It’s not about the best player available in baseball. It’s about maximizing the bonus pool space and getting as much talent as possible for the finite amount of funds afforded. Chris Getz thought Hagen Smith would be a front of the rotation starter (still very possible) and he trusted the orgs pitching development to maximize that player. He thought it was a better idea than Konnor Griffin (swing change) and Jac Caglianone (corner profile, chase rate) etc. The White Sox had no hitting infrastructure in place yet and Ryan Fuller was still employed by the Orioles. The medical team also red flagged JJ Wetherholt. I would’ve taken Konnor Griffin.

They're picking in a weird. It just depends on the craziness in front of them. None of these players are worth the slot values so teams will be deal hunting early. He didn't. Best player on the board though.
-
I think they'd take Steele Hall in this scenario.
-
I don’t think they’re interested in Bremner. He doesn’t get any extension. Not their type. For any player who submitted medicals, teams have to go 75% of slot value. Sox slot is $6.2 million. They could do Schoolcraft for like $4.5ish million but that’s the lowest. He’s not in their mix at 10 according to the scouting director. I have no idea what Bauer’s number is.

He's getting traded. There's no way that they pick up a $20 million option. He's a great fit for the Phillies. They are horrible against LHP and he has a 144 wRc+ vs LHP with great defense. There's still some value. -
Keith Law’s latest has them taking Kruz Schoolcraft at 10 with Parker and Hall on the board. I’d be very surprised
-
I’d be pretty surprised by either of these scenarios. I think the two college guys Shirley referenced to Merkin are Kilen and Houston and I’d be pretty surprised if either were the pick at this point. I think the pitchers in question are Jamie Arnold and Kyson Witherspoon. I’ll be pretty surprised if it’s not a prep hitter at 10. I was shocked last year though.

Yobal Rodriguez gave up two runs today,. He's now at 21.1 IP with a 0.84 ERA and 22 strikeouts.

2026 MLB Draft Thread...Sox likely a Top 3 pick here
Y2Jimmy0 replied to caulfield12's topic in FutureSox Board
Colorado and Washington are very likely to pick 10 and 11 next year. -
Maybe. He's R5 eligible
-
I’ve been saying for a year that Chris Getz made the decision in Hagen Smith. I totally get it. I would’ve taken Griffin though.
-
It's owners vs owners vs players though. There's no way the majority of the owners are going to be willing to miss games when they'll never have a salary cap anyway. Union leadership is out of touch with the rank and file. The players always cave in general but the rank and file can't afford to miss paychecks. There will likely be a prolongued stoppage again but I think they play 162.
-
Yeah I'd be really surprised if they actually missed any games.
-
Thanks. I appreciate that. I fixed it. Thanks for looking out. Good catch. Going 31 overall would be insane. Yeah Billy Carlson would be fun if they can get him. The brother is a super young dude who likely sticks in CF. Interested to see where he goes.

Here it is: https://www.futuresox.net/2025/06/30/2025-mlb-mock-draft-v2-0/ They're all below Smith, yes. And the top college bats would've likely gone in the teens last year.

I think Hall goes 12 to Texas if it’s not the Sox. He’s not a reach. I’d be unhappy with any of the college pitchers, personally.
-
Taylor is on a significant innings limit and they determined that pitching in relief in majors was better long-term than him making 3 inning starts in minors. Schultz will be in the big league rotation in 2026. He needs innings. I don’t know that AAA is necessary but the Sox believe it is.
-
These are both crazy. Schultz is fine. It's a new baseball and he's not using his entire repertoire by design. I don't care about the results in Charlotte at all. It is an issue that he didn't get any innings though. That's the priority. He'll finish the year in the majors.
-
I don’t agree. I hate this college class. I’d rather pay Steele Hall $6 million then do another Jacob Gonzalez situation.

No indicators Sox are building around speed
Y2Jimmy0 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
They're very clearly targeting players who make good swing decisions and don’t chase. They know that they need power. Power costs money though. -
I don’t think Hall will be much of a discount at 10. Carlson and Parker definitely won’t be. If it’s a prep guy, I’m guessing it’s minimum $6 million at 10. I think they spend $3 million at 44 and between $1.5-$2 million at 76. I think they’ll try to push Fauske or Gamble to 44.
-
That’s the question. He’s 17 so it’s a much better gamble than all these 50 hit college guys imo Sox will be very prep heavy. I’d guess way over slot at 44 and 76. There will be “punting”.

Bruce Levine did say this morning that he expects them to spend some money on position players this winter.

They aren’t picking up his option. They’ll take the best deal offered by the deadline.
