That's one way of looking at it. The Sox front office could find a way to rationalize bringing him up, and I'm sure most fans will eat it up. And in the end, it may work out just fine...but it's a big gamble that I wouldn't make.

If anything, I think the next CBA is going to knock free agency down to 5 years, so the Sox may have him for the "winning years" of 2021, 2022, an 2023 if they bring him up this year. It would be exciting for the fans, but front offices can't think that way, obviously.

If that's a gamble they want to take, go for it. They would have to feel good about locking him up though.
