If he waits until July to sign, I'd think the White Sox have a realistic shot here. They've been risk averse in the 16-year-old marketplace but signing 18-22 year old Cubans is kind of what they do. They don't have any reported commitments/agreements with top guys in the 2020 class yet either. Colas played on his youth teams with Yolbert Sanchez and Luis Robert in Cuba. It makes lots of sense.

Montas would be calculated for the Red Sox since they were the team that signed him.

It includes: 2010: Chris Sale, Addison Reed, Tyler SAladino, Jacob Petricka 2011: Marcus Semien, Kevan Smith, Chris Bassit, Chris Devenski 2012: Brandon Brennan, Micah Johnson 2013: Tim Anderson, Adam Engel 2014: Carlos Rodon, Jace Fry, Aaron Bummer 2015: Carson Fulmer, Seby Zavala, Danny Mendick 2016: Zack Collins, Ian Hamilton. It counts Jose Abreu, Fernando Tatis Jr and Yolmer Sanchez as well. They'll get credit for: Luis Robert, Zack Burdi, Jimmy Lambert, Bernardo Flores, Matt Foster, Gavin Sheets, Luis Gonzalez, Tyler Johnson, Wil Kincanon, NIck Madrigal, Steele Walker, Konnor Pilkington, Jonathan Stiever, Andrew Vaughn and anyone else who makes the majors as well.

The White Sox won’t forfeit the 49th pick on a short term commitment. Ozuna might be in some trouble.

They want to limit his innings as well. It serves two masters. Service time and inning manipulation is easier to do in AAA -
Sox Officially Sign Edwin Encarnacion (1YR/$12M), Kodi Medeiros DFA

The MLB offices are closed for the holidays. I don't think they re-open until January 6th. I don't think anything can officially be announced until then. -
I mean there is though. It gets them 8 years of control instead of 7 and allows him to start the 2020 season in the majors
-
I have no idea. He should be a priority but it's not as urgent in my opinion.
-
Thanks for that. I'll say this: locking him in is definitely part of their plan. I have no idea what Robert or his representation wants to do though.

PIneda is out for the first 30 games though. -

This is a foolish statement. Collins has shortcoming for sure but he was a really good hitter in the minors. He never had less than a 130 wRC+ in the minor leagues. -

Do you think Zack Collins will have a better year than Jose Abreu? -
He posted a 150 wRC+ in the AA Southern League. I think he'll be fine.
-
Who is the guy?
-
My guess is Braun/Smoak platoon at 1B with Garcia, Cain and Yelich in OF
-
If they go into the season without any additions, I think Collins is the DH vs RHP. No idea what happens if they add someone.
-
I gotcha. I think he knows if he wants to keep Betts for whatever reason, he needs to dump Price and JBJ. I'm sure he's just waiting out the market.
-
I think they'll have two new pitchers, a 2B and probably another DH option, yes. Not sure on who those players are though.
-
There is no way that Chaim Bloom asked for Vaughn or Madrigal in return for David Price. He's a smart guy. I just don't believe it. It's a complete time waster.
-
Blake Rutherford type prospect
-
They aren't trading Madrigal and Vaughn. Not this off-season. Carry on.
-
It was supposed to say they aren't division favorites
-
You don't think the Sox can contend if they land one of Price/Keuchel/Ryu and say Bailey/Wood as a 2nd starter? Bring in Encarnacion and a vet 2B as well. They might be the division favorites but they can contend. It's December 17th and the Twins currently have 2 pitchers in their opening day rotation.
-
I'm not sure he does. He's older for sure but Wheeler has an extensive injury history as well
-
Just like they did with Zack Wheeler, right?
