Gotta be AJ's homer against the Dodgers, especially since it was one of the four games I've attended and because I'm a retro jersey fanatic and they were wearing them.

Regarding Hawk getting a cut, there was an e-mail question in a game earlier (Hawk loves e-mail) about the shirts, and Hawk said that they were being sold outside the stadium and for the e-mailer to come on out to a game and they won't be able to miss them. That doesn't mean he's getting a cut from the shirts, and I certainly don't think he is, but it made me believe that he doesn't really mind, otherwise why would he provide info on where to find one? If Hawk wanted to, he could go after the sellers or start selling official Hawk merchandise. He hasn't, so Hawk must not want to.

Bottom line is, if Crede is hurt, nobody wins. He won't be able to play, we won't have a serviceable substitute for him, and he'll have a low trade value. I always figured if we'd acquire a 3b we'd include Crede in the trade. if we don't, what happens when he's healthy again?

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 04:46 PM) Theres no reason Willis should not be starting. yeah, that's what I think too. Willis has the same record as Carpenter, an ERA that's 0.12 lower, but 33 less strikeouts. BUT, Willis has more name recognition and for most of the season has been the NL leader in wins.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 04:05 PM) How much do you guys spend per game... for les say good not great but not bad tickets and for food and everything at the game. Im interested because im just starting college and will finally have my own car and s***, but if it costs 2 much I cant really afford to go because I can use all the money I can get my hands on to, I know the upper deck seats or whatevr are really cheap but dont want to sit up there. To be honest in my lifetime ive actually been to more cubs games than sox ones , my dad used to get free tickets from his business all the time and they were always cub tickets and since whole family is cubs fans beside me that wasnt a problem for them It depends on the game. Early in the season I got some sweet tickets on Stub Hub to a game against the Royals, paid about $40 for the tickets. I haven't found any other great deals like that though. I'd try to buy tickets in the outfield in advance, and you're looking at around $30 per. If you eat and drink at the game it's gonna get really expensive really fast. I don't know where you go to college, but transportation is the other big cost, if you're in the Chicago area, find a way to take the Red Line ($3.50 round trip) and it's fairly cheap, if you drive you have the cost of gas and $17 to park near the stadium. I usually but a $1 scorecard and keep score during the game, that way I don't want to get food because it'd be hard to eat and keep score at the same time and I might end up missing some plays. So, about the cheapest it's gonna be is $35 per person, and that's barebones minimum. Of course, if you go on Monday tickets are half price

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 04:05 PM) Heres why I want to trade him= That was the first 5 hit game of his career, it was a fluke. Secondly, he is hitting under what we would expect a cleanup hitter to hit, he grounds into too many DP's, clogs up the bases, and strikes out too much. His FA contract is going to make him one if not the highest paid player on the team, and I for one, do not think he is worth that much. I am all for trading him right now, I think we can get Huff from TB to play 1st base and if not, Gload is a viable option. If not, Dye can play 1st and Carla can fill in the OF. I just think Kong is over valued, and I do not think we are pursuing him in the offseason. There is a reason they havent re-signed im yet, and his value will not match his price tag. I understand where you're coming from, and I completely agree that five hits was sort of a fluke and won't be repeated very often at all. It was just a little weird the timing of everything. I am not a believer that Huff is the answer though, his numbers this year are no better than Konerko's, other than the fact his salary is cheaper. He's seven months younger than Konerko. I just don't see him as much of an upgrade, just a cost saver.

I know this is a Sox board and forum, so we'll probably stick with the AL discussion for the most part, but how about the pick of Carpenter over Willis and maybe even Clemens? Guess that's the payoff when you go to the World Series, you can still start your guy.

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 03:56 PM) I love Paulie....but we really need someone else in the lineup who gets on base...his strikeouts and pop-ups are driving me crazy. It's ironic that one day after he gets five hits we're talking about trading him because he doesn't get on base. I demand more five hit performances!! If he got five hits a game I think we'd all be ok with him!

yesterday I cringed with Vizcaino in, but I was listening on the radio, and Rooney and Farmer pointed out the guys remaining in the White Sox bullpen: Kevin Walker Shingo Takatsu Bobby Jenks Some of you will argue that Takatsu should have been in, but out of the three guys above and Vizcaino, I still want Vizcaino to have the ball in a close game. I guess that means we need more bullpen help!

I'm definitely not about to jump on the get rid of Konerko bandwagon, but I have to admit, I hated seeing Lee go, I hated seeing Ordonez go, but our team is better off afterwards. Maybe me personal desires about keeping guys that have been here around cloud my ability to think about how we can put the best possible team on the field. That being said though, offensive production from first basemen is down all around the AL and Konerko is definitely a serviceable firstbaseman, probably above average. Getting rid of him shouldn't be a priority, but at the same time, he might not be worth what he's going to demand.

QUOTE(kman @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 03:39 PM) Francona was not pleased to hear of Guillen's comments. "Guillen is the manager of the Chicago White Sox, not the American League All-Stars," Francona told The Boston Globe. "I'll announce it when it's appropriate." Looks like we're gonna have a real rivalry here!! If the season ended today we'd be playing them in the divisional series. Guillen didn't really announce Buehrle as the starter though, he just said that Francona had called him to talk about it, and spoke his feelings about the possible start.

Who's Hawk? Andre Dawson? He didn't ever play for the White Sox did he?
-
I'm gonna let this one slide for Carl. First, because I like him as a player, and second, because I think it would be so hard to play in Tampa Bay. He came to Chicago and saw all the people and other players excited about Podsednik being in the final man vote, and were any tampa fans or teammates excited for him? No.

the only game of the series that I won't be at, and I don't even get to watch!!! BOO.

It's gotta be either Carl's Heart of a Champion by Nelly or the beginning of Bad Boys by Mase

I use the sportsline picture trick thing and save all of the postgame pictures into a big file. I end up with a huge amount of pictures. I did it for the Illini's season too, it's a great way to bring back a lot of memories of specific games.

yeah, I realize it's an extreme longshot, maybe it'll happen someday, you always hear about McGwire hitting that New Era Cap corner back in the day, so who knows?
-
I've been trying to decide what to get put on my blank home jersey, and tonight I think "Jenks 45" has taken the lead.

The shot last night had me hoping, but it didn't happen, so I still wonder........Who will be the first player to hit one into the fundamentals area?

Everytime I hear DJ's call I wonder if he has ever heard himself say it, because when you typed- "uh oh bye bye" it doesn't really explain how truly disturbing and strange it sounds live. It scares my dog everytime the commercial with DJ's call in it comes on. At least he's trying.

QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 05:42 PM) Lets hope the Sox have better luck than the Illini. I agree to an extent, although a world series loss would still be a great accomplishment, and probably a bigger thrill than the final four to me, even though I got to go to the final four, and might not get to go to the world series.

you can't go wrong with either of our two or halladay, I voted for Garland though just because at the beginning of the year he would have been the least likely candidate, and everybody likes an underdog.

I'd like to know too, I have tickets Saturday, but want to get a couple to Sunday too, and I was hoping to just buy them at the game Saturday.

7/5 Gamethread Devil Rays vs White Sox

There's nothing worse than games on WCIU that I can't watch since I'm outside the local Chicago channel coverage. -
ATO: Jenks to Chicago, McCarthy Back to Charlotte
UofIChiSox replied to danman31's topic in Pale Hose Talk
So if Jenks is on the MLB Roster will he still play in the Futures Game?
