  3. Was very visible when they bought the team. Seemed like a good guy. RIP.
  4. https://twitter.com/DannyEcker/status/702854760160956416 The Sox have an octogenarian owner.
  5. The 30 Clubs in 30 Days for the Sox will be Sunday, March 6.
  6. Doesn't hurt anything, and it probably wouldn't be a bad thing for Rollins to be around Tim Anderson for six weeks.
  7. He'll be a Sox killer. Ryan Raburn is still unsigned.

  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 16, 2016 -> 11:18 AM) That's actually a pretty weak opening 5 series even with 3 of them being on the road. Out of those, there's 1 team I expect to have a winning record and 4 teams that I wouldn't be very surprised to see below .500. Since it's baseball probably at least 1, maybe 2 of them will surprise and be better than expected, but the A's are very young, the Twins are pretty young and they're on paper the weakest team in the Central (they need their pitching staff to return to form and several guys to develop just to make a run at things), the Rays have some talent but look generally like a weaker team in the East, and the Angels have basically Mike Trout and a bunch of prayers. Are they smart enough to just go from Arizona to Oakland without stopping in Chicago first? That'd be some extra helpful sleep. Arizona to San Diego for two games, and then up to Oakland. Just hope the Thursday day game is rain free and quick so they can get back to Chicago at a decent hour. No off day before the home opener. As far as the start to the season, I've been thinking "Please be 12-8 instead of 8-12 after 20 games". It's such a huge difference. This team desperately needs to start ok.
  12. Hate the guy, but can't complain about the deal. He has a big incentive to shut up and pitch this year. And hopefully Frazier endorsed it somewhat. If they go north with 12 pitchers: Sale, Quintana, Rodon, Latos, Danks Jennings, Duke, Albers, Petricka, Putnam, Jones, Robertson A lot can still happen in the next 55 days.
  13. This being a rumor means it won't happen.
  14. From the first time I heard Avila speak while he was with the Tigers, I said, "Future manager".
  15. The Hahn/Ventura seminar is tonight 6-6:45. Somebody live tweet that.
  16. Could you imagine Buehrle starting the home opener as the 5th starter? That would be pretty awesome. But it seems more likely they'll just give him the 1-day contract thing, and announce they're retiring his number.
  17. If anyone has access to ask a respectful question to Robin Ventura, ask him if he would run spring training any differently than last year, and can we expect earlier cuts this spring training in hopes of being ready when the bell rings on April 4th.
  18. https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/692768708930998272 Welcome, Toddfather.
  19. The good thing about this year's schedule is that they didn't front load the first 5 weeks with division games like last year. The Sox don't play the Tigers until Game 56 (barring postponements). Breakdown of the first 55 (home-away, with record needed) Cle 6-0 (4-2) KC 3-4 (4-3) Min 3-3 (3-3) Oak 0-4 (2-2) TB 0-3 (1-2) LAA 4-0 (2-2) Tex 3-3 (3-3) Tor 0-3 (1-2) Bal 0-4 (2-2) Bos 3-0 (2-1) NY 0-3 (1-2) Hou 3-0 (2-1) NYM 0-3 (1-2) The aggregate of those records would be 28-27, in 25 home games and 30 road games. If the Sox are 24-31 after 55 it won't matter that they're in the AL Central. It'll be another lost season. That said, if you could promise me 10-9 against all four division teams right now, I'd take it.
  20. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 27, 2016 -> 11:41 AM) Hasnt there been some recent talk of Hawk either signing an extension or has a multi year deal in place? I dont remember. I think he has a multi-year deal, but it could easily just transition into an ambassador role if he chooses to retire at the end of the year.
  21. Also, it seems like this season is setting up to be a final lap around the country for Hawk, a la Konerko. Say goodbye to some people he's known for a long time, and retire at 75.
  22. I want more potty mouth Bill Melton this year.

  24. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 12:13 PM) Whoops! Didn't mean to repeat you flavum. It took me a few minutes to mess around with my phone to find the podcast. If it is Sox related and useful, somebody is on it! Soxtalk is awesome! All good.
