  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 11:49 PM) Why do they want Reed if they are happy with Benoit then? You can never have too many bullpen arms. It still doesn't clinch a pennant.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 11:42 PM) Are the Royals contenders or pretenders? Win the first two vs. the Tigers. If they sweep and cut it to five do they have a chance? Or are they still the Royals? I think they answered your question today. That James Shields trade is gonna bite them in the ass.
  3. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 10:25 PM) She's 18, will be 19 in September. I just turned 23 a couple weeks ago. And I get the slowing down thing, like I said, I too am not ready to date this girl either, I just didn't want to disappoint her, so I rushed myself in to it for her benefit. Obviously I f***ed up because I read that situation wrong. I did text her a couple days ago telling her what happened, and how I messed up and I told her I am sorry for misreading in to it. I've been very openly sorry about what happened, and I am 100% ready to be back to normal. She, however, is the one who seems to be still stuck or "freightened" as you put it. Our texting is very far and few between, maybe 10-15 texts a day, and it's because I have to start every conversation. A large part of me wants to just "ignore" her in a way so it doesn't sound like I am being pushy, but the other part of me has overheard her telling someone she loves when guys give her attention, so I don't want her to think I no longer care. It's tough. And another factoid I should mention is that I go back to college in 3-4 weeks. It's the reason I need to LOCK THIS s*** DOWN before I go away, because once I am 3 hours away, it will be a miracle if I can get her on board then. So I am thinking I really got about 2 weeks here to seal the deal before she will start telling herself "Ah, well he is leaving anyway, it's not worth it". The only good news here is that I graduate in December, so it will only be 4 months away, and my best friend has already told her that he will drive her down for a weekend whenever she wants to see me and party and whatnot. I've been out of the game for a while, but I think you should just back away from her now. You will be gone for 5 months for college, she's barely 19 so she's not about to leave and marry somebody tomorrow. Enjoy your last semester at school and worry about it when you get back. From your descriptions of her, it doesn't sound like you already think she is the one, play it slowly.
  4. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 05:48 PM) A lot of American born Salvadorans picked the wrong team to root for tonight. Always fun winning "road" matches on US soil. I will never forget the WC qualifier I went to at Soldier Field in 2009. Honduras scored the first goal and it was louder than any Bears game I have ever been to.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 07:28 PM) Yet Keppinger and Gillaspie combined don't equal the team's terrible OBP. You win with pitching and power. No question it help with more guys on base, but they won it all with the 11th ranked OBP in the AL, because they hit homers aand pitched.Get a couple of guys who hit homers, hopefully Viciedo finds his power stroke, Beckham's wrist should be fully recovered, and the home runs return. The Sox have had a power outage this season. The 2005 team only playing small ball and not depending on homers is one of the biggest myths in White Sox history.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 08:05 PM) From my vantage point, all Detroit needs is a better bullpen to put this season in the championship bag. Yes, I think Mr. Automatic, Addison Reed, would give them an automatic WS berth this season where they'd beat the NL entry. Reed is pretty damn automatic. Detroit's current closer is 8 for 8 in saves and was 9 for 9 in holds. Reed is 24 for 28 in saves. Yet Reed is the one who is pretty damn automatic and clinches a guaranteed pennant?
  7. I was always frugal with my cell phone purchases, but finally decided to treat myself. I bought the Samsung Galaxy S4 and my life will never be the same.
  8. I guess better him then one of the players they are looking to trade.
  9. This ending could be epic. So many big names, so easy to have one bad hole with the nasty bunkers and thick rough.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 06:16 PM) WTF? If there's one thing a contending team wants, it's...prospects from the white sox system? Would a rebuilding team even want any White Sox prospects right now?
  11. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 01:44 PM) http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/story/_...-lawsuit-report Sounds legit to me.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 06:20 PM) I note that the actual key piece in the Tex deal, Saltalamaccia, you left out because he busted. The Rangers turned out because they got a bunch of lower level pieces for him and each of them has done decent, but hell...Andrus, Feliz, and Holland, I wouldn't be happy with that return for an actual ace pitcher. I agree. With Sale's contract, that would be a bad trade for the Sox. (And it was Matt Harrison, not Derek Holland)
  13. Can the Sox just be moved to the NL? They would make the playoffs every yaer
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 02:59 PM) I would question if this was going to hurt the clubhouse, but they have played all year like a broken team anyways. Hopefully Rios hits 4 homers today. How about a 4-run homer?
  15. Congrats to all three of you!!!
  16. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 06:44 AM) No, but in 1964 he did have a two homer game against the Yankees that Whitey Ford started. The first one was off Ford. Cut the guy some slack, it was 49 years ago. Who cares if he doesn't remember the details 100% accurately. It just makes it hard to believe his other stories when you know he embellishes some of his baseball stories, because that's not the first time he has been busted on it. Either way, I did enjoy the documentary, what a cooky bastard.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 10:13 PM) What was your favorite memory of the Hanson era? MMMBOP!
  18. According to BBREF, Hawk never hit two homers in a game off Whitey Ford like he claimed in the intro. Not the first time his baseball stories have been disproven.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 03:37 PM) You say, 'then they invest the required money in players to keep their fans interested.' I'm saying fans would be more interested if they JUST SAY NO to mega, multi-year contracts for guys who fail miserably shortly after signing the contracts. When Adam Dunn is hitting about .160 and Rios is loafing after fly balls you start to wonder how much better life would be as a fan if they were not making all that money. Maybe I could park for 5 bucks and not spend 30 bucks on three beers in a nine-inning game. So you would be happier if Travis Ishikawa was hitting about .160 & Casper Wells was loafing after fly balls, because they only make $500,000? That be a better experience for a fan?
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 03:32 PM) Detroit is also one of the best offensive teams in baseball, so his giving up more runs against them vs someone like Minnesota isn't really a surprise. God forbid he shuts down the Sox' rival in the heat of a pennant race.
  21. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 03:20 PM) Will there be pressure on him these next few weeks? QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 01:57 PM) No pressure or anything, but we really need him to be good for two starts. Only if he reads Soxtalk..
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 02:35 PM) I just want to keep repeating it over and over and over until somebody notices! But I'm saying there should NOT be the demand. I keep reading about guys who are "untradeable." These guys are the ones fans and owners were drooling over shortly before they became untradeable. JUST SAY NO. Don't sign guys to long-term deals and maybe I can go sit in a box seat for 20 f***ing dollars and not have to pay 20 bucks to park!!!! And not pay 15 bucks for an All American hot dog and beer! Baseball was not invented as an elitist game, folks. There are hundreds of parks all over the country with cheap tickets & free parking & $1 hot dogs. It's called minor league baseball. If you are so concerned about the financial aspect, then just root for a minor league team, screw the big leagues.
  23. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 02:01 PM) Aug 31 vs. DET - 6 IP, 6 ER Sep 5 vs MIN - 6 IP, 1 ER Sep 11 vs DET - 5.2 IP, 3 ER Sep 16 vs MIN - 6 IP, 2 ER Sep 21 vs LAA - 5 IP, 5 ER Your stats are skewed by his last two starts when there was no pressure anymore. He struggled vs. DET when it mattered, then when the Sox needed a win vs. LA, he gave up runs early.
  24. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 01:57 PM) No pressure or anything, but we really need him to be good for two starts. We all know how well he did under pressure last summer...
  25. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 01:10 PM) Totally agree. That seems to be the plan and I like it. Does anybody think Hawk is right when he says that baseball will eventually head back to 4 man rotations, considering today's pitchers are bigger, stronger and more athletic than their predecessors? That makes sense at a purely physical level but I wonder if the current investments in these pitchers prevents that from ever happening. I'm sure there are some good points for both sides. There seems to be new ways of thinking with throwing too. It's either the Orioles or D-Backs who are incorporating long distance throws into their pitchers' workout regimens. While they realize a pitcher can throw too much, I think they are starting to realize that babying a pitcher's arm isn't always the best approach either.
