The game we really need to win is game two. Buehrle's pitching in that one against a struggling pitcher in Blackburn, who gave up like 6 runs to the Rays in 1.2 innings the other day. Slowey and Baker have been their 2nd and 3rd best pitchers respectively lately. I wouldn't bank on victories in those two games. We'll just see what happens I guess. I don't have the most confidence, but if we just pull out one game, we'll be in okay shape.

Vazquez fails to grow any kind of balls again. Watch him get lit up tomorrow. If he does, Ozzie is going to have a fit and it'll be bye-bye Javy in 2009. I can just see it all happening. Javy needs to stop being an arrogant idiot and realize that he messes around way too damn much. I don't know if that's his fault or the catcher's fault. But tomorrow, I don't want to see him shaking of A.J. and trying to get cute when he has the batter by the throat. The way our pitchers go about their business after getting ahead disgusts me. Outside of Buehrle, all of our pitchers nibble like a mouse with a big fat block of cheese.

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 21, 2008 -> 04:13 PM) Vazquez is 2-0 against Min this season, although our offense had to pick him up. We have hit Baker pretty well as well. We'll see. I like how our pitchers match up. I'm still kind of surprised Gardy didn't push Liriano back a day. Javy has always done well against the Twins.

The main idea of the whole series is to win one game and be done with it. It'll be nice to take two, but you have to win at least one. Then you can take care of business back home and win 2/3 from the Indians and hope that the Twins lose one of their games to the Royals.

I just noticed a weird trend. It is a small sample size so far. But... On Sundays, when the Bears lose, the Sox win. And vice versa.

Thanks a bunch. I wish I had better PS skills.

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 03:37 PM) The Dirty .230 Ozzie said something along those lines when Swisher did the lineup intros for Fox. If I'm not mistaken, I think tomorrow's game might be on Fox. It's a 2:55 start.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 08:49 PM) They'll pay him...if they'll pay Livan Hernandez and Sidney Ponson and Ramon Ortiz any amount of money, they'll pay a legitimate 3Bman money too. Livan isn't getting $13 million this year.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 04:16 PM) Reminds me of Palehose 6 with Capn Hand, Rock and Baines as the mast figurehead. I was just looking at that today. Harold; the quiet one. -
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 04:31 PM) Yeah, considering what the price would be, I'd take Blanton as well. The Blanton that shut us down or the Blanton that has 12 losses?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 03:34 PM) I was saying the same thing at home, I have no idea why he took him out. Masset is clearly the fill in guy if one of our starters goes down, he has been GREAT. He was bad against Oakland and Cleveland on the home stand. But, he's been real good on the roadtrip, especially yesterday. He got out of that tough situation Contreras left for him in the 5th and pitched really well. The two guys we got for McCarthy: Danks and Masset really showed Rangers fans and organization something.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 03:39 PM) Where is this on WSI? I can't seem to find it. At What's the Score. Thread is called, "Sox might acquire all-star pitcher" or something like that.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 03:36 PM) I'm thinking that they'll deal Fields and convert Beckham to 3B. And go third base-less next season?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 03:30 PM) Got to like a guy with a 1.82 ERA as a starter. He's a very proven reliever but another question that pops up (Question #3) is how he will handle all these innings. He missed a good chunk of last season with injuries and has never went more than 96 innings at the major league level (prior to this season). Maybe that's what Billy's thinking. He has a reason for all of his deals.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 03:25 PM) I'd guess something along the lines of Poreda and Shelby, as well as Broadway/Egbert/Soxtalk.com Hey, if we can get ourselves another ace, I'd risk this website! Wouldn't you?

QUOTE (VAfan @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 03:08 PM) I can't believe Ozzie claiming in the Trib today that "Anybody who pitched in this big-league game should be embarrassed," manager Ozzie Guillen said in a calm tone." The fact is that one pitcher did quite well. Nick Masset. He entered in the 5th after Jose had put the first two runners on. He retired the next three hitters without letting anyone score, then pitched a perfect 6th inning. He had used only 20 pitches. Yet, for some bizarre reason, Ozzie Guillen replaced him with pitchers who proceeded to squander the game. That, to me, shows that Ozzie deserves the most blame for yesterday's loss. Sure, Konerko sucked big time. 0-for-6, 9 runners left on. Swung at ball 4, then let strike 3 go by at the end. Truly pathetic. But you could at least argue that he wasn't in control of the situation, whereas Ozzie was. Nick Masset can only go 20 pitches the day before a 4-day break? What kind of nonsense is that? He'd let DJ Carrasco pitch 5-1/3 at Texas just two nights before. Why not let Masset pitch until the Rangers hit him hard, which they never did. What the hell use is a "long reliever" if you only use him for a 2-inning max? My question is, WHY THE HELL DID OZZIE TAKE HIM OUT THEN? Outside of the bad clutch hitting and the terrible pitching of Logan, Contreras, and Russel, that was the worst part of the entire game yesterday.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 03:08 PM) Saw this over at WSI and figured I'd post it over here. It would be very interesting and the Sox/A's obviously have a history of dealing with each other (both GM's have some of the biggest ego's in baseball). Still, you would be talking about getting a starter who has been downright dominant this season. The only question I ask is do the Sox have enough to acquire him (prospect wise) and how much of a chance are they taking on the fact that they are buying a guy while he's at his highest market value. Jesus Christ. Billy's not that stupid, is he? We'd have to give up the whole farm for somebody like Duchscherer.

QUOTE (WSoxMatt @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 02:23 PM) NO, Crede was the players chooice, Marmol was NOT...Marmol was taken by the manager even when the manager knows he has gotten his ass rocked lately... Marmol was almost voted in in the FIRST PLACE. That's a scary ass thought. But Hurdle had nothing to do with this.

The Twins will not pay him, that's all I know. He's not a FA until the end of 2009. There's around $20 million the Twins will have to pay for him.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 08:39 PM) I wonder if those people who wanted Konerko TRADED still think the same way. Today's game is exactly what Paulie needed. He's always killed Millwood. He really needed a confidence booster like a 4-4 game to get him back on track. Hopefully, this game isn't a one hit wonder. Paulie's had a couple of those this season. Damn it, it was a one hit wonder.

QUOTE (wilmot825 @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 12:25 AM) If Ozzie sticks to his guns like he said in the Tribune on Sunday about possibly rotating Konerko and Thome at DH, what would happen? Obviously it wouldn't happen since both are the highest paid guys on the roster. But, if the Oz did it for a week could it set them straight? I can't stand to watch a game and be able to predict the future, it goes like this.... Konerko up with a runner on 1st with 1 out- Ground ball to the left side, double play Thome up- Either a Strikeout or high high HIGH popout If these 2 and Swisher get hot in the 2nd half, this offense can't be stopped. Its wicked without them, just image it with them Dude, with the push Thome's had lately, he's had a pretty damn good first half. His numbers: .253 18 HR 51 RBI .375 OBP .887 OPS. Plus, Thome's hit lefties better than righties this year. Unless he gets cold again, I see no reason in benching him 2-3 times a week for Konerko, who might go 1-9 in that stretch. Lol, if you compare Crede's and Thome's stats, Jim is much better... And to think, Joe is an all-star. Sheesh.

QUOTE (Baines3 @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 06:40 PM) Those were 2 bad losses this weekend. At least the Tigers came through for us by beating the Twins. I didn't get to see the game, it looks like Jose had a bad one today. You better be John Danks good to pitch well vs. the Rangers in their park. I was listening to it on the radio since I was out for lunch today. I heard a lot of first pitch strikes from Jose. But, after getting ahead, he'd mess around a bit and the Rangers hitters would just crush some pitches. If this was against some other team, he might of done a bit better. -

QUOTE (Jim Spencer @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 06:39 PM) Something for Paulie to think about during the break: Juan has a higher batting average than he does Something for Paulie to think about during the break: Don't think, just see the ball and swing. See the ball and field. Grab the ball and throw. Konerko is the baseball equivalent of a emo kid. Seriously... -

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 06:31 PM) Guillen needs to be crucified in the media if he sticks with Contreras very long into the second half of the season. His fastball and forkball have become less and less reliable. We can't have these starts ever 5 days when Buehrle and Danks seem to be the only reliable pitchers as of late. A couple of starts, not 20 starts. Thing is, who else can we start? Broadway? Masset? LOAIZA??? Eh, I really don't think there are many options that are much better. I also noticed that Jose went to his old windup today with the arms over his head. Why did he do that? He seemed effective with his new windup.
