I'd argue that we get more media attention now than ever before. Keep in mind, that it's not the standings that determine who gets more attention, it's the demand. Like it or not, a national audience is going to have more people interested in the BoSox, Spankees, and Cubs than in the team with the best record in baseball.

The point is where do you draw the line? The NCAAs exact words, quoted above, would certainly include abolishing the Fighting Irish nickname. Personally, I think all of this mascot debate rises out of people with nothing better to do that want to get on the news, so they b**** about something that they have no personal connections with.

I'm an insider, and it's just an electronic version of ESPN the Magazine, it's the exact same thing as you'd see if you bought the mag on a newstand, it's just in electronic form.

I was at the AJ walkoff against the Dodgers this year, that was up there, but #1 was probably 6-27-03 when Valentin hit a walkoff homer to beat the Cubs. Another great game I was at was on 6-3-01 against the Tigers. We were down 6-0 in the middle of the 8th, got 4 in the bottom of the 8th, 2 in the bottom of the 9th, and Konerko hit a three run homer in the 10th to win 9-6.

I can't argue with much that the guys says except for the last line, Joe Jackson might have been a better hitter, or Jose Canseco!

My theory on this is that Peter Gammons not only reports first on all of the deals, but is actually the mastermind behind them all. Since he was in Cooperstown, not orchestrating the deadline deals, very little went down.. Gammons rules the baseball world.
