  1. Baylor up 7 on Kansas under 4 minutes left.
  2. It's officially March. Creighton blows a 22-point lead to Wichita State to fall behind on a 3-pointer with 9 seconds left but makes a shot to win at the buzzer. Creighton advances and probably should get an at-large bid even if they don't win the final. Now the Redbirds take the court and show everyone how basketball is meant to be played.
  3. Bradley was just taking it to SIU the last few minutes of that half. SIU is gonna need a comeback in the 2nd half to extend their season.
  4. 73-69 Northern Iowa survives a scare from Indiana State.
  5. QUOTE (Felix @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 10:15 PM) Or they rush the court because their chances of making the tournament are dramatically higher, assuming they hold their own in the Big Ten Tournament. Agreed. At first I thought wtf are they doing? Then I realized it's Penn State and they haven't been to the tournament in almost 10 years. With a win over Iowa I think they're in. Lose to Iowa and they better win 1 or 2 in the BTT.
  6. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 5, 2009 -> 10:03 PM) I actually think that's the smart play on the road in the big ten. I don't think it's Weber's fault that his players allowed the smallest guy to drive the length of the court, get in the paint, and throw up a lay up to win the game. Or that their free throw woes from last year showed up again.
  7. It's hard for me to choose between Gob, Tobias, and Buster in Arrested Development. Others that I don't think have been mentioned... Borat in Da Ali G Show Bill Haverchuck in Freaks and Geeks David Brent in The Office (UK) Andy Bernard in The Office (US) Eric in Undeclared

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 01:38 PM) I thought Tim Burton was connected to that movie, but after researching it, it appears that he isn't. Either way, this movie really smacks of Tim Burton. And honestly, Tim Burton and his pictures creep me the f*** out and give me an uneasy feeling. Yeah, that's what I had thought too. Apparently, the director also directed The Nightmare Before Christmas, which I had always thought Burton directed, but he just wrote and produced it.

Jo Bros. But seriously, Coraline is the only movie playing that I kinda want to see but I haven't had the chance to see it yet.
  10. 19/24 with my predictions I posted in the films thread. Not really surprising though this year was pretty predictable. I only missed the 3 shorts categories, Sound Editing, and Foreign Film. As for the worthiness/unworthiness of the winners, you have to remember this is the Academy that we're talking about here. These are the people who never gave Hitchcock an Oscar, did not give Kubrick anything but 1 Oscar for visual effects, and did not give Citizen Kane Best Picture along with many other things that appear laughable now. I personally thought they did pretty well the last two years rewarding Scorsese and the Coens but I guess they were just due for another let down. I don't think Slumdog will be looked back upon as a great film 5-10 years from now. But of the nominees the only two I liked more were Milk and The Reader. I think that those 2 along with The Wrestler, The Dark Knight, and WALL-E will all withstand the test of time better than Slumdog.

My predictions for tonight. One of the things worth mentioning is the Best Actor race where I think Rourke is the favorite to win but I've been saying Penn for a few weeks and if I switch it now and Penn wins I'll be pissed. If Rourke wins I won't be upset at all because I think he'll give a better speech in what otherwise should be a dull show and I also think Penn is on record as actually hoping that Rourke wins. I went and predicted a Slumdog sweep even in the sound categories where it is not favored to win over The Dark Knight and WALL-E. I also think it may be vulnerable to splitting the vote in Best Song allowing "Down to Earth" to win. Other close categories to watch: Actress, Supporting Actress, Original Screenplay, Documentary, Foreign Language Best Motion Picture of the Year The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Frost/Nixon Milk The Reader *Slumdog Millionaire* Best Acheivement in Directing The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Frost/Nixon Milk The Reader *Slumdog Millionaire* Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role Richard Jenkins in The Visitor Frank Langella in Frost/Nixon *Sean Penn in Milk* Brad Pitt in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role Anne Hathaway in Rachel Getting Married Angelina Jolie in Changeling Melissa Leo in Frozen River Meryl Streep in Doubt *Kate Winslet in The Reader* Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role Josh Brolin in Milk Robert Downey Jr in Tropic Thunder Philip Seymour Hoffman in Doubt *Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight* Michael Shannon in Revolutionary Road Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role Amy Adams in Doubt *Penelope Cruz in Vicky Cristina Barcelona* Viola Davis in Doubt Taraji P. QUOTE (Sockin @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 09:20 PM) Rourke actually won a BAFTA today, which are the British version of the Academy Awards and is the best predictor on who will win the Oscar. And yes, Ledger is a lock for sure. Yep, I just saw that. Still...it's not a lock by any means. It's basically a flip of a coin now between Penn and Rourke. Rourke won the Globe and BAFTA. Penn won the SAG and Critics' Choice.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 7, 2009 -> 04:19 PM) I wouldn't say that Ledger is a lock. Rourke is more of a lock, I'd say. I respectfully disagree. Ledger has won almost every award known to mankind this year. If he does not win the Oscar it will be one of the biggest snubs ever and I would feel sorry for whoever were to beat him...awkward. Rourke, on the other hand, has only won the Golden Globe. If anything I would give the edge to Penn right now but I definitely think Rourke has a good chance. I might even throw Langella in the argument as well. Also, I watched The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford again last night and it reminded me why I feel 2007 was a better year for films than 2008. I'm not saying that 2008 didn't have a lot of good films because it did but nothing that matched my favorites from 2007. No Country for Old Men The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford The Diving Bell and the Butterfly Into the Wild There Will Be Blood 4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days These are some of my favorites not just of 2007 but of all-time. The only movies from 2008 that come close to matching these are Milk and The Wrestler. Like a said, there are many more good ones from 2008 (The Dark Knight, WALL-E, Slumdog Millionaire, Doubt) but nothing that I would rank among my favorites of all-time.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Feb 7, 2009 -> 01:04 PM) The Oscars will be interesting this year, the predictions keep changing and seem to be all over the place. I don't know about that. Slumdog seems to be a lock for Picture, Director, and Adapted Screenplay. Heath Ledger is a lock for Supporting Actor. I guess that the other acting races are pretty open though. Penn vs. Rourke, Winslet vs. Streep, and Supporting Actress I have no idea.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 07:30 PM) A lot of terrible actors continue to get plenty of work. The fact that they continue getting hired says nothing about their talent, but plenty about the American public's awful taste. So, do you honestly think his work in American Psycho and The Machinist was bad? If so...I would like to know who would have done better with those roles. Also, you are comparing him to 2 of the best actors around (PSH and DDL). Not a whole lot of actors can do what they do. I admitted he is not the best of the best but he certainly is not a bad actor. I would say is is above average at what he does. He's also very dedicated to his work. He lost 60 pounds for the Machinist then had to play Batman just months later and gained 100 pounds for that. If he is good enough for movie people like Roger Ebert, Christopher Nolan, and Werner Herzog then I would like to know what makes you say he is bad actor. Do they have awful taste as well?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 06:15 PM) I enjoyed 3:10 to Yuma. So did I. I don't understand why Bale is getting so much crap around here. Do I think he's one of the greatest actors of our time? No. But he is certainly not bad. I would say his work in American Psycho and The Machinist is his best. Next, I would say he was good in Rescue Dawn, Yuma, and The Prestige. Then, you have the 2 Batmans and I'm Not There which weren't his best performances but neither of which took away from my enjoyment of the movie. And people in the film industry obviously think he is alright because he continues to get pretty good work. I can't wait to see Public Enemies.
  19. Illinois recovers to win against Iowa after a tough/ugly first half. It's gonna be tough at Wisconsin. They are desperate for a win.
  20. First of all, get the quote right if you are going to make this argument. Michelle said, "For the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country." She never said that she was not proud to be an American. Also, the quote is out of context and if you look at it she is obviously speaking about being proud that Americans have overcome so much in the last 40 years to be able to have real hope of electing an black man President. At least pick something a little more substantial to be upset with the Obamas than one sentence that was uttered half a year ago. Finally, as the late great Bill Hicks said, "I was over in Australia and I was asked, 'are you proud to be an American?' And I was like, 'I didn't have a lot to with it you know. My parents f***ed there. That's about all.'"

Here's a link explaining exactly what The Room is and why it has become so popular. Unfortunately, it's not available on Netflix and you may have to buy it on Amazon to see it. You won't regret it though. Get a group of friends together for a viewing and it will be one of the most enjoyable movie experiences you can have. http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20246031,00.html
