  1. Lottery Reform has been approved: http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/2085100...healthy-players I actually think that the new rules will encourage more tanking. In the old system, they drew 3 teams for the lottery and put teams 4-14 by record. Team with worst record had a 25% chance, 2nd worst record 19.9% and 3rd worst at 15.6%. Now they are including the 4 worst teams in the drawing and putting the odds at 14% for each starting in 2019. Instead of 3 teams tanking for the 1st pick, I think the league could have as many as 10 teams tanking to get into the bottom 4 because those teams all have an equal chance now of obtaining the #1 pick in a given year. This new system doesn't really make any sense in my opinion.
  2. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Sep 28, 2017 -> 01:44 PM) Considering some say Jenista and Bohm are both future 1B, Beer could be the fourth college 1B off the board if these rankings stood. That's quite a drop. But looking at the draft as a whole, usually a little more than half the picks before our second round pick are college players, and we will probably have a pick around 45, so college players that would be available would probably be in the mid-20s in these rankings. All 30 teams will have 1st round picks this year. The teams that were comp round B last year will be Comp Round A this year which is 8 teams. Out of all the free agents that might receive Qualifying Offers (Hosmer, Moustakas, Cain, Arrieta, Cobb, Cueto, Lynn, Tanaka, Davis) Kansas City, St Louis, and Tampa Bay are only teams that might get picks after round 1. That would add 5 more picks to end of round. Sox 2nd pick should be between 44-50 somewhere.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 01:11 PM) Take Bowen. Odds are he is getting kicked out of the NCAA. So he does something for a year (maybe Europe) and then declares for the NBA draft. No skin off of the NBA's back as they still get their guy in a year. Bowen isn't like some superstar NBA talent though. He might be a 1st round pick.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 01:17 PM) So I had my Echo on and listened to Hampton and OB after the game. I am really starting to believe they want the Bears to lose for the complaining. They have made their beds and now if they win, they are still pissed off. A caller mentioned that he had seen their entire careers and they had played on some real lousy teams, and they just tried to humiliate the guy. Its funny for a while. They definitely are catering to the Superfan type of person. Ditka, sausage, Bears.... But from how they ripped everyone from Fox on down, you would have thought they lost 50-0 yesterday. We all know Cooper made one of the dumbest plays in history, but OB, that isn't Fox's fault. It isn't his position coach's fault. I get it, you think they suck, but it isn't their fault. Yeah, Fox tried to make a laugh out of it a bit at his press conference. What good does having an anuerism over it at that stage do? Big Cat and Olin Kreutz are pretty good. I listen to that if I ever do postgame.
  5. A little background on these guys: Tim Bittner was drafted by the White Sox in 2001 and traded to LAA for Scott Schoenweis. He was the Astros Northeast Area Scout and signed guys like Tyler White and Derek Fisher. John Tumminia was his signing scout with the Sox so there is some familiarity. I think he's on as the Northeast Cross Checker with Sox. Juan Alvarez: Former major league pitcher. He was the South Florida Area Scout and Latin America cross checker for the Indians. He was the signing scout for recent draftee and top prospect Tristan Mckenzie.
  6. This is an excellent evisceration of the Bulls front office by Stephen Noh from The Athletic: https://theathletic.com/107214/2017/09/21/h...rative-its-you/
  7. QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 02:08 PM) That is a newer one. I thought there may be a newer one. This was a question from the 90's when I was working with the Brewers as he was playing for them. Rob Deer?
  8. QUOTE (Quin @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 12:41 PM) All while being the DPOY That same DPOY got worked by Nene in the playoffs. He wasn't even close to the best defensive player in the NBA that season. He'll always have the award though.
  9. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 12:06 PM) Yep. Looking at the stats, the difference between Gallo and the rest is Gallo takes more walks which gives him more opportunities to score more runs for his team. Gallo is more of a left handed Chris Carter. Hits some bombs, draws some walks, K's a ton and hits for s***. Gallo is better than Chris Carter though. Gallo's 2017 with Rangers: .210/.333/.538 with a .364 wOBA and 123 wRC+. He has 38 homers and a ridiculous .329 ISO. Chris Carter had one season better than that. In 2012 with the A's, he had a .369 wOBA and 137 wRC+. In 2014 Carter hit .227/.308/.491 with a .346 wOBA and 125 wRC+. In 2016 with Milwaukee, Carter hit .222/.321/.499 with a wRC+ 112 and a .346 wOBA. Carter has 1 season with a slugging percentage over .500. Gallo's is .538 this year.
  10. Bulls have hired Doug Collins as a Senior Advisor that will report directly to John Paxson.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 18, 2017 -> 08:07 PM) Carolina went and signed Delhomme as soon as he became a free agent. He was a 5 year backup in New Orleans and took over for Peete who went 1-15 the season before. He put Tebow in after the Broncos were 1-3 and losing at halftime of the fifth game. Not really the same as refusing to play a rookie when the free agent pickup blows I am not gonna continue to argue with everyone who feels it is rushing Trubisky. Players are all different and it very well could stunt Trubiskys development for all I know. The only thing I know for a fact is that Glennon is terrible and I look forward to the day when Mitch takes over It will be on that Monday night in October when Trubisky takes over for good. He's the best QB on the team and while they aren't very good, it's really tough to evaluate other players with Glennon playing. The Bears will be 0-4 and Mitch can take his lumps on the field and learn there. He's getting a brand new coaching staff next year regardless. Most people just want to see him play and that likely includes the other guys on the team. Mike Glennon is a sunk cost at this point and really is irrelevant to the entire conversation.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 18, 2017 -> 11:31 AM) I dont know if anyone just heard Jim Miller on "Spiegel and Parkins", but he is a big fan of Glennon. So much in that he brought up Tom Brady having 2 interceptions yesterday in his defense of Glennon Jim Miller gets a paycheck from the Bears. He's turned into a complete company man.
  13. QUOTE (Soha @ Sep 16, 2017 -> 04:03 PM) So.. before it wasn't sustainable for more than a month or two. But it was sustainable for the entire season, so now it's changed to it's not sustainable for more than a full season? The goalposts keep moving in this discussion. Guilty as charged I guess. There's a reason why guys don't have .390 BABIP's every year. It just doesn't happen. I'd sell high if they can but I completely understand if they want to extend him. They just need to do one or the other
  14. .390 BABIP is not sustainable. .320 or so could be for him and that should still lead to some decent years. Does he have enough in game power for a corner OF spot? I'm very curious to see what the Sox do here. They need to decide whether to extend him or trade him. If I were betting, I'd guess that they deal him this offseason and try to sell high.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 02:26 PM) Since we're discussing Jose's salary and worth, I looked up some things. Here is how my mind works as an eye test, traditional stat guy and not an advanced stat guy and also NOT an age guy. Many people on this site (most?) are advanced stat people, definitely age people and definitely not eye test people. Jose turns 31 in January. So because of him being old by "new" age baseball standards, I'm of the opinion 'most' Sox fans would not want to pay him anything significant. He's ARB the next two years and free agent in 2020. There's no way in hell any new-age fan is going to want to sign him for the 2020 season at anything more than 8-10 million a year. Tell me if I'm wrong. My point is: They'll be OK if he gets paid decent bucks in arb. the next two seasons as we continue to lose, but if fans have their way NO WAY JOSE will be part of the rebuild. My question to you is ... some teams still will sign guys like Jose. Why in the hell would they do that entering his age 34 season? We're not the only organization that has an advanced stat fan base and front office that considers anybody over 32 OLD OLD OLD. So who is gonna pay these guys? What teams will want a 34 year old Jose at the 15-20 a mill pricetag in 2020? I would say by then Sox fans would be OK with 6-10 mill a year MAX for Jose going forward. Now Please comment on these Royals. Hosmer: Free agent turns 28 in October. Hmmm, most fans would be in favor of signing him 3 years max at about 20 mill a year. After that he's getting old. What do you say he's worth? Is Boras going to get him a Verlander like deal? Do the big money teams give him 7 years, 25 to 30 mill a year?? He'll be mighty old at the end of that 7 year deal. Moustakas: Free agent turned 29 on Sept. 11. Hmmm, getting old by fan standards. Again, I'd suspect most fans would be 'OK' with 3 years at 15-20 mill a year for Moustakas. What team is gonna give him 7 year deal at 20 to 25 mill a year?? He'll be 36 and a bum at the end of that deal if you go by the age police. Finally, Cain: Free agent turns 32 in April. My gosh that is OLDDDDDDD. He has good advanced stats this year, horrible traditional stats of 49 RBI. Now according to the new wave baseball age police he's way too old to get a good deal now. Fans happy with 8 mill a year the next 3 years? But will the Mets or Yankees or somebody give him a 6-year deal at 18-20 mill a year?? What say you? I want to be educated on how age factors in what fans think nowadays. Don't forget, Cespedes got a 4 year deal at about 26 mill a year last offseason. He's been hurt. Had a horrible year by traditional stats, good WAR. I actually agree with Greg here. If you can extend him for like 4/$70 million I think you do it.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 07:34 AM) In our latest prospect deep dive, Y2Jimmy0 gives us a glimpse of Justin Yurchak, this year's 12th round pick. Includes quotes from Justin. By the way, Yurchak is a guy that FutureSox gets a lot of questions about. Hopefully this will fill in a few of the blanks. This was a fun interview. Justin is a really nice kid and I look forward to seeing him progress through the system.
  17. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 02:27 PM) If the Sox win today, Detroit will be only one game back of them for the third pick. It's 2 with the tiebreaker but yes
  18. I wrote about Otani for FutureSox here: http://www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/2017/...-the-white-sox/

  21. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 07:43 AM) Camilla f***ing sucks and is super overrated in the looks department. Her body fluctuates so much. She actually looks pretty good this season. She's bats*** crazy though.
  22. I have an article coming for FutureSox on this tomorrow. I would be stunned if the White Sox were even in the running for this. THey can pay him $300K. They can offer him a rotation spot and let him DH on off days. Other teams can do the same though. Teams like the Pirates and Rockies can offer him $10 million. Yanks, Boston, Texas can offer somewhere in the $3-$4 million range and still allow him to pitch and hit. The Cubs, Dodgers, Astros and Padres can offer $300K. That's it though. One team that makes a lot of sense for me: Los Angeles Angels. They can pay him close to $9 million and he'd still be on the West Coast. This process will be fascinating.
  23. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Sep 13, 2017 -> 08:23 AM) Can he sign for just a couple years or is he subject to the six years, arbitration etc. If he signs he'll get a minor league deal and whatever bonus he agrees to under $10 million. Then he becomes a regular MLB player that needs to accrue 6 years of service time.
  24. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 12, 2017 -> 08:19 PM) This. I have no idea why anyone plays football. Well I do the whole manly man , honor and glory, stardom and on and on but jeez parents steer your kids to baseball. Because many of the kids that play in the NFL can't take a partial scholarship to play baseball in college and they also don't want to wait 6-7 years to get a payday in their sport likely. That's just one reason.
