  1. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 01:36 PM) i am saying with more intense words. take the BPA.... regardless of anything. so how is that the same theory esp when the sox org didn't follow it and found reason to justify their actions. now you have asked some interesting questions, how bout answering those question instead of diverting the the subject at hand.... You can't take BPA in the baseball draft. It doesn't work that way. Here's a scenario for you: A stud HS player that is a top 25 talent in the draft is on the board in the 3rd rd when the Sox pick. He has said that he wants $5 million or he's going to college. It's well known that this player is headed to college instead of pro. Would you still take this player in the 3rd round because he's technically the best draftable player currently?
  2. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 09:56 AM) and for a long time, they drafted players who they can sign, and forgot about players who had certain agents, those that may wanted a better salary etc..... that has stop b/c of the salary cap but still they still need to be aggressive in their scouting and players/prospects. Okay. I agree with that. I think they are doing that though. They signed Rodon.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 08:55 AM) Yeah terrible for anyone to find any sense of joy through this miserable season. A player actually outperforming his talent? Let's pop this balloon! We must only have players performing at historically awful levels! He's not outperforming his "talent". He's outperforming what was expected though. Maybe the light has gone on finally. He was a high draft pick. Being happy and being unrealistic is completely different. I've said many instances on twitter of people being way over the top about Trayce. That is most likely what the author sees as well. Saladino, Phegley, and many others started out really well too. We shall see.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 08:45 AM) Honestly that article is dumb and makes me hate baseball. How many people are even paying attention to the white sox now? 5? 6? Definitely required a self-righteous "let me counter this overwhelming hype machine for a white sox late season call-up that no national baseball reporter even mentioned" I think Sox fans are though.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 07:02 PM) Bad Badler hasn't seen his approach. He goes to right often and isn't overly aggresive to me at all. He has though in 5 minor league seasons. If I were a scout that has seen his last 5 years, I'd have the same opinion. Trayce is going to have to prove it. His minor league career doesn't suggest that his current run is sustainable. With that being said, I think he's definitely a major leaguer. Probably still a 4th OF type though.
  6. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 10:02 AM) excellent post. i think that the sox still does select draft picks that they feel as they can sign. however i think they also manipulate their draft strategy to make it happen, saving money elsewhere to reach the amount they will need to sign the player. this is pretty much what some teams are doing now, but with more fanfare. i just hope they don't fall into a rut in picking safe picks. but i also agree there is no more, not going after specific players whose agent is this person or that person. i think they need to continue to be aggressive in their selections.... but either way, i agree with you and again excellent analysis. Of course they only draft players that they can sign. Why would they draft players that won't sign? This happened around draft time as well. You clamored for them to take all these players that were definitely going to college. That doesn't make any sense.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 02:04 PM) why does bwar and fwar vary so greatly with alexei. Currently has a bWAR of 1.2 and fWAR of -0.1.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 8, 2015 -> 02:37 PM) This is about the only year I'm totally fed up with the organization, though it is very depressing they didn't build on '05. I almost have to agree with those who said it was a wonderful fluke. I mean the Blackhawks have shown how you should play during your "window" of excellence. Sox haven't done squat since winning it all and this year with the unexplainable roller coaster has been the worst type of year for a fan. It's been hard to enjoy baseball this year because of this. The Central Division has owned us again except for the, again wacky, 4-game sweep of Cleveland. This organization blows and it just has to get rid of Robin after the season because there's really no hope with him at the helm -- too dysfunctional a team with lousy fundamental skills. It's a no brainer. He doesn't need the money. Many managers have been fired and many more will in the future. That 2006 was awesome. I'm not going to fault them for winning 90 games and missing the playoffs.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 12:13 PM) There was talk about writers doing favors for ownership in their articles. This is one I think is 100% a favor to the White Sox. For sure. Levine was spoon fed the Melky Cabrera deal in the offseason and also had the KW/Toronto stuff. Sox use Levine for stuff all the time
  10. I have absolutely no idea how much $$ they want to spend. I'd stay away from QO free agents. I do believe that they plan on competing though. Cespedes would interest me for the OF without the QO attached. Zobrist and Guerero would interest me at 3B. Chris Davis as a DH option minus LaRoche would interest me as well. Maybe this is finally the year that Rick Hahn acquires Jason Castro. With Castro and Flowers, the White Sox would have 2 of the best pitch framers in baseball. Whether we all agree or not, they are not going to waste this rotation. They'll try and compete. It's what they do. Does this team have enough power? 1. Adam Eaton CF 2. Carlos Sanchez 2B 3. Jose Abreu 1B 4. Ben Zobrist 3B 5. Melky Cabrera LF 6. Jason Castro C 7. Avisail Garcia RF 8. Rotating DH (Micah, Trayce) 9. Tyler Saladino SS Is that enough to go with a rotation of: Sale/Quintana/Rodon/Fister,Kennedy type/Johnson and a bullpen with Robertson, Duke, Montas, and Jones at the back end?
  11. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 10:21 AM) Quick bottom line take on Ramirez. If you think the Sox will contend next year, maybe you sign him and hope for the best. If not, you don't. Why sign him and take away playing time for youngsters in order to win 75 games? Personally, I don't think Kenny is going anywhere. Robin isn't going anywhere. This team has gaping holes to fill at catcher, third base, DH and they are going to need another starting pitcher (Shark is gone). They are going to have to do this with less money since a lot of folks who bought season tickets this off season aren't coming back. JR is also still going to be "heavily involved" (Hahn's words from yesterday) is trying to fix this as well. I don't think the Sox are going to contend next season either...so why waste money on Ramirez? Mark Because they think they are.
  12. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 10:09 AM) I already (semi-jokingly) the other sports that go on at the time. However, if you're not a fan of Chicago sports teams in the winter, then I guess you could be more entertained. Anyway, wouldn't you rather be watching a game than following Winter Meetings rumors? Honestly, when the team is bad, I think I'd rather follow Hot Stove rumors.
  13. QUOTE (Dunt @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 08:35 AM) No, that is why I am asking if anyone read it so they could share it with us I just posted something in the interview thread as well. Check there.
  14. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 12:32 PM) Thanks all for the kind words! The whole experience was a pleasure, these guys were all class and very enjoyable to talk to. Also, as a follow-up on what Spencer Adams said about his delivery, ESPN's Keith Law noted when he scouted Adams recently that he is now pitching from the third base side of the pitching rubber as opposed to the first base side like he did in high school. Law says that is better for his deception but worse for his arm, as he is coming across his body more and "cutting himself off." Concerning, but sounds like J.R. Perdew and Spencer are aware of it and it is something they are working on. For the record, Adams was Keith Law's #94 prospect coming into the season. Law said that Adams had "Good control of ordinary stuff". Said he was 87-91 of mostly two-seamers. He had a fringy change up and below average slider. Law mentioned that there is still potential but it's a step backward from where he was before.
  15. I'd pick up Alexei's option. He could easily out produce that number and they don't have anyone to play there instead of him. Hopefully, he has a decent year and they can move him. Not picking it up and going with a utility player (Saladino) doesn't really make sense to me though.
  16. QUOTE (Dunt @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 08:09 AM) Did anyone happen to read the Keith Law blurb on Spencer Adams yesterday? Did you read what it said?
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 08:33 PM) I don't think there's any way he coaches on a 1 year deal. Even if it's just a 1 year extension, they'll add a year. This is a good point. They'll either extend him or move on. I fully expect him to be back but Hahn has stated that all options are on the table. I think they'd probably just say he's coming back if he were for sure.
  18. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 09:09 PM) The Sox are out of the race, they won't make the playoffs, etc. Game threads have gone down to My point is, I know we're not in the playoff race, but actually try to watch/follow/enjoy these final few weeks of Sox games, because a few months from now, we'll all be dying for White Sox baseball. Mid December is the baseball offseason (Hot Stove), NFL football, and hoops. I'll be just fine with no baseball for awhile.
  19. My plan would start with not giving away any draft picks period. I'm not signing a free agent with a QO. I'd rather sign Cespedes and a FA RHP. I think the 3B, C would have to be acquired via trade. I've mentioned before that I'd like to get Alex Guerrero somehow to play 3B. I wouldn't be dealing Quintana unless I got a Puiglike return. Roll with pitching and patch together enough offense.
  20. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 10:55 AM) I think it's pretty s***ty he doesn't get more of a chance. Given the crap that some teams throw out there, and this guy can't even get a third string role somewhere? Pretty crazy. He's just not an NFL QB. He's been let go by Josh McDaniels, John Fox, Bill Belichick, Rex Ryan, and Chip Kelley. If he could play, one of those men would have kept him. He needed a position switch and just never did it.
  21. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 11:34 AM) I'm fine with it as long as we would also somehow improve upon both catcher and 1 outfielder as well. I'd look to acquire some sort of 3B. I'd look into the possibility of getting Alex Guerrero from the Dodgers somehow. He has a contract clause though that would have to be taken care of. Cespedes makes sense because he wouldn't cost a draft pick. Ideally, they could upgrade catcher and keep Flowers as the backup. I also wouldn't be opposed to moving Danks and signing a guy like Doug Fister/Ian Kennedy for the rotation. The thing that I wouldn't do is trade Quintana. I'd roll with a rotation of Sale/Q/Rodon/Johnson/Free Agent/Fulmer at some point. Back end of the bullpen with Robertson/Jones/Montas. I'd be fine with Saladino at SS but not 3B.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 09:50 AM) It isn't looking good for Kane to walk away from this with nothing. I was watching the news yesterday, and since this is going to be presented to a grand jury, the legal expert said prosecutors must be pretty confident they have enough to take it trial. Lazerus also wrote last week that the Hawks are very image conscious. Enough so to where they always have to put a Blackhawks cap on during interviews. In his story he mentioned how Hossa had to delay being questioned after a game until he found a hat. He also said he was told Kane was told that the incident in Madison was his final strike. There is a decent chance Kaner is done with the Blackhawks. So image conscious that habitual wife beater Bobby Hull is a fixture of the organization.
  23. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 5, 2015 -> 05:17 PM) If you were wondering who the last player to play for both Chicago teams in the same season--- 2003 Josh Paul The five before that... 1998 Matt Karchner 1990 Bill Long 1981 Lynn McGlothen 1977 Steve Renko 1972 Phil Regan Bonifacio is doing it as well
  24. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 01:53 PM) Suppose the he accepts the QO. What would his status be at the end of next season? Same as right now. The White Sox could offer him a QO and receive 1st rounder.
  25. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 12:51 PM) Not really, the expected WAR is about 1. Yes maybe the Sox can make a good pick, but the chances the guy ever even makes MLB is 50/50 at best. If you can't understand why it's a valuable pick, I can't really help you.
