  1. But the Sox have come out and said they’re actively pursing the whales. By default, Reinsdorf is already aligned unless our front office is completely incompetent and did not run this plan by him. Jerry is also old as fuck and probably a bit more eager to spend some money than in years past, but that’s just my assumption. There is nothing but random speculation connecting the Dodgers to Harper. What we know is they have communicated to potential investors they plan to stay under the luxury tax over the next few years. We also know Friedman is a bit more conservative when it comes to pay market value for start free agents. Until I hear from Ken Rosenthal or someone of that nature, I don’t buy any of these rumors to be nothing more Boras-fueled leaks.
  2. It’s different because Friedman does this by choice. He’s had near unlimited financial resources and still hasn’t signed a player to a huge contract. He values depth & flexibility and signing record breaking contracts take away from that. The Sox in this case would also be paying for star power, which helps offset the ridiculous $400M cost. The Dodgers aren’t able to realize anywhere we could from a Harper signing.
  3. Friedman has never signed a free agent to a $100M contract with the Dodgers. Him paying close to $400M for Harper (an overpay on performance alone) does not fit his style. He can probably get slightly less production from Pollack for a fraction of the cost. Yes, Harper provides far more upside, but comes with huge long-term risks attached. I truly don’t see Friedman doing that no matter how badly the media wants to create that narrative.
  4. To me, these Dodgers leaks are clearly coming from the Boras camp. Make the White Sox their their offer isn’t good and bid against themselves.
  5. Well hopefully we use our newfound powers to embed some positive ones!
  6. Paste as “plaint text” and it hopefully solves the problem!
  7. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Cubs?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Cubs</a> seem finically tied up, but I would never count them out in a race of a hot top target free agent like <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Machado?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Machado</a> and <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Harper?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#Harper</a>. Nothings of the table</p>&mdash; Sports Daily (@Sportsdaily079) <a href="https://twitter.com/Sportsdaily079/status/1072783141042040833?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">December 12, 2018</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
  8. Lol...I don’t even know what a “share url” address, which might be why I’m having the same problem. Might need to test one out.
  9. Why do I care what the Red Sox did? Yoan had a 28% K rate in AAA. Not sure if you didn’t notice, making contact was kind of a problem for him last year. Don’t think it’s crazy to think more time in AAA would of had him better prepared to deal with major league pitching. But by all means, be a total dick instead of asking what I meant.
  10. It’s one thing to be disappointed or even worried with Moncada’s performance, but he was always goto take a bit longer to develop, especially when you consider we kind of rushed him.
  11. Way too early to say Moncada has failed and while far less likely at this point Giolito could still be a useful rotation piece.
  12. Keuchel, Kikuchi, & Morton are the only attractive starters left on the market. At some point, teams with pitching needs will have to look toward the trade market. Feels like a Kluber (or Bauer) trade should hopefully materialize soon and that should open things up a bit.
  13. I don’t think not getting Happ makes them more likely to get Harper or Machado. I think they just move to Keuchel or possibly Morton.
  14. Good news I guess? Gives them less of a reason to trade Andujar for pitching right?
  15. I’m fine with Grandal on a multi-year deal regardless of what happens with the whales, but Brantley doesn’t make much sense for us IMo unless paired with Machado and even then I wouldn’t want to go three years.
  16. Something needs to happen, whether or not it’s Sox related.
  17. 100% agree. And I find this whole leak game to be hilarious, because does someone like Friedman actually read this and go “hmmm, maybe my $300M offer is good enough to win!”. I mean, it doesn’t hurt to try, but I always wonder the effective of these leak wars.
  18. That fact it came from Nightengale tells me it was a Sox oriented leak intended to misdirect. That’s how we’ve been using him these past few years.
  19. One thing of interest during the MLBN coverage yesterday was an insider said that Phillies have indicated they don’t need to land a Harper or Machado, won’t wait around forever for them, and will not let their agents bully them into bidding against themselves. I’ll keep repeating, but neither agent will want to lose the Phillies (or Sox) from the bidding process, so there’s only so much of a long game Boras can actually play until it becomes counter-productive. Unless Harper is willing to forego large sums to avoid playing for us or the Phillies, I think Boras has to love with a sense of urgency and capitalize on the desperation of these two teams before one moves onto Machado or other things.
