Sox at Pirates 6-15-10 game thread 6:05 first pitch
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 08:17 PM) Not a very good game for our 3-4 hitters. Two straight hitless games for them. We might start seeing some regression by Rios soon.

I wish we had Carrasco back. Although that might have meant no Sergio Santos, or better yet, no Randy Williams.

The Official Stephen Strasburg needs Tommy John Thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 07:55 PM) Pedro did his thing at the peak of the steroid era. Pedro's '98-2000 > Ubaldo's '10 He put up 12 WAR that year (1999) and had a FIP of 1.39, about .7 runs lower than his ERA. There's no way in hell Ubaldo puts those numbers up. What's funny is that Pedro wasn't all that lucky that year (.343 BABIP) and he still owned. He also posted a WAR of 10 in the year where he posted a 1.74 ERA.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 08:00 PM) And that's why that stat can be deceptive. Beckham has hit just a million weak choppers to the pitcher and right side this season. He probably hasn't hit more than 20 line drives all season. 25 line drives actually. We'll never know how hard he's hitting those grounders, but truth is, once the sample gets large enough, it'll even itself out. There's always the luck factor in all of this. We know there is a good amount of ground balls that go for hits even though they're nothing but little choppers. Look what Beckham's done today with those.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 07:55 PM) He has? When you don't hit the ball hard, it's not really bad luck. Rios is definitely our tough luck hitter. His LD% is barely lower than what it was last year and he's got a .250 BABIP. That's bad luck. Plus, he's hitting far more ground balls this year, and those usually go for a higher average than fly balls.

Beckham's been getting some really lucky hits this game. He needs it, he's been having just terrible luck all year.

I hope he gets through this inning and then Ozzie can take his ass out. He's been lucky to this point.

Peavy Comparison
QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 01:44 PM) On the flip side it's also worth noting that Danks has a 4.16 xFIP vs. his 3.27 ERA. Buehrle and Garcia are performing more or less at the level they should be so I wouldn't exactly say the pitching is set for a "big hot streak". Buehrle's xFIP is in the low 4s and Garcia's is 4.8. Buehrle's going to end up with a ERA near 4 at the end and Garcia seems to be a 4.8 ERA guy. Peavy and Floyd have a lot left in them IMO. And with our hitters hitting like such crap, it's only normal that they would start hitting better down the line or progression to the mean.

Heyman: KW wants to fire Ozzie
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 11:27 AM) I don't think it's wrong to defend a WS hero when somebody is mocking him for what? Having a bad back. It's not his fault he has a bad back. What's wrong with sticking up for a hero? The World Series is uh, a big deal. He was kidding and it was funny. You take players from that 05 team far, far, far too seriously.

Heyman: KW wants to fire Ozzie
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 11:44 PM) I assume this is a joke. I would think it was. Since it wasn't in green ... Crede didn't ask to have back trouble. I hope you never have back trouble. I have a friend who needed back surgery and the doctor f***ed it up and he has to use a cane at the age of 34. Crede didn't ask for his back to fall apart. If Crede was a Cub, he'd be like Santo to their fan base. He was a KEY FACTOR in us winning it all. Cubdom would worship him. So with this logic, since you worship Crede and suggest that Cubdom would also worship Crede, that means you're a Cubs fan?

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 05:05 PM) He'd probably start off strong, and then have to take a Leave of Absence when his back hurts him in July. lmao, they gotta move a couch into the dugout for him.
