  1. And McCann was horrible against everyone before last season. We can do this all day. The White Sox aren't sitting one of the biggest signings in franchise history to play James McCann instead after said signing has been off for 3 days. They have 4 guys (Abreu, McCann, EE and Grandal) that are all good vs LHP. Someone has to sit.
  2. Yasmani Grandal is a better player than James McCann is so there is plenty of reasons. McCann is awesome against lefties but Grandal is as well. Would you play McCann over Abreu or EE against LHP? That's basically what it would be.
  3. 670 talks a ton of White Sox. They're interesting. Many Sox fans at at the station as well. Mully and Kevin Dziepak in the morning, Bernstein, Laurence Holmes, Herb Lawrence, McNeil and Tannehill in the afternoon. Shane Riordan is in management and is a huge Sox guy. Mitch Rosen is the PD and loves the Sox. There is plenty of Sox talk there.
  4. Yesterday he suggested twice that they should put Goldschmidt on first and not face him. Today, he said that Goldschmidt is the best player in the Cardinals lineup and letting him beat you shouldn't be in the game plan. It was subtle but hit as he intended for those paying attention.
  5. I think Marcus Stroman and Jose Quintana are the most likely. They could trade for someone though. There are strong rumors that the signing team won't have to give up a pick in free agency for QO players.
  6. He doesn't really profile in a corner.
  7. The White Sox don't think he's adequate in CF. That pretty much tanks his profile if so. He wouldn't have made the team next spring and no minor league season really hurt him. Getting cash is better than losing him for nothing. What were the other options? I'm not so sure
  8. I haven't heard. We'll find out if he has the command to live in the 95-96 MPH range consistently.
  9. Zack Burdi has been called up to the majors. I wrote about it for FutureSox: https://www.futuresox.com/2020/08/08/downers-grove-native-zack-burdi-gets-first-major-league-call/
  10. Trades can be made for PTBNL. You could also add a player to the pool and then trade him. I'm not sure how active the White Sox will be, but the player pool doesn't really matter.
  11. No corresponding move necessary. Roster drops to 28 tomorrow.
  12. We are thinking about what to do with them. They can't really be updated without baseball.
  13. Same number of years. If Yasmani Grandal would have opted out this year, he wouldn't get paid for the season but his contract would take effect for next three years still.
  14. Jared Kelley and Matthew Thompson are headed to Schaumburg. Andrew Dalquist likely soon as well. https://www.futuresox.com/2020/07/27/jared-kelley-and-matthew-thompson-expected-to-join-white-sox-alternate-roster-in-schaumburg/
  15. They didn't punt the 2019 draft to do it at all. That's not factual. They took James Beard in round 4. They also added: Chase Krogman, Logan Glass, DJ Gladney, Misael Gonzalez and Victor Torres as prep talents on day 3. Some high upside college relievers like McKinley Moore and Caleb Freeman. That is absolutely not punting. They did this year but they got two top 20 players in a 5 round draft.
  16. Eventually. I was confused by this too. The White Sox are allowed to carry 42 players on the 40 man. Ruiz and Mazara are still on the COVID-DL. That counts like the 45/60 day DL where the players 40 man spots aren't currently counted. When those players get back though, the Sox will have to DFA two more players to accommodate.
  17. You need to create two 40 man spots to add Detwiler, Heuer and Cuthbert FWIW.
  18. They did it with Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert. They convinced them to sign extensions instead though ultimately.
  19. I would agree. He's not starting with the club initially. I am curious to see how they pull 30 players from the 40 man roster though. Might have to DFA a guy or two.
  20. Read the latest from Fegan. Cooper stepped in it because he was out of the loop. I’m not surprised.
  21. The infectious disease expert from Advocate was on 670 and he said testing negative isa poor threshold because they've had patients who have tested positive for months while no longer being contagious from the virus. He said that the threshold to return should be 10 days symptom free and 3 days fever free.
  22. They didn't really get a year back he just doesn't earn another year. He has 1.41 years of service. That stays flat. He'll be a free agent after the 2025 season. There's a chance that they would've kept him under 2 years of service this year anyway to be honest.
  23. He's asymptomatic. He also tested positive prior to the supposed bar visit. He just needs to test negative twice at this point to return. That could take months though which is why a negative test is a weird threshold in regards to returning to play.
  24. To me it seems like there are 26 roster locks at the moment: Pitchers Lucas Giolito Dallas Keuchel Carlos Rodon Reynaldo Lopez Dylan Cease Gio Gonzales Alex Colome Kelvin Herrera Steve Cishek Aaron Bummer Jace Fry Carson Fulmer Evan Marshall Jimmy Cordero Position Players Jose Abreu Edwin Encarnacion Tim Anderson Yoan Moncada Leury Garcia Danny Mendick Yasmani Grandal James McCann Eloy Jimenez Luis Robert Nomar Mazara Adam Engel 4 spots remaining for the opener. I'm guessing 1 catcher, 1 position player and 2 more relievers.
  25. Jared Kelley recently joined the FutureSox podcast and he talked about the development of his 3rd pitch. Dan Santaromita wrote about it a little more here: https://www.futuresox.com/2020/07/09/jared-kelley-focused-on-improving-breaking-ball-after-slipping-in-draft/
