  1. I voted indifferent, but not because I don't like what we've done or where I think we're going. Basically I just voted that way because if the season started today, I wouldn't be too happy with where our team is, we lost two big run producing bats and gained a speedster, some bullpen help, but NO starter. There is a lot of offseason left though, we need that starter!!
  2. Watch how this offseason unfolds, MAriotti will talk great about all the guys we go after and don't get, and then rip on any guys we do sign. Speaking so highly of Vizquel is just the beginning. I mean, the guy only gets readers by ripping on local teams and upsetting their fanbase. That being said, he does have a lot of good points about Reinsdorf's style.
  3. Where does this leave Sweeney and Anderson though? I would say they'd be tradebait with this scenario. Could come back to bite us in the ass, but at the same time, live in the now, I think all three of those guys listed in the article would be more productive at least this season, and probably for the next few.
  4. Is anyone here concerned at all that we are filling all of our coaching positions with former players when there might be more qualified candidates? The reason I ask this is that I have heard reports that Baines does not really care for his current position. Please don't take this as me saying I dislike the hiring of Raines, or any of the other coaches that we have now. I'm just looking at this from a pure business standpoint, and anyone in a business will tell you that you get ahead by hiring the best possible people, not by bringing in your buddies. While we all get a warm fuzzy feeling when these players that we rooted for years ago in Sox uniforms return to the organization, I would have a much warmer, much fuzzier feeling watching the Sox swarm Shingo Takatsu as he closes out game 7 of the World Series!!
  5. That's the best news I've heard today, get Unit, screw Nomar. Wait, get Unit and Nomar.
  6. Are these guys considered available or just pure speculation? I would love to get Raffy if Hurt is out, and Phelps is 26 and cheap. I'd probably pass on the others on that list though, but that's just me, and I don't run the team.
  7. I don't want to be a pessimist, but I must. I think an older, bigger player like Frank will have more trouble recovering from an injury to a weight bearing area like the foot than Maggs took with his knee. I will be surprised to see Frank back this season, hopefully I'm wrong, but with that in mind, I'm all for going out and getting another bat unless Borchard can do close to what he did in AAA up in the bigs.
  8. I've been stuck in a hotel room the last three weeks in Springfield, The first two weeks I had Sox games to watch every night. This week has been hell. Nobody to talk to, nothing to do, no White Sox to watch, I'm lucky I made it through.
  9. I agree to look at a Nomar acquisition as a replacement for Big Hurt and not Valentin. It would give us somebody to play against lefties so we can get Harris AND Valentin out against them which would be good. If Nomar came around, he could replace Thomas' production in any category but home runs. to keep Valentin happy, I would sign him to an extension and explain that there is a very slim chance Nomar is around for more than this season. That being said, if we have the prospects and $$$$ to get Unit, get him, but I would bet that in the rumored deal, we wouldn't be paying all of Nomar's salary, so we'll see what happens. I love this stuff.
  10. I agree, it's so rare to see that, everything has to go just right, so what if we still lost the game by 12? Without the Triple Play we probably would have lost by 15! We'll have guys make defensive plays or hit big homers every year, but a triple play only comes along once a decade maybe.
  11. I park in the church all the time, it's easiest to get out of because I'm always heading south on the dan ryan to champaign or down to 80. I've never had any problems with too much traffic or my car being damaged at all.

I didn't realize the scope of this dislike for Jay, but I was reading an article today on ESPN Page 2 about the next members of the 500 HR Club and here's a quote in the blurb about the Big Hurt: Pretty funny stuff, here's the link, maybe it's already been talked about. Eric Neel on ESPN Page 2
  13. He's not crazy, I saw it too, the NL team had like 25 guys on their bench not counting starters and pitchers, so I knew something was whack. I was about to post something about it to but then the problem was fixed.
  14. Are you kidding me?! We'll still have all the rumors about who cleared waivers, who we can still get, and all that good stuff!! Plus we'll be able to debate whether to use Unit, FG and MB only or add in E-Lo in the playoffs!!
  15. yeah, definitely didn't mean that they Sox should have 7 All-Stars, sorry about the confusion. Just tried to say that I think there are five guys more deserving of a spot than E-Lo
  16. I was thinking about that today at work. The All-Star game is BS, and I don't even think it's that much fun to watch, that's just me though. Anyhow, here's the list of White Sox players in order of deserving an All-Star appearance PK Big Hurt Shingo Buerhle Uribe Loaiza Lee I would say you can even Maggs maybe, but to have just Loaiza is a joke.
  17. Twins losing thanks to Jeff Liefer's 3 run homer!! He may be on a different team, but at least he's still helping the Sox!!
  18. If the Cubs think Koch is our best pitcher, I wish they would have traded for him. Could have been the reincarnation of the Garland deal.
  19. I was excited when we got Koch, I won't miss what he brought the team on the field, but I was out at spring training, and he was the guy who talked to people and signed autographs the longest. It's refreshing to see a guy who can be going through the worst struggles of his career and still gives good interviews and interacts positively with fans. That being said, Koch didn't increase our chances to win on the field, so it was definitely time for him to move on. Hopefully it's best for Billy and the Sox.
  20. And they say Cubs fans don't care about the Sox and Sox fans hate the Cubs.
  21. I voted for the $14 million, but that should not be 20% of our payroll
  22. I remember last year, and the Tigers weren't a pushover for us then!!
  23. Rookie of the year should be a guy who came in and did well and has a long career ahead of him. Not a 35 year old pitcher who will be around for just a few more years. If a player has played professional baseball at the highest level possible in any country for more than a year or two, they shouldn't be eligible.
  24. I voted Hawk and DJ but my opinion is skewed because I watch almost all games on TV and am far enough away that I have a little trouble picking up 1000.
