  1. We just talked to Crochet on the podcast and he was excellent.
  2. Dunning, Basabe, Rutherford are already on there because they are on the 40 man roster. It's the 40 man roster plus 20 additional players. I'd think guys like: Vaughn, Madrigal, Stiever, Gonzalez, Delmonico, Cuthbert, Mejia, Sheets, Tyler Johnson, Heuer, Detwiler, Crochet. That leaves plenty of room though. Could see Jake Burger. I wonder if they'd put Kelley, Thompson and Dalquist on just to get a look at them. It's going to be fascinating.
  3. So I'm wrong about this. Teams can add/subtract players from their 60 man player pool as the season goes on. I didn't know that. So for example, if the White Sox wanted like Mychal Givens of the Orioles and Baltimore wanted a prospect from rookie ball, the Sox could just release a guy like Ross Detwiler, add the rookie ball player and trade him for Givens apparently.
  4. I thought there would be some trade activity during this 2020 season. The deadline moved to August 31. There are plenty of teams who could be looking to dump off some assets. It might be harder to do with the transaction rules reported by Mark Feinsand though: https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-roster-transaction-rules-for-2020-season Can teams make trades? Yes, though not every player in an organization can be dealt in 2020. The Trade Deadline this season has been moved from July 31 to Aug. 31, but unlike years past, teams will be limited in which players they can deal. Only the 60 players in a team’s Player Pool will be eligible to be traded, limiting the number of Minor League players who will be moved this summer. Players acquired via trade must be assigned to a team’s Player Pool. This doesn't make any sense to me. Look at a team like Kansas City. They may want to trade Ian Kennedy. Why should they be limited to someone in a team's 60 player pool?
  5. He needs 6 years of major league service to become a free agent. It's effectively a way to manipulate service team. .66 in 2020 Full seasons in 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 would leave him with 5.66 years of service. Sox would effectively get a 7th year of service in 2026.
  6. Adding to this and maybe Harold can help me out here. I heard the White Sox went after some pretty unrealistic targets in the NDFA process. Lots of juniors. It could help them in theory next year though. These guys will go back to school and while they'll make more than $20K next year in a 20 round draft, the White Sox could draft and sign guys potentially underslot in the 2021 draft.
  7. Here's how I understand it: if a guy is on active roster for 60 games, it's a year of service. If Madrigal is on the taxi squad to start and then comes up and plays in 40 games, he gets .66 of a year of service for example. Same deal for Kopech. He should start with the club though.
  8. They're full steam ahead. We may not agree but the league is expecting positive tests and they're ready for them. Prepare to be uncomfortable. They have this taxi squad for a reason as well. They're committed to doing this and they wouldn't even attempt it if positive tests would shut down the league again.
  9. The governor has already given permission four outdoor sporting events to take place with 20% capacity. We have people attending youth sports events outside every weekend. I'd bet on 8K people being able to watch baseball in August at this point. We've earned this in Illinois with our response IMO. Diligence and protocols must continue throughout this phased re-opening though.
  10. I believe it's the same, yes. Fulmer and Cordero both out of options.
  11. It depends on situation. Someone with a pre-existing medical condition gets paid and service time. Someone without gets neither. It doesn't really matter for a guy like Jose Quintana. He'd still be a free agent. His contract expires. Someone like Mookie though, needs the year of service to hit free agency
  12. There's zero chance Rodon opts out. He needs the service time to become a free agent after 2021.
  13. I doubt any of the big names opt out. These guys will feel an obligation to their teammates to play. They're baseball players.
  14. I doubt it. It's going to be a regional schedule.
  15. Sox could still play there but it won't be against the Yankees.
  16. I'll take your tickets.
  17. I've heard nothing about makeup concerns. I interviewed him last week and have spoken to people close to him. I'd be stunned if he had any makeup issues. He was definitely heavier this spring. Professional strength program can fix all of that.
  18. Lots of people care, actually. I want to see this White Sox team play baseball. I also don't want to see friends in many industries like radio, tv, advertising, media, scouting etc fired because there's no baseball this year. It's not about you. If you don't want to watch then don't watch.
  19. I'm being a little conservative with Crochet. Shirley saw him this spring at a scrimmage and that sold him on the pick basically. Guys like Harold on this board love him and think the ceiling is huge. That can't be argued. We might look back and all feel stupid when he's a dominant lefty starter. The White Sox think they stole a guy. If he pitched the rest of the season, there's a decent chance he's not even on the board at #11. I'd understand ranking Crochet at 4 but I'd also understand ranking him behind Dunning and Stiever. It's very interesting.
  20. I would do this: 1. Luis Robert OF 2. Michael Kopech RHP 3. Andrew Vaughn 1B 4. Nick Madrigal 2B 5. Jared Kelley RHP 6. Garrett Crochet LHP 7. Dane Dunning RHP 8. Jonathan Stiever RHP 9. Matthew Thompson RHP 10. Andrew Dalquist RHP I'd probably put Norge Vera in the top 10 but he's not officially signed.
  21. For the purposes of what we do, they're still prospects Who wrote that line? I agree with you. This was the only way to get both players.
  22. Our writers have been debating where to slot Garrett Crochet and Jared Kelley into the organizational top 30 list. We compiled our thoughts into a roundtable here: https://www.futuresox.com/2020/06/22/where-do-garrett-crochet-and-jared-kelley-rank-in-the-white-sox-system/ What does everyone else think? Where should they rank?
  23. I'm not sure what it is that the MLBPA wants right now. This deal is significantly better for them than Manfred imposing a season. No DH, No expanded playoffs, etc. The players get a chunk of revenue for expanded playoffs. They don't get anything for traditional playoffs. I also don't think they win a grievance. That's why MLB is holding strong on ending the regular season on September 27th. By not negotiating past that stop date, it gives them an advantage if a grievance is filed in my opinion.
  24. It’s very possible in pockets of the country. If every game were in Chicago/Milwaukee and NY area, they’d probably be fine actually
