days after wins I read everything I can about the Sox and the game the night before, days after losses I look at the boxscore, and try not to think about the Sox until the next game starts.

I'm not gonna say that they cover us the best, but I read the Sun Times website everyday, which is free, and read just about everything on whitesox.com during the season. www.suntimes.com www.whitesox.com

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 14, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) OT again: I wonder what's going to happen with Manchester United now that the resident gay guy Malcolm Glazer bought the controlling share of the club. Pink and Purple uniforms?

Excite Bike will always be my favorite game.

They have Neifi Perez as an NL All-Star Shortstop. I find that hard to believe.

QUOTE(shakes @ May 13, 2005 -> 09:16 PM) I agree with you. His control would just worry me out of the bullpen. His control worries everyone wherever he pitches from.

No offense to shakes, but I think this survey is not gonna have a lot of different answers. Anybody who has followed the team at all will probably vote the same way.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 13, 2005 -> 08:48 PM) Bristol is the rookie league affiliate for the White Sox organization. Players there are generally 4 or more years away from the majors, if they make it at all. 10 years ago Frank Thomas was the most feared hitter in baseball. He's still an elite player when healthy, but I don't know if we're ever going to see a completely healthy Frank Thomas. Last years demise was largely due to not having our two best hitters on the field at the same time after about this time last season. Nobody here is going to blame you. Our current team is playing over their heads. Nobody plays .750 baseball. But the team is well placed for a run deep into the postseason. They could easily play .600 ball the rest of the way and wind up with the best record a White Sox team has had in 20+ years. You said the same thing as me but typed faster!!

Thomas was the best player in baseball in the early 90s until the baseball strike of 1994. You can make arguments for Ken Griffey back then too, but he was unstoppable. Since then, Thomas has been hurt on and off and never quite the same, though he had his best season statistically in 2000 with 43 HR and 143 RBIs. He's getting up there, and nobody knows how well he'll be able to come back. He probably won't hit for the average that he has over his career, but should still be able to put up decent HR numbers. He also still walks a lot and will get on base a lot, which in my eyes will be the biggest lift when he returns. But after being out so long and being up there in age, nobody really knows how good he'll be when he returns. As for the historical norm, our team is obviously playing above where we have in the past. I don't see us keeping our winning percentage up close to 75%, but we should be able to stay right with Minnesota, and hopefully hold on to our lead. Everybody has a chance of winning something. I think it's way to early to speculate on that, but I think we should make the playoffs, and from there anything can happen.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ May 13, 2005 -> 08:38 PM) 1) Lyle Mouton none of the others matter Mouton was awesome!! I was trying to think about as many obscure guys that I just loved to root for. There have been quite a few.

1. Frank Thomas 2. Jose Canseco 3. Magglio Ordonez 4. "Shoeless" Joe Jackson 5. Bo Jackson 6. Paul Konerko 7. Mark Buehrle 8. Keith Foulke 9. Billy Koch 10. Lance Johnson

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ May 11, 2005 -> 09:35 PM) Yeah Oliver Perez is great in that game, too bad he is struggling so much this year in real life. But his slider in that game just dominates the competition... I dont know if you guys have seen it yet, but the cubs park looks really nice in MVP.. yesterday was first time i played in it and it is one of the better looking parks in the game. I just wish they could get the Cell right, it still has BLUE WALLS!!

As a Ford driver I'm outraged!

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 11, 2005 -> 05:47 PM) This brings up a good point, If gooch was a larger base stealing threat, would Carl see more good pitches??? Who says Iguchi isn't a threat to steal. he has what, seven steals now? He's not in the same caliber as Pods obviously, but he can't be ignored over there either.

I think there is no set amount of time he'll be in the minors either. He seems to think with all the BP that a week at AAA will have him ready to face major league pitching. That is not guaranteed to be the case, so I would say that it's completely up in the air. He could go to Charlotte in a week or it could be longer. He could be in Charlotte for a week, or it could be longer. Therefore, it's two weeks or else any amount of time longer. If I were a betting man, I would put money on him not playing in Anaheim. That a minor downer if you have tickets, but the way the team is playing, it should still be four very fun games.
-
I still can't believe that we were able to sign him this offseason with all the teams scraping for closers now and us already having what appeared to be a solid closer in Shingo and valid possibilities in Marte and Politte

You're a diehard when you can watch the entire cbs sportline webcast of a sox game, complete with cheering and agony, while out of radio or television access
-
One could spin this to make us look like even better more dedicated fans. We still love this team, even though they haven't had the success. It sucks to have our team be the WORST at anything, but you could spin it into saying we are pretty bad ass for rooting for such a hard team to root for.

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ May 11, 2005 -> 05:49 AM) i would think mlb would be watching those games real closely. Yeah, there's no way that an ump crew could get away with screwing us over consistently.

If I were him, I'd be saying to myself "Well, the jig is up, I can't get away with steroids anymore, at least I got paid really well for awhile."

It's weird because I didn't feel like Pena was the problem there at all. I guess I sure don't know though. I was surprised that he resigned. Expectations were low for this year anyhow, it's not like they are playing below them.

Rickey's playing in the independent league again

It's good to see a guy who just wants to play, no matter what level. -
he's on the DL and won't be here for sure now http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2057483

I was flipping through channels and saw US Cellular, and ran across this. The commentators were commenting on some well hit balls that didn't leave the yard, and I think it was Reynolds who said that US Cellular isn't known as much of a hitters park and that there aren't too many long home runs there. It was interesting to see how much opinions about that can change. I wonder how much of the stigma is caused by our recent good power hitters and our plethora of pitchers who have given up the long ball in the past. Or is there something to the renovations that have made the ball carry better last year and worse again now? Then again, maybe Reynolds just didn't know what he was talking about. That's very possible.

I try my best not to be much of a homer with fantasy baseball. I keep real and fantasy baseball seperate. Therefore, I'd keep Sexson. He should have a ridiculous amount of RBIs with lineup that's around him. I think he'll probably exceed Konerko in all of the big fantasy categories.
