's 1st RD pick is protected. Fuuuxxx.

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All

Rangers sign Torrealba to 2 year/$6.25M deal. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 29, 2010 -> 05:35 PM) I get the feeling the Astros still think they can compete this year. I would say that would be a bad idea, but then again they just traded for Barmes, who will be 32 before the season starts, so I really have no idea what they are doing.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 29, 2010 -> 05:03 PM) He is probably someone the Astros need to trade, much like Arizona is looking to trade Justin Upton, simply to help reload the organization with some young talent. This is probably not something we would be a very good partner for, since we don't have a lot of young talent ourselves. I wonder what interest they would have in Escobar and Thompson. It would probably cost more than that, and I don't really know their farm system that well (although I am pretty sure it's awful), but I would think they would like to have some young, high ceiling players like that.
