  1. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 12:31 PM) The Twins always give us problems even if they arent good. We beat the Tigers regularly. Gimme the Tigers vs Twins 7-4 vs. Tigers 5-4
  2. If the Sox win the next four, I'd like to see the Twins win 3 of 4. Yes, the Tigers still scare me more.
  3. Might have some rain delays tonight.
  4. 91 if they win at least 3 of 7 from Minnesota, and 4 of 9 from Detroit.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 11:27 AM) Some reporter on ESPN First Take was on talking about some rumors about the Sox dealing Konerko and that Boston is very interested. Apparently the belief in Boston is that Ortiz will be out for the season. However, for the most part the rumors she was talking about sounded like a bunch of crap. Did indicate that the Sox may be looking to acquire pitching. I really don't think there was any legitimate inside info regarding these rumors though. I don't see Konerko approving a trade to any team that doesn't have spring training in Arizona, or that plays east of the Mississippi.
  6. If the Sox can find a way to replace Thome and/or find a true leadoff guy, that should be the target. I'm happy with the pitching staff.
  7. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 09:54 AM) what do you mean by "draft and follow" ? Up until last year when they changed the rules, teams would draft guys in the later rounds with no intention of signing them right away. They would tell the player that they would like to sign them the following year right before the following year's draft--usually in May. If you go to a 4-year school, you can't come out until after your junior year. So these players would go to community colleges and junior colleges, and play that season and sign in May. So the new rule is really hurting the JUCO programs.
  8. It's incredible that a draft-and-follow 38th rounder from 1998 made the majors in 2000. Makes you wonder where he would have been drafted in 1999.
  9. 8th rounder, Kevin Dubler is catching for Bristol tonight.
  10. If they can replace Thome with a better bat, they should do it. Sorry for Jim, but if the opportunity is there, you have to take it.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 27, 2008 -> 03:31 PM) Nothing wrong with that. Probably should be resting him more. Especially with the lefties. Although I'm not sure how much I like the all righty lineup, lefties are only hitting .077 against Laffey on the season, so that's not that bad of a move on paper. I think Dye and Q ought to get offdays within the next few. How about next Monday with the rest of the team?

Richar 0-2 so far. Fields 2-2; 2 homers
  13. If Smoak is still out there at 8, I hope the Sox take him. If he goes to the minors for a year or two, he'll be ready when Konerko is gone or moved to DH. In my opinion, we're going to see less and less true power hitters as MLB gets away from HGH. We've seen power number go down drastically over the last two seasons. I think a switch-hitting power hitter not named Joe Borchard, would be awesome.
  14. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 18, 2008 -> 02:41 PM) this just in from NASA: Cliff Lee cleared for re-entry to earth. Yes. Nice to see he actually has an ERA.
  15. Cabrera Pierzynski Quentin Dye Konerko Crede Ramirez Anderson Danks
  16. Cowley reported he's ok. Will make the start on Tuesday.
  17. Just guessing, but it's probably: Cabrera, Pierzynski, Quentin, Dye, Konerko, Crede, Swisher, Ramirez, Danks
  18. I think in baseball you try to win no matter what, and let the draft order fall into place. There's no sure thing anyway. The best teams draft the best throughout the first 10-20 rounds, and hope to get a surprise after that.
  19. Joe Cowley is reporting Contreras has a sore back, and that if it doesn't improve on Sunday, he'll be pushed back. Which would mean, the Indians series would probably be Vazquez, Floyd, Buehrle; the Angels series would be Contreras, Danks, Vazquez.
  20. Bench tonight is Thome, Crede, Pierzynski, Anderson, and Uribe.
  21. QUOTE (ChiSox35 @ May 17, 2008 -> 10:42 AM) AJ isn't going to live forever. A catcher who you know is going to start one day soon should be one of their priorities. I agree a catcher should be on their list of needs. Not sure if Jason Castro is worthy of a top 10 pick. I just have a feeling they're either going to get Gordon Beckham or Brett Wallace.
  22. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 15, 2008 -> 06:26 PM) If Mark is pitching Friday night I'll watch it on WGN. I am expecting a good game from him. Saturday. Floyd-Sanchez Buehrle-Zito Danks-Cain
  23. Too soon to sign Quentin long-term. The shoulder injury is a concern still, so I think they'll wait until at least the middle of 2009.
  24. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ May 15, 2008 -> 01:09 PM) Eh, maybe it's me being greedy but I'd hope for more out of our first selection, #8 overall, than a protypical #2 hitter. Put it this way -- if everything goes right does his skill set strike you as someone you'd expect to be a perennial all-star? I imagine him as a slightly above average shortstop. Never at the top of the league at his position; but towards the middle of the pack. Not bad for the 20th overall selection, but I'd rather aim higher. Justin Smoak is someone, if everything goes right, you could help build a franchise around. No question which player should be selected if both were available. My expectations for this draft are ridiculously high. Look at recent drafts and players taken around our position. Many good names. There should be no excuses for playing cheap, anyways, as there has been rumors floating around the slot recommendation system would fall once and for all. Good points. Again, my main thing--take a college position player. Whether it's Beckham, Smoak, or Alonso, I just want someone that can be on the fast track. Any projections on Jason Castro, the Stanford catcher (not the American Idol dude)? That would be a typical Kenny Williams pick, but is he worthy of a #8 pick?
  25. I have nothing to base this opinion other than reading scouting reports and watching clips, but I hope the Sox take a college position player. Somebody that could be in the 2010 Opening Day lineup. I've heard a lot about Justin Smoak, but it would be cool if they took Gordon Beckham. A homegrown shortstop would be a refreshing change for the Sox. Plus he'd probably be a prototypical 2-hitter.
