  1. QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 06:13 PM) If we trade Jenks, Chad Cordero could be a cheap option. Just a thought, I know he has really struggled but he has proven he can close games. Dude weak...
  2. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 05:52 PM) If the Sox traded Jenks, I wonder if they would make a run at K-Rod or Fuentes possibly? Good point but i think krod would be too expensive and really wasnt that good last year. Fuentes could be a possibility but i cant see the sox winning the bidding war there will be for him. How about taking a chance on a guy like chad cordero though. Hes one year removed from a 37 save season and would be great buy low guy if his arm is ok. Im exactly sure if it is though so if anyone has any info on him plz share.
  3. If we could trade jenks for some a legit mlb ready prospect or a package built around one we should jump on it like uribe on a sizzler buffet. The save is the most overrated stat in baseball. Im not saying that it is easy to find a closer but i feel it would be easier to find a closer than to draft talent that we could receive in that kind of a deal. Maybe we could give poreda a shot at closing out of the gate. Papelbon was supposed to be a starter, and he came into the bullpen almost right away and did great. It could work, thornton could give it a shot, or dotel was a closer at one point. I think it would be stupid to just say no automatically about trading jenks for some kind of mlb prospect or a package that would make us faster younger and better all around for many years to come.
  4. Penny/Pavano might be a good idea but it has been said that penny is a bad work ethic guy, which is something we dont need. Anyone know if pavano is actually healthy?
  5. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 01:04 PM) Cora is getting closer and closer to a job it seems. He wasn't suited for the 3B role obviously, but I think he's done pretty well as the bench coach. He'd be hard to replace there. I think valentines got a shot, id hope he could excape from the black hole which is managing in japan.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 12:03 PM) If he's on the White Sox, almost certainly, yes he will be in RF. Prior to this season, Quentin had rarely played LF in his entire career, and playing LF is an entirely different beast than playing RF. I think Quentin would be just fine in RF. Hell, from what I saw of Quentin in LF, he looked like he had pretty good range in LF and just missed a few balls. Playing right and left are very similar. They have the same amount of ground they have to cover unless certain fields have a different amount of foul territory on one side of the field for one thing. Also ball hit to them are the same it just depends on the hitter. For example when a lefty hits the ball down the left field linei t will tail, it will do the same thing down the right field line for a righty. By no stretch of the imagination are either easy to play, as unlike cf it is harder to judge balls because you are not looking straight at the hitter. So it isnt easy to play to play corner outfield but it is very similar for each one, its just a matter of having your mind think the opposite way in regards to the hitters orientation.
  7. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 09:55 AM) He’s more than acceptable. Poor defense can be compensated for, Dye does it with his bat. However, I think the ideal situation would be to move Q to right, and Dye to left. Dye defensive deficiencies would be far less evident if this move was made. That doesnt make sense right and left fielders cover about the same amount of ground the only difference is that rf should always have the better arm because his throw to third is longer. Dye has a clearly better arm than anyone else in our of
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 08:15 AM) So out of curiousity, I know that the old story goes that you really can't throw both a curve and a slider. Does anyone know if the cutter is compatable with the slider? Any chance of Poreda picking up the cutter to go with his pitches? Im sure this is a possiblitlity. Having a mid to upper ninties fastball and a low to mid ninetie cutter would greatly help his effectiveness. It would be compatible because it would used in situations. Being able to throw sliders away from lefties and cutters in on righties would be very effective in my opinion, especially with the movement he gets on a good fastball.

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Oct 25, 2008 -> 05:34 PM) I don't think this team needs another outfielder that is a defensive liability. Before this year where he saw limited action he always had a very good range factor. He led the league in 2004 for cf. Why cant he overcome this mitochondrial stuff and do it again?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 25, 2008 -> 04:56 PM) I have no idea what any of this means. All I know is we don't need to add another OF, we need to be subtracting Of's to fill another hole. Ha sorry arbitrary friday night lights quote. I agree but if/when griffeys long gone id rather have him in center than swish or bander. Hed be relatively cheap and bring some speed to the lineup, thats it. Edit: I thought hed be low risk because he did show he could play this year and with his history i cant see him being very expensive or having the right to ask for a lot of years thats why . Sure theres risk involved but not that high imo.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 25, 2008 -> 03:47 PM) Can he play SS/2b? ss/2b he can run with it catch it return o yea and he can throw it too...o wait thats boobie miles.
  12. If i were to write up a petition and send it in to K Dubs to sign my favorite Rhode Islander, sorry paulie, would anyone sign it? OR would i have to go Chicago style and forge a bunch of dead peoples signatures? Hes only twenty seven and hed be pretty low risk, unless something has changed in his contract/free agent status i think hed be a good option to see how spring training goes and maybe get a shot in center and perhaps bat second.
  13. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Oct 24, 2008 -> 08:04 AM) Understatement. Weeks is the worst defensive 2B in the league. I didnt know Dan Uggla had an account here...zing
  14. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 10:23 AM) Now, that Donny Lucy has gone the way of the dinorsaur. I'd love to see the Sox get a decent catching prospect either through a trade or in next years draft. I have it on good authority the sox are trying to make the catcher they drafted out of isu their next catcher. I cant recall his name now but hes a lefty hitter who didnt do too well at rookie ball but hes young and has a lot of potential.
  15. You can say that a lot of teams have troubles with closers and thats fine, almost fathomable in fact. but, im under the impression that with every team with a s*** closer theres some guy like kevin gregg or george sherril who put together very good seasons with no precedent of closing it is a mental thing and very easy if your not an idiot. (Billy wagner is an idiot )
  16. HAHA this is awesome, but it would have happened about 5 years ago if he wasnt the son of a major league coach
  17. If we could get anything good for jenks we should jump at it. Closers are the most overrated players in dare i say all of sports. It proves the point that someone like jj putz or byung yung kim can have big save seasons. Any major league pitcher should be able to get three outs. If we got rid of jenks someone on this team could do it, maybe thornton. This is why this krod for mvp thing drives me nuts. He has gotten way more opportunities to get these saves, and how hard is it really to get three outs in a lot of those games which they were up by three or two runs?
  18. not trying to flame here but wats chicago football without blizzard or raining conditions its part of our edge
  19. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 08:30 PM) Ventura to radio would be amazing. Keep him away from Hawk though, he would just constantly suck up to Robin during games. What if we hired carl yastremski to jus sit in the booth and not say a word, and put ventura next to him... Would hawks head explode, and if so would DJ be able to continue the broadcast covered in hawks brain juices...ideas?
  20. I know that any way you slice it the road to the world series is most likely gonna go through anaheim. I know momentum is only as good as your next starting pitcher but i think if we could beat up on a young inexperienced team in their first playoff run in their existence, that would mean a lot going into a possible alcs with the angels. But, either way i have confidence in our guys hopefully theyll keep this hot streak or get hot right as they head into the playoffs, because its almost always the hottest team at the start of the playoffs that wins it.
  21. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 10:37 PM) I thought Ricky Vaughn had that record secured for a long time. Give em the heater Ricky......actually despite a common misconception Ebby "Nuke" Laloosh has the most wild pitches with 16 in one game. He also struck out 16 in that game and hit the mascot.
  22. I would not be very comfortable with winnning the wild card. If we do we probably play the angels in the first round which would be a lot tougher than playin the rays. I know the rays are doing so well but with the injuries and all id rather face them even if we had to play the first two in tampa.
  23. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 19, 2008 -> 01:27 PM) But he throws a knuckleball. How many of our guys have faced someone like him beofre? I'd say there's about as good of a chance that our offense lays an egg against him as there is they light him up for 10+ runs. Yea but didnt he just set the modern day record for most wild pitches in an inning?
  24. R.A. Dickey is starting tomorrow...Hes uh, not good.
