  1. QUOTE(WSFAN35 @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 02:28 PM) Gload has alot smaller surface from which to draw from. He simply hasn't had the at-bats that Carl has, so there's no way you can compare those numbers. Carl is a better hitter than Gload IMO. I agree. You can skew numbers how ever you want (see what I just did comparing Santana and Halladay :rolly ). Gload has so many less atbats, and has bounced around teams like Everett has, but as a minor league FA. I'd like him to repeat last year before we name him equal to a former AS.
  2. QUOTE(qwerty @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 02:12 PM) Comparing santana's cy young season to halladay's is like comparing apples and oranges. Santana was better in nearly every category possible. Santana: 228 IP, 2.61 ERA, 1 CG, 24 HR, 66 ER, 54 BB, 265 K, 20 W (on a playoff team w/ AS closer), 1 SHO Halladay: 266 IP, 3.25 ERA, 9 CG, 26 HR, 96 ER, 32 BB, 204 K, 22 W (on a terrible team w/ no closer), 2 SHO I think it is more comparable than you made it out to be. A guy who can throw 9 CG (including a 10 inning CG IIRC) is special. Santana had a lower average against him (.192 to .247), but almost twice as many walks in less innings. The Ks are impressive though. He gives up more HR too. OBP was close as .249 to .275. That is a few base runners here and there. Halladay also faced almost 200 more batters (881 to 1071). Darst I say Santana had one more wild pitch than Halladay too (7 to 6)?
  3. QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 01:44 PM) I'm eager to read this book.. the rumors flying have been crazy!! Me too.
  4. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 02:09 PM) Am I the only one who would like to see Gload in the starting line up? I know we are paying Everett, but if Gload tears it up in ST and Everett is just so-so, can we really not start Gload? SB No and I doubt Ozzie would, but just on expectations and what has been said about Carl getting back into shape, ya have to expect him to be swinging well.
  5. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 02:00 PM) I agree that when you are talking about adding another player to the 25 man roster both $ & player availability have to be taken into consideration. Unless you have someone in mind upgrading our leadoff hitter is not an option because of player availability. Likewise most of the good MIF backups are taken. Consider what it would cost & who you are going to get to upgrade vs Crede, or Pods, or a backup for Uribe. Then consider what it would cost & who you could get to upgrade vs Adkins. Adkins will probably face more opps were the tying or winning run is at the plate than Crede, Pods, or a backup will represent the tying or winning run. Okay so what quality reliever is available? Jorge Julio? I think the same situation arises with bullpen help. I am very confident in our pen. I don't think Adkins will have to face a ton of winning runs. We have Takatsu, Marte, Vizcaino, Politte, Hermanson, and then Adkins and Cotts (I will lump them together for now). We have Wilson Valdez as backup SS, or maybe Iguchi, or maybe Harris, or maybe Crede, hell why not Everett.
  6. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 04:54 PM) I'm happy in the Keeper league. I'm going to make a thread this week and get everyone's keepers for sure and then find which team slots are opening. Note to self...read thread next time.
  7. What is going on with the keeper weekly league we had? Anyone know? Jas? I'd like to do it again.
  8. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 02:32 AM) Check out SI on Campus tomorrow. Here's an article on Krush. Poorly written, but i'll take the publicity. BTW, Kam's sucks regardless of what this article says http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/sion...0210/index.html I like the photo of the Izzone with the Lansing State Journal "Beat Illinois" papers. I found it comical.
  9. QUOTE(thomsonmi @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) Money is an issue and what I think we're talking about would be a rent-a-player type thing if we are in the playoff hunt. The kind of addition that Carl Everett and Roberto Alomar were meant to be in 2003. In other words, no real cost besides minor league talent (which I know raises a whole bunch of other concerns). But, this is the MO of KW and Jerry in those situations. Oh, I was just going by right now...we won't know about that stuff till the middle of the season comes, but going into the season we need some MIF help.
  10. QUOTE(mreye @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 01:37 PM) You just flat our refuse to get this. :headshake Was it with a 27 year old? I wish....I thought she was cute, that kid better be some bad ass...I am speechless, I never have any good looking teachers...
  11. QUOTE(thomsonmi @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 12:17 PM) Agreed Juggs, which is why I started with saying we would first be looking to add another veteran starter. Right now who plays SS barring an injury (God forbid)? Unless the reliever or starter make us that much better, than it has to be some MIF help. Money is an issue too guys.
  12. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 12:20 PM) The $102M Cub with $5M to spend are likely to trade for the Oak's Dotel. Dotel, 28, $3M(04) had 36 SVs betw Hou & Oak in 04. 50K/15W NL, 72K/18W in AL. I have to believe the price would be high to give up a power pitcher like Dotel. *Cough* Hawkins *cough* Great setup man, not as great a closer. I like Dotel though. He seems to similar to Hawkins though. What helped Dotel in Houston was the fact that Wagner was from the other side of the mound.
  13. Rodney Harrison would have given him what was coming, but he didn't actually touch the ball much. What happen Freddie, what happen?
  14. People here seem pretty excited to have Farnsworth. One of my friends said he makes their bullpen alot better...I was like haha keep him. Makes him think Urbina is going to be gone. He is bias, but has a good mind on baseball moves, just way too bias (as I am towards the Sox here!). They feel they didn't give too much up, and I constantly get told the Sox will finish behind the Tigers. On Kyle...I could see a change of scenery helping him, and I really like Alan Trammel (sp?) as a manager. I think he will be good for Farnsworth, aswell as having an actual closer in Percival and maybe Urbina helping him. Plus IRod will help him a ton. Farnsworth has had no real closer in years ahead of him. I think he will improve, but maybe not emotionally and mentally. There is hope in D-Town this year...so let's crush them!
  15. I don't know if this has been posted yet, I am sure it was mentioned awhile ago...but January 16th per Rotoworld: Rotoworld White Sox Clubhouse
  16. QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 07:24 AM) I have to imagine he would have some major incentives and bonuses....I felt Halladay had a more dominate season his Cy Young year than Johan in his, so I think he won't get more money. The Twins will get this deal done. They have to, I see them playing with their everyday players more than their pitching staff. You need atleast two top line starters to compete for the WS (who cares about the division ultimately!?!). I see a different OF, as their three make some cash and they have guys who could hold the positions okay. So, goodbye Jacque Jones by default. EDIT* - Change impressive to dominate, because I was wrong about impressive.
  17. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 11:42 AM) Look, "Timo" and "quality OFer" in the same sentence... Even I don't hold that big of a grudge, to bump this thread just for that... Steve are you really in Egypt? What for? Naw, I'm not. I usually have some random crap up on the location thing. I had Wyoming for a little while. I was in Japan once, I think I even made it to Tibet. I am still in East Lansing weeping over the loss to UI.
  18. QUOTE(ChiSoxFan @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 11:10 AM) If you paid me $14 million for less than 50 games in a year, I'd be happy to be "buried" like that. On a side note, I'm still waiting for the Trib to print KW's response. Surely they can obtain the feed from Whitesox.com. :rolly How is he suppose to feed his family on that tiny salary, geez...sometimes you guys are so mean to the poor working class. :rolly
  19. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 11:20 AM) Please read the 12/10/04 news link at MLB. Maggs was scared of never being able to play again. He contacted Thomas. Thomas put him in touch with Weil & Weil got the ball rolling for the Schraden treatment. He requested that Weil not contact the WhiteSox about anything they discussed. Now that's clear factual evidence that Maggs was not disclosing his medical status with the White Sox. Since the Sox had a Dec deadline they needed to know what that status was. If Maggs was waiting for the Sox to over arbitration then he should have asked Weil or Thomas or make the call himself to KW & let him know what was going on. I think we all can agree that trying to bluff your way to an arbitration offer is not being honest & sincere. I never knew that stuff, that makes me look at him even worse than I had been already.
  20. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 10:16 AM) I wouldn't be at all surpised to see Everett get off to a real hot start like he did with the Rangers a few seasons ago. If that happens, it could be hard to get him out of the lineup, even when Thomas comes back. If Everett is hitting and Frank is back, at first I could see Frank and him switching off days at DH til Frank is back truely to 100% and game ready, then see days off between the OFs and whoever is playing the worse. We have a very versatile OF, and I do think Carl is going to come out swinging.
  21. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 11:30 AM) LOL Ok Steff. and a jury could award damages because someone drives a red car. In the end, a law must be broken. I believe she meant within reason. Obviously you knew that. Look at Don King sueing ESPN cause they said he was a "bad guy" (gotta be careful, don't want Don King to sue me ). People are going to be pretty pissed at Canseco, and I honestly can't wait to read his book just to see what it says. I dunno how much I will take as truth or as fiction, but I look forward to iit.
  22. QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 09:04 AM) A week on the job and already it's "we"... :rolly Haha, I missed some stuff huh...Yansy as a mod, congrats....and pretty please can I join the police too?
  23. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 11:04 AM) When a player has a bad year with the bat, they are almost always called a good glove man... It's from the if-you-don't-have-anything-nice-to-say category of baseball cliches. I have never had this problem... Pods defense is like Jose Valentin. You're going to have a wide range of opinions. Some will say he's great because he makes diving catches, negelecting to see him take two steps back before breaking in on the ball. Others, will say he gets bad jumps, and should be put at a less demanding defensive position. All I know for sure is Aaron Rowand is almost universally regarded as a very good CF, and Pods is not. That is why he is better off in LF. I think if Carl gets hitting, we'd have to have him in the OF, and it is nice though that Podsednik can play CF if we need, as we have four quality OFs, as well as Willie and Timo if need be.
