Shoulder strain. Uh oh.
-
So you're telling me a clearly easy management decision back in spring training may cost the Sox a playoff spot? Cool.

QUOTE (Jake @ May 24, 2012 -> 10:34 AM) PK needs not only an MVP, but likely another ring if not more. Plus I think 500 HR is necessary. Yeah, I think 500 homers would be a starting point for his hall credentials. Add a bunch of AS Games, ALCS MVP, maybe 2 or 3 top-5 MVPs, a model citizen, a team captain. Some of the off the field stuff does matter when it comes to the Hall. But I do think he has to get to 500 homers. He has to hit 102 more for 500 hr in a Sox uniform. Tell me a Yankee that would hit 500 homers as a Yankee without PED stuff, and not make it in.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 24, 2012 -> 09:41 AM) And not only that, but he just keeps getting better. He is a marvel. I hope he stays with the Sox the rest of his career. If he can stick around and stay healthy through 2015, he may be over 500 homers in a Sox uniform, and we may be talking Hall of Fame numbers by then. That would be incredible.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 24, 2012 -> 09:37 AM) f***. 4-hit CG shutout I say he doesn't make it to the 5th inning.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 23, 2012 -> 11:24 PM) We're 1.5 games out of a playoff spot. Unless I'm missing something, mlb.com doesn't even have wildcard standings yet. I guess they're really trying to hammer home the division races. ESPN.com has wildcard standings. http://espn.go.com/mlb/standings/_/type/wild-card Baseball would be better if they just ditched the divisions, stacked all the teams, and had the top teams make the playoffs in the right order. If it's going to be 5 of 15 next year, there's really no need for 3 divisions.

This De Vries guy starting tomorrow night has a 6.27 ERA over his last 3 starts in AAA. Humber should be ok tomorrow night.

Has anyone else looked at Gordon Beckham's twitter and put 2 and 2 together and figured out he's dating Scott Fletcher's daughter? Interesting, if nothing else.
-
Orioles moved Dylan Bundy to High-A. Apparently the Sally League wasn't much of a challenge. 30 innings, 2 walks, 40 K's, 0.00 ERA

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 23, 2012 -> 10:45 AM) Radio is also much different than television. One might even say "apples and oranges". I'm talking about broadcasting the game professionally, without all the whining and constantly talking about a mediocre career from 40-50 years ago.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 23, 2012 -> 10:33 AM) Please. I have read Soxtalk when this team is losing. Silence would be an improvement over much of the garbage that gets said. Apples and oranges.

QUOTE (Reddy @ May 23, 2012 -> 10:32 AM) his whole "m.o" is to call games for the team he loves. yeah he'd like to get into the hall of fame, i'm sure. but listening to that guy, you know his heart is 110% into his work. how many of you can say the same thing? you'd rather them hire someone that doesn't give 2 s***s about the sox? To tell you the truth, I wouldn't care if the home announcer didn't live and die with each game. If he's bringing me the game professionally with interesting content, I don't care if his blood isn't boiling when things go wrong. Chance are, when they're calling 150 games a year, they're going to lean toward the team paying the salary. It's when they go over the line, and think they're part of the team on the field that I have a problem with. To give you an example of somebody that straddled the line, but didn't cross it...John Rooney. He was never a "Sox fan", but he did a great job for the Sox and most people really liked how he called the game.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 23, 2012 -> 10:11 AM) You need someone talking when the team is going bad? Do you need Vin Scully telling you Alexei Ramirez was Batman for Halloween when he was 8 years old? Hawk is a television announcer., not a radio guy. Everytime the Sox are on network TV, people are complaining about the announcers. There really isn't anyone everyone would be happy with. There's a line there when it comes to dead air on TV. When the other team walks off the Sox, I don't need much from him. The action speaks for itself. When it's innings at a time where he says very little, he's just pouting like he's on the team. He's not on the team! What I hate about him the most now is that he thinks it's The Hawk Show. He's going to ride out The Hawk Show until he's 80 or he kicks the bucket, so he can get in the broadcaster's wing of the Hall. That's his whole M.O. now.
-
I want a PBP guy that didn't play. Hawk would be so much better if he just did his schtick as a broadcaster, and not as a former player. Nobody cares about his stories of his playing days...he hasn't played a major league game in 41 years. It's not relevant or interesting, especially if they're trying to appeal to younger fans. And Hawk also needs to realize that he isn't on the team. I don't need dead air when the team is going bad because he's down in the dumps. His job is to call the game as a Sox guy, but fairly. It's just been way over the top bad the last 5-10 years.
