Honestly, there is still time for that trade to pay off, but they need one sure fire contributor out of it and it can’t just be Iriarte as a setup guy. Either Thorpe has to come back healthy with a bit more velocity than we saw and make his fastball less hittable or Iriarte has to correct his fastball shape and get his K rate back in check or Zavala has to fix his swing / approach and be a dude who can make some contract and impact a baseball.

I would 100% take Crawford right now. Sounds like The Phillies wouldn’t do it, but if they had some balls and actually want to beat the Dodgers in the post season they should swing for the fences with a Robert trade.

I agree. Not having CHSN on major platforms is likely killing them. We made a significant amount of money off our previous TV deal and can’t imagine OTA advertising money is coming in anywhere close to that amount.

He’s an easy hold IMO because you simply buy him out or more likely dump him for pennies at the deadline.

There is zero chance we are that hard up for cash with a $60 payroll. Don’t get me wrong, I get the feeling Jerry is going cheaper than usual to offset any losses he incurred last year, but zero reason to believe he’d have to move additional salary to get there. If they are desperate to move Robert, it’s because they’re worried he won’t return much come July. I don’t buy that either, but it’s at least theoretically possible.

@Sambuca - How was SoxFest for you and your boy?

No idea where to put this, but Vargas looked noticeably thicker on Friday night when they introduced all the players. It was the one thing that caught my eye and I saw Sox Machine comment on it as well. That obviously doesn’t impact if or where he should play defensively, but the added muscle should hopefully help with the bat and provide some reason for optimism.

Would be a pretty awesome staff IMO. Are the Bears keeping Hightower as their special teams coordinator?

Yeah, it was a bit odd. You can certainly try to bring some balls in, but I’m pretty sure they were taking them at security. Not sure what people were getting signed, but I do know autographs were happening.

Yes, I believe there should be two meet & greet sessions for non MVP packages. Just make sure you bring something small for them to sign because they were confiscating baseballs and bigger stuff at the entrance.

I’m truly sorry for what you have endured. But that doesn’t take away the feelings the rest of us have and we shouldn’t have to feel bad about it. My point that you quoted was certainly not to mock you in any way, but rather emphasize that something I had dreamed the moment I had kids has been taken away from me because this org can’t find a way to be even mildly competent. No doubt there are bigger problems in life and I will survive, but it just sucks when something that should only provide joy ends up providing much sorrow.
