Now that he's 3.67 years in, and we know he's not even an average offensive player, but shows occasional power, I wouldn't mind if they moved him back to 3B, batted him second one last time, and tried Carlos Sanchez at 2B and batted him 9th. BTW, Sanchez went 5-5 yesterday, and is hitting well over .300 in the AFL. Not that it means much, but it's better than hitting .200. He also has played exclusively at 2B.

Surprising news on Peavy. For only two guaranteed years, I like it even if the yearly amount is high. The thought of a rotation of a healthy Sale, Peavy, Danks, Floyd, and Quintana sounds great, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if Floyd and/or Quintana got traded in the offseason. The Sox have other needs--catcher, 3B. We'll see.

I wouldn't sign Pierzynski or Peavy to a deal more than two years, so I think they're gone. I would decline Youk's option, so he's probably gone. There's just too many variables to say exactly what I would do with trades and free agents, but my overall philosophy would be: Don't mortgage the future with high risk contracts like Rios, Dunn, and Peavy were. Keep outside pickups to 1-2 year deals while you try to develop your own players. Try to sell high on Rios and Dunn if anyone wants them in the right deal. See what the interest is with Thornton and Crain. Try to get younger. Try to get more athletic players that can play in September and October. Try to have five starting pitchers that are prepared to start 32 games and throw 200 innings.

I don't consider the Tigers a "rival". This isn't college football. But hey, if you want to hate teams out of jealousy, that's your right.
