  1. QUOTE (daggins @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 02:43 PM) They want to win and unlike the Sox they have the resources to do so. 2 years of control for a stud reliever that throws 70 innings a year or 6 years of control of a young #1 starter? It's decision for me. I don't understand hanging on to Miller
  2. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 05:15 PM) What is the deal with Shields? Can he opt out next off season? If so, then Sox can offer him a 1 year QO at approx. $16-17 Mill? Which, if taken by him, the Sox will be on the hook for the entire amount and Pads are off same hook? Then, if some team signs him, Sox get draft pick? No. He can opt-out this offseason and the Sox get nothing in return. I'm not sure anyone will pay him more than the 2 years $44 million he's owed though.
  3. I will still be pretty surprised if the Sox move Sale or Quintana. I just don't think that teams will pony up what it will take in return.
  4. Obama is one of the greatest orators of our time. He is a considerate, decent human and I will miss him when he's gone. People have absolutely taken him for granted. He should've dropped the f***ing mic tonight. He was excellent..

Abreu has been the biggest issue on the team all year. Not Robin. Not bad catchers. Not the bullpen. If Abreu were having his typical season, the Sox would be in this thing and adding reinforcements for a playoff run. He's been terrible.
  7. Ptact thinks Sale is better because he has more wins though. Hp could a 7-8 guy be anywhere near as good as a 14-3 guy, right?
  8. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 09:03 PM) Kaplan is approaching it wrong because he's a giant boob, but the idea isn't wrong. We are root for the jersey, not really the player. Chapman seems like a giant piece of garbage, but damn can he throw hard. We are all sports fans. We all witnessed 2005 (aside from Mike who I think was like 2 when it happened. ). When "your guys" are winning playoff series, you're not thinking "Well I'm really happy about this but I wish Chapman wasn't on my team right now...." Cubs fans may be having a hard time with it right now. Once he puts on that jersey and records that first save, no one will be thinking about the DV charges from the off-season. Does that make it right? No. But Theo and Jed know they'll take a PR hit now. If they win the whole thing and Chapman records the save, you think there is a writer in this town that is going to minimize the Cubs 1st WS because of Chapman's past? Please. Great post. I've had enough of whiny Cubs fans on my Twitter timeline. They are crying about adding a bad guy that throws 103 mph to a team that they root for. They don't have to hang with him and I've heard he's actually a good teammate. f*** off and enjoy the playoff run and get off the high horse. It's entertainment. I'm sure none of these people have a problem paying money to see a Johnny Depp film. I don't follow Sarah Spain or Julie DiCaro but their dumbass thoughts keep entering my timeline.
  9. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 24, 2016 -> 03:16 PM) I'm going to be salty if we can't get Moncada from them. Benintendi is a capable headliner. Would be a great get for the Sox.
  10. Quintana and Robertson to Boston for Benintendi, Devers, Swihart, and Kopech is fair for both teams with BoSox paying DRob.
  11. I still don't think the Sox will trade Sale. I doubt they will get what they are looking for and it'd be incredibly stupid to deal him for less than he's worth.
  12. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 22, 2016 -> 09:51 AM) Unclear what you mean by smart international signings. If you are signing 16/17yr olds its really difficult to project their futures. The Sox have never shown an interest in the top guys . If you are talking about the older guys. Look at Gourriel. He's 32 and the Astro's gave him 5/$45M . The Astros !! Nothing very smart about that but I use it as an example of how you pretty much have to make dumb offers for int'l talent . If you are talking about Koreans the Sox haven't been in that market at all and someone like Kang who opened the door to more Koreans is just another miss Hahn and Co. failed to recognize. Sox haven't had a Japanese player in ages. Adolfo was #2 on mlb.com list when the Sox signed him. Sox finished 2nd on Soler and offered $25 million and wanted Puig prior to Dodgers signing him. They've shown interest in top guys before.
  13. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 06:39 PM) If other GM's think he is overpaid, then the return for him will be a low prospect since I don't see the Sox eating a large chunk of cash. If they just want to unload his salary, the return will be minimal. Not every GM will think he's overpaid though.
  14. I would definitely trade Robertson. I think he's actually really good. I just don't agree with paying relievers as much as he's being paid. I think they could get a good return for him, Jones or Burdi could get similar results, and the $$ could be spent elsewhere. They could get something for Duke as well. Mid market teams that haven't made the playoffs in 8 years shouldn't be paying closers $11 million per year.
  15. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 18, 2016 -> 11:36 PM) I feel like Robertson has been decent in saves situations but really bad in non save situations. Was this just rust? Better than decent. He had a 1.04 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 11 K/9 in save situations before tonight.
  16. I'd need Bregman, AJ Reed, and Frances Martes to start.
  17. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 18, 2016 -> 10:18 AM) Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but outside da dingers this season, Frazier has been pretty bad. He is currently rated 23rd in fWAR for 3B with the second worst defensive score, 4th worst UZR, 6th worst UZR/150 among qualified 3B. Not to mention he has been worth -2 DRS. He has the 2nd worst AVG and OBP among qualified 3B and a wRC+ of 100 which is the definition of league average. In short, while it's fun to look at his home run totals and see what could be, he has kinda been a disaster for the Sox this season. I don't buy those defensive metrics though at all. He's been solid defensively.
  18. I think a guy like Peter Bourjos could be a target. White Sox have been interested in him in the past. Talked about sending Hector Santiago to Angels for him.
  19. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 10:42 AM) Still a bit worried we whiffed by not taking Kyle Lewis, but have to love what most of the draft class is doing early on How did they whiff on Kyle Lewis?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 03:24 AM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/07/2017...rankings-4.html Obvious White Sox FA targets: Bautista/Encarnacion (both too old but won't stop a team from overpaying) Josh Reddick Ian Desmond (this time the cost will be 4-5 years and $60-80 million) Kenley Jansen or Aroldis Chapman (if they trade Robertson, which is highly unlikely) Wilson Ramos/Wieters (two obvious catching targets) Dexter Fowler Mark Trumbo Michael Saunders Carlos Gomez/Colby Rasmus Neil Walker Rich Hill Not a whole lot of talent at all to spread around the entire majors, this time around. Almost nothing on the starting pitching market, just a lot of spare parts and veteran relievers... And they can't really give up their 1st round pick to sign somebody.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 13, 2016 -> 01:20 AM) Which is, once again the reason why Lawrie, Frazier, Cabrera and Robertson won't be traded. The ONLY one of those that's defensible is Robertson, based on: 1) Clearing $22 million in salary (which can be used for a hitter/hitting/bench) 2) Believing Nate Jones is ready to step in 3) Having confidence that Fulmer/Burdi/Hansen/Danish/Ynoa/Guerrero/Stephens can help to fill the bullpen void this year and next 4) Getting back some additional pitching help in that deal...although hitting's the primary target as outlined below 5) Belief that one of Putnam/Petricka makes it back for next season (at the same performance level) Of course, if you're trading with the Cubs (for Robertson), you're asking for Baez or Almora, Jr., back in return. Almora can play CF, so you keep Eaton in RF. Not sure how ready they are to trade Baez. I think they're hedging their bets, and have already moved on from the idea of Soler being a significant contributor. That said, there's going to be a jam of DH/corner outfield types if Contreras doesn't stick at catcher and Schwarber isn't traded. I guess McKinney's the other player they would be targeting....as well as Vogelbach, although he seems to be one of those guys who puts up huge numbers in the minors but ends up a AAAA player in the end. Then again, he could surprise everyone, the "overlooked" prospect who made good despite being hyped less than guys like Lake and Alcantara. Why do you keep bringing this up? The Sox aren't trading Robertson to the Cubs. It's just not happening.
  22. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 12, 2016 -> 10:56 PM) I agree that there is close to zero chance that Hahn/Williams trade Frazier. But if they shore up other spots via that trade, they certainly could compete. He's no difference maker. Saladino should be getting more at bats the way this team is stacked up anyway. it would be nice to see what they have in him (although eagle-eye Hahn is likely convinced he's a utility infielder). While I realize that the prime motivation in drafting Burdi was this year's pen, it would be ridiculous to bring him up. I'm also convinced that Saladino is a utility infielder. He's a good one though.
  23. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 12, 2016 -> 11:08 PM) If the Sox are going to utilize Saladino he needs to play some OF to go along with his infield skills. I know he hurt his arm ( elbow ?) making a throw from the OF in the minors but so what . If he wants to play more and get more AB's than Avi he should be all for it. He's fast enough and athletic enough to play OF decently and would be worth more. Saladino can't play the OF anymore.
