QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 08:32 PM) Nice. Dunn was looking like the obvious choice for Comeback Player Of The Year, but as of now, Rios is probably the favorite. Alex barely cleared a .600 OPS in 570 AB - he finished with a negative 0.7 WAR. It's hard for me to support a guy who has his head way up his ass. If he gets to 40 bombs, which he will, he is comeback Player of the Year. Dunn has always been one of my favorite players. When the Sox got him I was ecstatic. I honestly think that I'd almost rather him not be on the team though sometimes. He helps the team win games but I can't deal with the amounts of stupid that a player like Dunn brings upon White Sox fans. I just don't know if I can read about Dunn being bad at baseball for the next two years. Man, I love how the internet lets the stupid be stupid with no consequence.

Rios and Dunn not moving in batting order
Y2Jimmy0 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I knew that a large segment of White Sox fans would never agree with the Dunn experience. We have two more years of hearing about it. Joy -
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 6, 2012 -> 09:55 PM) Very nice start for Axelrod. 3/4 for Sanchez. Sanchez have an outside shot at a 2013 call up if he continues this pace and Beckham continues his?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 6, 2012 -> 11:24 PM) Not at all. You just won't hear about players being claimed on waivers because it's generally pretty private unless it is a very high profile name. Even then it takes some speculation - with both Rios and Manny, it was fairly obvious the Sox have claimed them both, but there was never any confirmation for either one of them until the other team just let him go (Rios) or trade negotiations stalled and the original team found it worthwhile enough just to let him go (Manny). Nobody knew that Danny Valencia, Wil Nieves, or Jose Mijares had been claimed on waivers (and the latter's a pretty damn good reliever), but they've all been claimed/traded and went through waivers pretty easily. If someone is released, then it's an actual transaction made by the organization and you are required to notify MLB of it. If there isn't a press release notifying the public of the move, it will be notated somewhere and any sports site will make note of the transaction. That's the difference. Thanks for the clarification. I just misinterpreted what you said. Fontenot is a free agent now though. I would imagine he signs with someone within the next few days.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2012 -> 08:12 AM) CF's a harder position, may as well put him there eh? I think Hawkins ends up in RF but there is no reason not to let him play CF in the minors. Trayce Thompson is a guy that most saw as having a classic RF profile too but he is supposedly playing great defense in CF in High A.

QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Aug 6, 2012 -> 10:23 AM) Has Friday's protest been officially responded to yet? What do we know about Liriano's injury? I saw somewhere today that MLB has denied the Angels request. Sox win. Also, Gonzalez just tweeted that Liriano will start Saturday vs Oakland. I imagine that means, Floyd Friday and Sale on Sunday.

QUOTE (Cali @ Aug 5, 2012 -> 06:14 PM) I'm 95% sure Kenny will sell high on Q this off-season (Assuming he doesn't completely implode here down the stretch...which is looking likely after his last few starts) I also think Liriano is back. I also think Kenny trades Quintana in the offseason. Ideally, they act like the big market team that they are and bring back Liriano and Peavy. Sale, Peavy, Liriano, Danks, RH FA/Trade. I think Floyd gets traded as well.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 01:02 PM) An Ex-Sox pick that a lot of people were upset we didn't sign. Kevin Goldstein @Kevin_Goldstein The Philadelphia Phillies have released LHP Bryan Morgado, a 4th-round pick in 2010. I saw this too. Wonder if KW will have renewed interest. Has he been really bad?

Thompson pushing his way back into consideration
Y2Jimmy0 replied to caulfield12's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 01:12 PM) Without ever having seen Thompson, I get a BJ Upton impression of him, based soley on the numbers and the scout descriptions. I have never seen him in person either. Hopefully, Thompson's power translates though. Upton hasn't had the power that people thought he would. At least, lately. He hit 24 HR in 2007 and 23 HR last year. He has 9 this year. Upton is not a bad player but I still think of him as a disappointment because of what he was supposed to be. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 11:44 PM) I am intrigued by Walker as well but I understand the reasons why some prospect people are not. He does still have strikeout issues just like Mitchell and Thompson. Walker did a lot of it in A ball and he was old for that level. I am curious to see how he does finishing the year in Birmingham. He will be in an OF corner though because Thompson needs to stay in CF to enhance his value. Trayce has big time strikeout issues but if he can be a run producer that can play above average defense in CF rather than a corner, it obviously makes him a much better prospect. Thompson and Walker are in Winston Salem together. I said Birmingham by mistake.

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 09:05 PM) After going through this I looked up Keenyn Walker's stats and holy s***. Why isn't this guy getting more notice? .291/.401/.414 line this year with 47 SB so far. I am intrigued by Walker as well but I understand the reasons why some prospect people are not. He does still have strikeout issues just like Mitchell and Thompson. Walker did a lot of it in A ball and he was old for that level. I am curious to see how he does finishing the year in Birmingham. Trayce has big time strikeout issues but if he can be a run producer that can play above average defense in CF rather than a corner, it obviously makes him a much better prospect.

I created another thread starting the topic already but what is everyone's opinion of Mike Fontenot. He was DFA'd by Philadelphia today. While he is not great, he has played SS in the past and is better than Olmedo.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/08/dodg...assignment.html The Dodgers announced that they designated Bobby Abreu for assignment. The move creates room for Shane Victorino on Los Angeles' active roster. The Angels released Abreu in April after a disappointing opening month, and the Dodgers signed him to a minor league deal a week later. Though Abreu's power has disappeared, he continues to get on base at an above-average rate. The 38-year-old has posted a .246/.347/.340 batting line in 236 total plate appearances this year. The 17-year MLB veteran earns a $9MM salary, but any team can sign him for a pro-rated portion of the MLB minimum if he reaches free agency. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/08/phil...assignment.html The Phillies announced that they designated infielder Mike Fontenot for assignment. The move creates roster space for utility player Michael Martinez, who has been recalled from Triple-A. Fontenot, 32, has a .289/.343/.340 batting line in 105 plate appearances this year. He has split his time between second and third since signing a minor league deal with Philadelphia in April. Fontenot could interest teams seeking infield depth as a potential trade candidate. Will the White Sox have any interest in Mike Fontenot? He is not very good but is better than Ray Olmedo and has played SS in the past. Abreu is of no interest to the White Sox anymore but I would think that Detroit should be interested.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 08:22 AM) LOL, I think we all know the answer to that question. But the thing is, there is no way he is the #1 prospect in the system by anyone's actual standards. He's listed #1 there because its the Sox site, and they want to make it look like they didn't mess up with that trade. Molina is lower half of top 10 right now, if even that. In my opinion, Courtney Hawkins is the #1 prospect in the system and if people have Trayce Thompson at #2 at this point, it is not a reach.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 02:01 PM) MLBN reporting that Span vetoed a trade to the Reds. How does Denard Span have veto power? That can't be true.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 10:06 AM) Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN Since back in June, Reds have quietly evaluated Juan Pierre as possible target. Won't cost much, great clubhouse guy, good # against RHP. Damn. I was hoping KW would get him back to platoon him with Viciedo.

Ex-Sox Dan Evans talks about the Front Office at deadline time
Y2Jimmy0 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 08:01 AM) Tons of great information in this article. Wonderful read. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article....articleid=17826 I heard Evans on the radio a few weeks ago and he was very good there as well. Thanks for posting. Good stuff. -
SUNDAY, 12:51am: The Brewers will receive right-handed reliever Fautino De Los Santos in the trade according to Susan Slusser of The San Francisco Chronicle. The 26-year-old pitched to a 7.25 ERA in 36 Triple-A innings this year and owns a 4.21 ERA with 11.4 K/9 and 5.0 BB/9 in 36 1/3 big league innings with Oakland over the last two seasons. MLBTRADERUMORS Brewers sent C George Kottaras to Oakland on Saturday. In return, Milwaukee gets one of our old friends. I actually thought De Los Santos had the chance to be pretty special.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 08:50 AM) FWIW: KW has had an offer out there for a while now for Greinke. It's substantial and includes key mlb roster talent. Sox are very determined to land him. Bucket, I know that you have inside info and I don't expect you to give up your sources. Do you have exact player names though? I know you won't tell us and you shouldn't but do you know the names or do you just know that it's significant? If so, what are your feelings? We have seen the names thrown around. Will White Sox fans be angry if the deal happens?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 12:03 PM) Bourjo's has some nice tools for a potential leadoff hitter, but the production hasn't exactly been there. Getting Shields for Bourjos would have been very foolish of the Rays and a major coup for the Angels. That said, I think Bourjo's is a quality chip the Angels have to offer the Marlins and/or Brewers in the competition for Greinke/Johnson. Bourjos could allow them to finally flip Upton though. CJ Cron is the guy that I would want in a Shields trade. Shields has 2 years left on his deal. Bourjos, Conger, and Cron too much for Shields? Probabaly. That's what I'd ask for though.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 08:35 AM) Judging by the attendance we had about 3000 comp tickets in attendance last night. I haven't see that mentioned yet, but just wanted to throw that on the fire. I think Adam Hoge of the Score tweeted last night that Mark Gonzalez had said that there were about 3,000 tickets given to some sort of youth group.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 08:20 AM) Jeez, they got nothing for Hanley. Yeah I mean they got his salary paid. How is that enough though? Ramirez was one of the best players in baseball up until 2 years ago? Eovaldi is a good arm. Some scouts think he's a late inning reliever but I would imagine he goes into Miami's rotation with Jacob Turner. I don't know much about the other pitcher from the Dodgers. Hanley Ramirez was worth a lot more than that though. I would imagine if Texas wants Josh Johnson like everyone is saying then he will be a Ranger by the weekend. Marlins should demand Olt in return but at this rate they'd probably accept a hell of a lot less than that.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 11:25 PM) 11:05pm: The Cubs are asking the Dodgers for minor league pitcher Allen Webster as the centerpiece of a Dempster trade, reports Morosi (Twitter link). 6:55pm: It's possible that the Dodgers could acquire Dempster from the Cubs without having to surrender Lee, a source tells Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com (Twitter link). 5:34pm: The Dodgers are holding out on including pitching prospect Zach Lee in a potential Dempster trade, sources tell Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com (Twitter link). 4:20pm: The Cubs are talking to the Dodgers about Dempster again, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports. Webster is a pretty good prospect with a nice sinker. Would be a good return for Cubs. I thought they'd be lucky to get a Chris Reed type.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 09:08 PM) From what little I know about the prospects, looks like a decent deal for the Pirates. Pirates fans were upset on MLBTRADERUMORS but I think it's a good deal. Grossman is a pretty good prospect but the Bucs have 3 OF prospects that are better than he is. The other 2 guys are Lefties with #3-4 starter upside. They didn't give up any of their big time prospects and got a pitcher that is almost 2 WAR. It's an upgrade definitely.
