  1. When Danks had a quality start: 20 games, 130.2 innings, 2.48 ERA (team record 10-10, 1-6 in no decisions) Without quality starts: 12 games, 63 innings, 9.43 ERA #1 positive--he made his starts. No DL time. #2 positive--he's another year away from surgery, which could help him #3 positive--he's playing with a better offense to support him He'll be fine.
  2. Danks had 20 quality starts last year. Where was he ranked in the league on that? No question his bad was really bad, but with a better offense behind him, he'll be better. I have no problem with Danks and Noesi at 4 and 5 right now.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 05:45 PM) Most of the issues will take care of themselves over the next five weeks or so. Good answer.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 04:41 PM) Surkamp I wouldn't mind keeping around for depth. Cleto can't catch a bus out of town fast enough. Just wondering if they have options left. Like Guerra...I could see him getting traded or DFA if he's out of options. Sox are in a position where they may have to add Johnson, Soto, and Crain and/or Albers to the 40-man, so a couple these guys may have to go. Maybe an 8-man bullpen buys a couple weeks to evaluate in-season.
  5. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 02:26 PM) So who does everyone think is going to win the 2B job?? Was watching a CSN video and they had Beckham as the projected 2B to start the season. That is the one guy I don't want starting I don't know who updates the Sox website's depth chart, but I agree with them... http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/team/depth...ex.jsp?c_id=cws They want Johnson to win it. He has to play bad in spring training not to be the 2B on opening day.
  6. Any relievers on the Option bubble this year? Cleto and Surkamp free to go to AAA?
  7. Keep in mind the schedule is heavily weighted with division games the first 5 weeks of the season--for every team. It's really important not to suck the first month, so if it takes stacking your bullpen to win more games in the first 30, it could be a good strategy.
  8. Theoretically, they could get away with it. Bonifacio, Beckham, and Soto could probably cover it. Gillaspie can move over to first, when needed. I kinda like it.

    Schitt's Creek...surprisingly funny.
  10. I wonder if a day is coming where the MLBPA supports American-born players to make scratch like this. Or more likely...Moncada gets thrown in the pool to be drafted just like everyone else.

  13. Sox will be playing a home game 7 weeks from now. Danks better get through 5.

  15. Tim McClelland retiring after 31 years. Best known for the George Brett pine tar game, but he was also behind the plate for the Blackout Game. Ball hits glove....wait two seconds....strike.

  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 20, 2015 -> 11:28 AM) I still say, if he's healthy, he's your set up guy. That's a gigantic if. Agreed. He and Albers are both nice to have in camp. Can't have enough arms.
  18. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 20, 2015 -> 11:13 AM) Chris Sale just showed up.. with 50 media people surrounding him... He already called Bruce Levine "Negative Nancy". Ha!
  19. I thought 7/140 before he signed his 2015 contract, so 6/130 seems about right. Hopefully they can get him for 5 years though.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 20, 2015 -> 09:59 AM) If the White Sox feel that Rodon is pitching well enough to be the potential difference between winning and losing the division, Rodon will be on the roster. I can't see them making that determination in the next 6 weeks. They probably go to spring training with a roster in mind that doesn't include Rodon. They just got done admitting they rushed Beckham in 2009. I know it's different with pitching, but there is no rush right now. They have five starters, and two lefties in the pen. Until it's clear they need to move Danks or Noesi out of the rotation, or Dan Jennings pitches his way out of the pen, or an injury or trade happens, there really is no reason for Rodon to make the team out of spring training. He can get his starts in the minors to build up some innings and be ready to come up later on when there is a need.

  22. QUOTE (shysocks @ Feb 19, 2015 -> 03:24 PM) That would surprise me. Anybody but Sanchez on opening day would surprise me. If Johnson plays bad in spring training, he'll go down to Charlotte. But I think he would have to be less than adequate not to be the starting 2b--and I'm just basing this on how the team talks about him.
  23. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Feb 19, 2015 -> 03:12 PM) The irrational exuberance on Micah Johnson is one of the most inexplicable things I've seen. He can't field 2B. Until he does, he's a 25th man, at best. If he gets 400 PA in Charlotte and goes 300/340/440 with 30 out of 40 SB and the reports on his defense are better -- than fine, pencil him in for 2016. Until then he's just a middling prospect IMO. He's not 22, he's 24, that's a major blow. He's older than Sanchez FFS. It seems like they want Johnson to win that job. I'm glad they have a Plan, B, C, and D this year, but I'm expecting Johnson to be batting 9th on opening day.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 19, 2015 -> 02:19 PM) If he has a big spring, he breaks the team in the pen, if there isn't a spot in the rotation that can be stolen. I disagree, but we'll see. Duke and Jennings have locked positions, and it's not likely they go with three lefties. I'm thinking he'll start in the minors for at least 6 weeks, and then if there's a need somewhere, he'll be ready to come up.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 19, 2015 -> 02:14 PM) If Rodon has a big spring, I don't see how they don't take him north. I think it would take an injury for Rodon to make the team out of spring training.
