The Gio trades don't bother me now. He was super young in the Thome trade. The Swisher trade looks bad looking back, but it's just an offseason trade that didn't work out. The Hudson/Holmberg trade however was just bad. The team wasn't in a position to be making that gamble on Jackson being that guy to put them over the top. That 2010 team started 24-33, had a 26-5 run, and then crashed back to earth. And if you're curious what Holmberg is up to... http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?s...&pid=571787 Tell you what...if the Sox win the World Series this year, I'll never mention Hudson and Holmberg again.

Holland shaved that thing on his face, and gave up 8 runs. 16-0 Mariners

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 30, 2012 -> 06:33 PM) ptac seemed encouraged about his mechanics. It almost would seem more likely if you just shut him down and limited his side work that he might end up being more likely to get injured when he came back and then felt too strong...I don't think what's the science behind that view, but whatever the eventual strategy turns out to be, it's going to be second-guessed. Cooper's already getting annoyed with the "rear seat driver" criticism. It's a scary thing with Sale. Probably the best thing for him is just watch his innings. Cooper watches the pitch count--don't let him tell you otherwise. Sox have a 4 run lead after 6 innings? Pull him. Sox have a big lead after 5 innings? Pull him. Skipping a start or two if the Sox open up a big division lead? Absolutely. They have to worry about the business of winning without being stupid with Sale. It's a tough thing.

QUOTE (Jake @ May 30, 2012 -> 06:05 PM) You realize Sale pitching less is what we need to happen. 200 innings from him is potentially disastrous and reckless on our part. If we can limit his innings without making his individual starts shorter and without making him stop permanently in the middle of a pennant run, that'd be perfect. Peavy likely falls into this category too, along with Humber. I don't actually think they should do this, but the thought came to me that maybe they should shut Sale down now until after the break. Keep Quintana going through interleague and the rest of the first half. If he's good, then maybe you feel comfortable trading Floyd. Then Sale gets 15 starts/100 innings in the second half. That would put him at 155-160 innings going into the postseason.

The true 6-man rotation for a long time--no way. Bad idea. A 20-day stretch without an off day, and you want to break it up by giving somebody a start? Absolutely.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 30, 2012 -> 05:33 PM) Some of you guys have such knee-jerk reactions when it comes to prospects. Nestor wasn't going to be a chance on this team until MAYBE sometime next season anyway. If we get to the start of 2014 season and he isn't ready to take a spot at the end of the rotation, then I'll be worried. If the parent club was bad (which thankfully they are not), and they trade Peavy and Floyd, and Molina was good at AA, of course he could have come up in the second half. Where the Sox are now, and where Molina is now, of course not now. But it's not accurate to say he had no chance to be up at some point this season.

Indians down 6-3 in the 9th, one out. Two on.

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 30, 2012 -> 02:30 PM) If De Aza is hurt badly, the Sox need to send a real message the next time these two teams play in Chicago. Which is the last week of the season. That could be interesting.

Unless Quintana was throwing at the head, the right call would be to warn both benches. He basically did what Humber did to Lahair. Bad umpiring. But Hawk needs to tone it down a little. Again, he's not on the team.

Manto was on the Score today. Haven't heard it yet, so I'm not sure if he had anything worth listening to. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/?podcast_url=h...mp;dcid=CBS.CHI

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 30, 2012 -> 09:39 AM) I disagree a little...I think he's going to hit a dead arm period too, but I think the best way to handle that is to build in some extra rest. Use Mr. "Offday" once a month for him in June/July/August/September, he'll still push 150+ innings if he's healthy, and that might keep him fresher late in the season. And perhaps most importantly, it could avoid having him feeling sore/tired when the Sox happen to have a double header, as we already saw this season. (That won't happen of course, not our style, but that's how I'd do it). It would be great if the Sox can open up a division lead, so they have more wiggle room to do that. It's going to be interesting to see how they set up the rotation after the break. Fortunately or unfortunately, Peavy and Sale could both be going to KC for the All Star Game. That could push them back. Maybe go Danks, Peavy, Sale, Humber, Floyd.

Is this team perhaps the most fun one you've watched?
flavum replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Maybe it's just all of the winning, but I think the fans are finally starting to shed their Ozzie Era skin. It's a new era and the quality of play is very good. This team has a lot of potential to be fun for the next 5 months. -
Those fans... Hand to the forehead.
-
2 hits for Trayce Thompson? Unheard of.
-
In all seriousness, if the Sox win this game and Konerko goes hitless tonight, do you give him the off day before the off day so he gets two days off? I think I would.
-
Mitchell homered. Hitting .293.
-
Well, Axelrod got knocked around after the 2nd inning.
-
Axelrod and Doyle are making a pretty good case to be in the big leagues. Just maybe not the White Sox
