  1. or ever again - that money of money is not healthy for the sport and it sure hasn't been good for the Rangers I think that the only good thing to come out of the AROD deal is that it probably got most of the owners to realize that they were helping the salaries skyrocket. Now hopefully they will not make the same mistakes again.
  2. zito's numbers are just staggering 47-14 , 536ip , 430 hits , 465k's , 203 bb , 3.04 era last year 23-5 , 229ip, 182 hits , 182k's, 72bb , 2.75 era those numbers would look great if they came from a pitcher in the late 60's...wonder what it will cost to sign this guy when he becomes a free agent if he stays the course..could he get AROD money??? I truely hope that no one will get AROD money for a long time, I don't care how good they are. I just hope this market correction that we are starting to see a little bit can take hold.

I believe Beltran's agent is Scott Boras so it's not likely that we would go after him.
  4. Weather or not he was hired because of race is irrelevent, he should be fired due to incompatence.
  5. I agree it is doable, I am just not sure that it is likely to happen though.
  6. My intended point was that I can't see the Sox offering anything near that amount. While I agree that he wouldn't want to stay in Montreal the team is being sold and relocated so there would have been a lot of potential for him to be the ace pitcher in a new market. However with the uncertainty of the situation that probably wouldn't of swayed him.
  7. Our offence was third in the AL in runs scored and that was with guys like Clayton and Mark johnson on the team. We didn't need Irod. Olivo's arm is as good as Irod's and his offence has to be at least as good as Johnson's probably better. As long as he learns the finer points of the position from Alomar he should prove to be an excellent catcher, we didn't need Irod.
  8. I just read in Baseball Weekly that Omar Mineya said that the Expos were in negotiations with Colon on a long term deal before he was traded. BW said the deal was rumoured to be 4 years for about 50 million and was turned down by Colon. If this is true I really can't see him signing an extension with the Sox.
  9. He has a reputation as a bad game caller. That young pitching staff could be in trouble.

I agree that the bench could use more depth but I'm not to sure about Tony Clark, it would be nice to find someone with a little more versatility. Is VanDerwal still available?
  11. Looks like a decent veteran that could help us, another step in the right direction.
  12. With every thing he has done so far it makes me wonder what does he have to do to get fired.
  13. Not at the expense of adding bullpen help.
  14. Why don't you ever just come out and say how you really feel.
  15. A solid reliable veteren in the bullpen should be the top priority. Pitching is what wins championships.

I for one hope kw never offers Mark another deal, I don't care what the terms are. kw should be fired before he ever gets the chance.

I think our bullpen will be pretty good but it could use a solid veteren swingman. I never want to see Glover start another game for us.
  18. Well I guess I should start saving my money for a trip to Chicago just in case. I know I'm new here but I think that would be something I would just have to see.
  19. Just for the record how close would you consider close? Also can messeges on this board be considered a legaly binding contract.
  20. Dumb and numb huh? I think you may be on to something here. Some would say my optimism for this season is dumb maybe some numbness would balance me out.
  21. Very scary. I would hate to see what he would do if he ever got some outside recognition.

in the AA all star game in ' 01 , olivo's bat shattered and cork went flying everywhere..thus the nickname "corky" was born... corky olivo sound pretty cool:) its not that we who liked bradford didnt or dont like olivo...its just that in '01 we were supposedly in a win now mode and our bullpen went to s***...regaurdless of the optimism, our bullpen is shaky at best right now..we could use a chad bradford...though we can use a catcher too...i wonder if we didnt have olivo would we be seriously pursuing IROD??? Thanks for the info, and yes Corky Olivo does have a nice ring to it. I just hope HSC is right and the guy does well. As long as his defence is as adveratised and he is not a total bust offensively I'll be happy.

I haven't heard anything about a corked bat, can you fill me in?
  24. It's kind of hard to tell from that pic but he doesn't look any bigger than last year, that should be a good sign.
