2014 FIFA World Cup
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 11:46 AM) But the US made the knockout round as hosts. Only South Africa hasnt. Yeah I realized that and edited it. I was thinking of 98.

2014 FIFA World Cup
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 10:56 AM) They were hosts in 2002 and every host gets to the knockout round. So yeah, there's been basically one WC ever where Asian teams have done much of anything. Except South Africa.

Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 06:57 PM) Me either? I think Microsoft made a LOT of horrible decisions under Bamler, but purposefully trying to get people to stop using their products wasn't one of them. I believe Microsoft is in much better hands now. Aside from that, Android L *finally* looks like an OS I can take seriously, and no, I couldn't take previous versions seriously, as I personally believe they had horrendous UIs (and apparently Google agreed with me hence the change). Are you sure you're talking about Android 4.4 and not Android 2.3? Here's a comparison of what's visually different: http://www.androidbeat.com/2014/06/android...ual-comparison/ Android L does look nice. I tried out the preview yesterday. None of the Google Apps are updated yet, but the stock apps look decent. The animations a bit more fluid, which is nice. It's also using ART as the default runtime instead of Dalvik, which might be why.

2014 FIFA World Cup
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 06:53 AM) If they're going to keep inviting Asia to the World Cup, they are going to need to give them a one man advantage for all 90 minutes every game. Maybe then they will do better than 0-9-3. That's what makes it even more remarkable that 3 CONCACAF teams advanced, since none of them got free points by being in a group with an Asian team. You can say that Mexico had a somewhat easy draw with Cameroon and Croatia, but they got a point off the hosts so they clearly earned their way through, and the US and Costa Rica survived absolutely loaded groups. Korea and Japan had success in past world cups. Both qualified for the knockout round in 2010 and 2002. They were just awful this time around.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 09:21 PM) So is randolph to cut the salary, or does that just further indicate McBuckets is being brought in to be Melo, not play with Melo. Probably the latter.

We got Anthony Randolph too.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 09:12 PM) I'm not a huge fan of Shabazz, honestly. Seems like the typical undersized guard that goes off in college and is forgotten as a pro He's an undersized chucker.

Napier to Charlotte. Hopefully he's not getting traded to Miami. Napier will now play with Kemba. Cool.

Algeria ties it. Keep going. Korea's got a one man advantage, they have to score at least once right?

2014 FIFA World Cup
If Algeria and South Korea win, the US will play Algeria next week. I'd much rather have that than Belgium.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 02:53 PM) The world's smartest gm because the only way it happens is to get Lebron. Pretty much. But what if he pulls the deal off and then LeBron decides he's better off elsewhere? Plus, if you're LeBron, do you seriously think Melo's a better option than Harden? Harden's younger and he's a better long-range shooter. Plus he's a natural 2, unlike Carmelo, who's a 3.

2014-2015 NBA thread
So how stupid would Morey be to trade Harden for Melo straight up? I don't even think Melo's that much better than Harden, if at all.

2014 FIFA World Cup
I think a lot of people in this thread had the US moving on originally. So for them, it's not a huge surprise I guess. I was not expecting us to win a game, honestly. I had two draws and a loss and that was my optimistic outlook. And umm...Michael Bradley...that was a really bad game from him. The field conditions were bad, but everyone had to deal with it and not everyone was having the ball pop up on them like Bradley.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 12:59 PM) Meh, I'd say like a 4 or 5. Us and Portugal were very close for most likely to grab that 2nd spot out of this group. A healthy Ronaldo would have made a huge difference. Fortunately for us, Ronaldo played pretty badly.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 12:55 PM) So I know nothing about soccer, but on a scale of 1-10, how surprising is it that the US advanced? 1 being not at all, 10 being shocked beyond belief. A 6? 7? I think it's like a 8 or a 9. We had maybe a 35% chance of getting out of the group at the start.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 10:52 AM) WRONG. Afflalo (unless this is a 3 team deal) can not be traded again until December under the terms of the CBA. Damn. Stupid new CBA.

2014-2015 NBA thread
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 10:48 AM) So you are basically saying, lets just get Afflalo and not even try for Melo. Not necessarily. Afflalo could also be used in another deal. You're not stuck with him. In fact, he's probably one of the best trade chips in the NBA right now. Good player on a cheap and short contract. This is what I mean when I say the Bulls' FO has no creativity. They're so focused on a certain path that they don't see other possibilities opening up.

2014-2015 NBA thread
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 10:45 AM) Honestly, for the 2010 and 2014 FA classes (assuming they strike out again), i'm really not sure what you want the Bulls to do. If Noah and Rose are untradeable, nothing else on the roster is as good as what other teams have to offer. It's just not. What would you have them do? You can scap the entire team to sign Melo to a max deal and he could still stay in NY for more money. What assets do the Bulls have that would be better than what the Warriors are reportedly offering for Love? Should they pull and Isaiah and start trading away the next 2-3 1st rounders? I'm already assuming they'll strike out, which is why passing on Afflalo in a deal they could have easily topped seems like a missed opportunity.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 10:43 AM) Which is why we can't get mad about this move. I think Bulls / Orlando could have worked out a better deal and Bulls were probably willing but they couldn't do a trade now. I'm not about to start with Plan C. I think our front office feels very good about Melo. I am very nervous about Houston and Dallas and the lack of state income taxes in Texas though. I bet they felt real good about LeBron 4 years ago too.
