  1. QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 30, 2013 -> 04:17 PM) Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz When it comes to trades actually getting done, no news is good news. I hope it stays quiet for another week and they get a few things done in Orlando.
  2. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 29, 2013 -> 10:57 AM) Why? So he can be there just to ensure the team stays mediocre? This team does not need to be investing $ in any player that isn't apart of the future. Plus the current lineup is already over capacity with guys who can't keep their OBP above .320. It depends on the rest of the roster, but I'd rather take a chance on Granderson to have a couple good years than watch De Aza or Viciedo play. This team needs a personality change too. And it wouldn't hurt to bring in a guy like Granderson for the right price. He can bring some value other than just his numbers. But again, we'll know soon enough where he's going. My guess is somebody will offer him 3 guaranteed years in the 40-45 range, and he'll take it. I don't want that team to be the Sox.
  3. If they got Granderson for 2 years at 26 mil, I'd be happy with that. Two years while the Sox are still trying to develop some guys, I'd be ok with. Three years is where I don't want him--especially at 12+ mil. I bet he signs somewhere in the next two weeks, so we'll know soon enough.
  4. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Nov 27, 2013 -> 04:52 AM) You would vote in 2 admitted cheaters but leave Edgar out? It's a hell of a ballot tho. If Morris gets in than Mussina does too. I would go: Thomas, Maddux, Biggio, Glavine. And making cases for Piazza, Trammell and Mussina. And maybe Clemens based on his numbers before the steriods in which he dominated from'84 to '93 Actually Mcgriff should be considered 493 HR ain't no cakewalk. I could probably be swayed on Edgar, but I'm not sure he had enough great seasons as just a DH. But I'm not voting, so if 75% of the people do vote him in, then good for him. To me, McGriff is Willie McCovey, but didn't get to 500 home runs because of the 1994-1995 strike. He missed 60-65 games where he certainly would have hit 7 more homers. Plus, I think he was clean in a dirty era.
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 26, 2013 -> 04:47 PM) If you look around, there's virtually no one who is not including Thomas on their actual or hypothetical ballots If I could give Frank any advice over the next 5 weeks--don't talk.
  6. If I could vote for 16 players: Bagwell, Biggio, Bonds, Clemens, Glavine, Kent, Maddux, Mattingly, McGriff, Morris, Mussina, Piazza, Raines, Schilling, Thomas, Trammell I'm easy, but I wouldn't vote for Edgar Martinez, Larry Walker, Sosa, McGwire, Palmeiro, or the rest.
  7. Never heard of him, but he's had some number seasons in the past. Pitched a little for the Cubs org last year too. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/p...id=chavez001yoh
  8. Among others, Denny McLain is saying Avisail Garcia was banging Prince's wife. Which would mean Avi also cheated on his pregnant wife. Yeesh. http://deadspin.com/denny-mclain-says-dome...dium=socialflow
  9. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 25, 2013 -> 06:12 PM) I'd take him for like 2-3 years for $15-20M. But with the contract McCann got, it wouldn't shock me to see Navarro get $10M a year from someone. For a guy that has played 225 games over the last four seasons, I can't see him getting more than 2 years/12 mil. Something like that.
  10. I think I heard Dan Hayes mention Navarro over the weekend as a possibility. Maybe that was out of some information given to him.
  11. The offseason moves started June, 2013 and they'll finish February, 2015. This is a slow burn to get back to respectability. But if you're really looking at 2014, give it to December 12. See what we have at the end of the Winter Meetings.
  12. I never thought Alexei was going to be easy to move. Beckham on the other hand...some team will take his defense and think they can get his bat right. Should be interesting for the Sox the next few weeks. I can't remember this much activity this early in the offseason.
  13. https://twitter.com/MattEddyBA/status/404305716204171264 A couple older guys...but another middle infielder. Tigers also signed Jhan Marinez.
  14. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 22, 2013 -> 02:27 PM) I'd rather this indicate that a Alexei for Pisciotty trade is more likely. Cardnals added 2 OFers in this deal. Pisciotty is also behind Tavaras as well. I hope that's the direction Hahn is looking, and not Jon Jay. Yeah, just looking at Jay's numbers, he's not that much of an upgrade from De Aza, and he's arb eligible. Sox need to go younger/ more upside than Jay.
  15. Should we start the Jon Jay to the Sox speculation? Man, he played a brutal OF in the postseason.
  16. The first instinct the voters are going to have is to check Maddux, then Glavine because of the teammate pitching thing, then Frank. I'll predict: Maddux 99.1% Glavine 87.5% Thomas 78.7% They all count as getting in, so I wouldn't complain. But this is the order I expect.
  17. QUOTE (scs787 @ Nov 22, 2013 -> 10:36 AM) If you really believe in their prospects, yes. But the way Hahn has been talking, it's not gonna happen. Sale has probably crossed into the Jerry Reinsdorf Circle of Loyalty anyway. But if the Sox could get a good starting pitching prospect, plus a few other players---and also thought there was a premium starting pitcher they could get at #3 next June, I wouldn't be against it. On the other hand, once you have an ace locked up on good contract, it would be very hard to say goodbye.
  18. Do the Rangers have any package of players that could get the Sox thinking on Chris Sale?
  19. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 22, 2013 -> 10:04 AM) Still think it is a better chance he ends up on an AL East team, they could all use him. I'll believe it when I see it when it comes to trading Dunn, but if the Orioles end up trading Chris Davis, and the Sox are willing to eat a bunch of money, maybe Dunn ends up in Baltimore.
  20. If Frank doesn't get in this year it's not because he doesn't deserve to be a "first ballot" guy (which is a ridiculous term---either you are or you are not a hall of famer), it's because of the steroid era guys clogging the ballot, and voters are only allowed to vote for ten players. In a clean baseball world, Clemens and Bonds would have gotten in last year. And probably Bagwell and Piazza. Now, with Maddux and Glavine being added, it's getting ridiculous. I think Frank gets over the 75% mark, but I'll say in the 78-82 range. But overall, I'm tired of the Hall of Fame. It's supposed to be a positive thing for Baseball, and it's all about negativity and who doesn't belong. There's no fun in that.
  21. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 21, 2013 -> 08:25 PM) Do you remember the Reagan presidency? That's the last time the Royals made the playoffs. I've seen the Royals lose and win a World Series. Now excuse me while I go take my back pill.
  22. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 21, 2013 -> 07:25 PM) I honestly don't see us entering the 2014 season with both Ramirez & Beckham on the team. IMO, one of these guys will be traded this offseason. If that happens, Semien will be needed in the middle infield. And quite frankly, I'd rather not use him as a bandaid at 3B if he's going to be a 2B/SS long-term. Let him develop him defensively where he protects to be. I agree. The Sox have numbers at 2B- Semien and Garcia are probably ready, Sanchez and Johnson are close enough, and Elmore as a backup. Something has to give with the middle infield, and I don't see the Sox moving Beckham to 3B.
  23. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 21, 2013 -> 07:23 PM) How do the Royals expect people to take them seriously with moves like this? How's that John Danks signing looking for us? I mean, can a Sox fan really point fingers coming off 99 losses?
