QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 09:19 AM) He sounds a lot more like Soler to me than Moncada. White Sox did bid $25 million on Soler.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 10:56 AM) I thought the Sox were changing their drafting philosphy? This is the philosophy that people began to hate recent of drafting athletic guys like Anderson, Hawkins, walker etc. Hawkins is a bad miss. Anderson is a good pick. The issue is that Reinsdorf was against spending money on amateur players and KW loved tools, athletes. Drafting tools athletes is fine but drafting ones that also don't cost a lot of money isn't a sound strategy. They need baseball players and Hostetler drafted many guys with more traditional baseball and on base skills. He is on the record saying that he wishes he would have taken more high school guys and he even said they are looking at high school players in this year's draft. It has to be both is what I'm saying. You always want guys that play premium positions because those guys can play other spots. Nick Hostetler comes from the Schuerholz school of scouting. I would expect a focus to be on power pitching and athletes. Dayton Moore subscribes to the same theory and Chris Getz worked under him for years.

David Price Reports are Surgery NOT needed..
Y2Jimmy0 replied to NCsoxfan's topic in The Diamond Club
The loss of Price could possibly push the Yankees or Astros to move harder for Quintana though. That would be the best outcome. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 2, 2017 -> 08:59 AM) The Nationals are a big spending team out of the bunch that is over for this year. They know this is their last shot at prime players for two years (if cleared before 6/15) Ted Lerner doesn't even want to spend money on David Robertson. I doubt he gives the go ahead for more international signings. Ben Badler doesn't typically make mistakes. This is uncommon and unchartered territory for the Sox but when Baseball America pushes this hard and Ben Badler specifically, it's usually a good indicator.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 1, 2017 -> 07:01 PM) Just because they aren't on the list for the biggest ones doesn't mean they don't have guys down the list already committed to. I know that. That's not what Badler is insinuating though.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 1, 2017 -> 05:09 PM) If the team has agreed to any deals over $300k for July 2, 2017, they would have to go back and tell that player they aren't signing them now (assuming they sign Robert in this signing period) and risk future relationships with that trainer by reneging on the deal. That is in addition to missing out in the next class as well. For all of the debate over Tatis Jr, don't forget he signed for 800k. For sure. Badler made it sound like they don't have commitments and are lying in the weeds. Lets say they plan on offering pretty much their entire pool to Robert after J2. He would be their only large expenditure. What people are saying is, if they agreed to a deal with him in the current period, he'd still be their top expenditure. It's the same thing. Their biggest expenditures have been Adolfo for $1.6 million and Josue Guerrero for like $1.2 million. They've had many for over $500K though. They could still sign 10 guys for $300K each if they wanted. Give me the chance at the potential superstar.

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 1, 2017 -> 01:43 PM) I feel like an idiot for not recognizing this. And kudos to Paddy and Hahn if this works out or even if it is the plan as it sounds like it's worth risk. I thought about this possibility and mentioned it. I thought they had agreements with guys though from the way that Paddy, Hostetler, and Hahn were talking and that gave me pause.

QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Mar 1, 2017 -> 01:22 PM) Ben Badler article links White Sox to Luis Robert Badler said the Sox are the team that comes up the most in discussions about where he might land. He says Sox haven't really been linked to any of the big names for 17-18 period and would have more bonus pool $$ available than everyone else. He also said that if he's cleared prior to June 15, the Sox may just sign Robert anyway and blow through their 2016-2017 pool since it wouldn't affect their 17/18 plans. Very interesting.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 1, 2017 -> 10:27 AM) Sam Bradford got a haul...Jimmy G has more upside then Bradford, imo. I think a lot of people tend to undervalue what it will ultimately take to get a QB. Just like I tend to think we'll see a run on QB's in the 1st round, despite all the current reports that there isn't one worth drafting in the top 10. We'll see. Jimmy has played 2 NFL games and was a Day 2 prospect out of an FCS school. I'd be stunned if they get the 1st round pick they are seeking. I believe that 4 QB's go in the first round as well. I'd rather take one of them then trade a boatload of picks for Jimmy and pay him.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 1, 2017 -> 09:21 AM) Yeah, I doubt that. I have a hard time believing that if the Browns offered the 12th overall pick the Patriots would say no. Now, if they are only getting offers for a mid second round pick. I could see them holding on to him. That's total posturing. He's not worth a 1st. They aren't getting a 1st. They have no real leverage either. They can keep him next year but then he'll walk in free agency after the season. Patriots will receive a 2019 comp pick in that scenario. I'd call their bluff.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 12:59 PM) Can anyone confirm...do they look at comp picks in isolation (for losing a player)? Or do they look at the net gains / losses via free agency. So for example, if the Bears signed like 6 pretty good size free agents, but loss Alshon, would they consider the fact that we signed other guys when evaluating for whether we deserve a pick for losing Alshon? If the answer is no, then I could understand this as I would suspect we'd get a decent comp pick for him (maybe one of those end of 3rd round ones). That said, I thought they look at players lost and gained, in which case, I presume we'll get nothing, since we will likely be signing a good number of free agents. They won't receive a compensatory pick for Jeffery. It's players lost but they factor in free agents signed as well. If they let Jeffery walk and don't sign anyone in free agency, they'd likely receive a 3rd round comp pick next year. Everyone expects the Bears to go nuts in free agency though so it's a moot point.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 26, 2017 -> 01:13 AM) Don't stop now boys!!! I'll take it. Another good game for Denzel and obviously Jimmy and Wade. Niko too. You actually want this team to make the playoffs? Why?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 11:56 AM) The Sox are not in the penalty phase. They can spend their allotment however they like. He's saying for this period. Lets pretend that Robert gets cleared on Saturday. The Sox could sign him for huge money but they could only sign players for 300K or less in upcoming period then.

Badler updated his article: http://www.baseballamerica.com/internation...VD1cwd79uCYp.97 Still nothing for the White Sox

QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Feb 26, 2017 -> 10:34 PM) Ben Zobrist says hi Ben Zobrist has accumulated 42 bWAR over 11 seasons and had multiple 5+ WAR seasons. GTFOH with that comparison.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Feb 26, 2017 -> 02:19 PM) There's a place on a good White Sox team for Tyler Saladino. I don't know that he will ever be a solid positional starter anywhere, but there's no reason he can't play 8 more years as a utility guy. In 8 years, Tyler Saladino will be 36 years old.

Update: Luis Robert has been cleared according to Rosenthal
Y2Jimmy0 replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 26, 2017 -> 04:38 PM) True, but pads have such a low ML payroll that I think they'd get him more than post 6/15 Exactly. If Robert isn't eligible to sign until J2 the most any team can offer him is $10 million. The most the Sox could offer is $8.3 million and they'd be doing so without signing anyone for more than $300,000 either. If he's cleared before June 15th, then the Sox have no chance in my opinion. A team that is over like San Diego or Atlanta could pay him like $30 million. Nobody can do that under the new rules. The White Sox if cleared before June 15th, have the ability to pay him whatever they want. If they do that though, they won't be able to sign anyone in upcoming J2 period and they most likely have agreements in place already. -
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Feb 25, 2017 -> 08:32 PM) Alex from Fangraphs said that the Sox are looking to acquire athletic guys that play premium positions, which is something they lack in their system This isn't surprising. Nick Hostetler learned from Schuerholz's Braves. Power pitching and athletes was the model.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 07:26 PM) One thing to point out...I look forward to seeing how Zipser emerges this year. It will also be interesting to see what happens to Doug in OKC. Will he be better, worse or the same. I'll at least give the Bulls credit for not holding on to him any longer and cutting the chord when they did. Different then how they have handled things in the past (where they'd have waited one more year before they dumped him). Zipser is tied for the lowest PER in the league.......with Cameron Payne.
-
I actually don't hate it. 1st rounder wasn't coming in return. They can miss the playoffs and trade Jimmy in June.
-
It's Cam Payne, Morrow, and Joffrey for Taj, McDermott and 2nd rounder.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 01:21 PM) Geeze...if we trade Taj and don't get Sabonis back I'll be dissapointed. That said, I'd have preferred a 1st round pick for Taj (and would think we could have gotten an unprotected 1st from a contender). We do need to make moves so I'll at least give the Bulls credit for making moves (if that counts for anything) and getting multiple pieces back. So is it Doug and Taj for Payne / Robertson + someone else (presumably Sabonis). They should have traded Taj Gibson last year. That's the problem.

QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 11:21 AM) But they seem to be putting out there that they will only give up the BRO pick for George. If thats the case they are not in for Butler. Not according to Sam Amick and Ramona Shelbourne. Brooklyn pick is in.
-
Sounds like Boston is all in for Butler or George. Picks and assets available. It's now on the Bulls
