Is it me it did it seem like Jackson didn't give 100% chasing down that ball?
-
Holy f*** this sucks.
-
Nice call Robin, get this bum out of here!

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 08:46 PM) Abreu looking much better lately. Getting around on pitches much better lately. Definitely, first time I've felt optimistic about him in weeks.
-
QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 08:45 PM) Pitching depth is great, lets see what we got in Shields however. Fair enough, just think Shields will bring much more certainty/consistency than Latos & Gonzalez.
-
Nice at-bat A-jax!
-
And to think some posters thought we didn't need pitching right away. Thank god we got James Shields. Latos might not get more than one more start at this pace.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 06:28 PM) Hopefully it's something like Adderal and he drops to 26. 100% agree. Would be a phenomenal get as long he wasn't busted for PEDs.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 08:37 PM) I think Sands will finally be gone before Tuesday's game. I win! -
QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 07:13 AM) Over his last 28 days, Adam Engel is hitting .310/.389/.480. That's pretty encouraging. Even if he can maintain a low .700s OPS, he provides a ton of value in his defense and base running. Is that including his A+ numbers?

Are Melky & Jackson back yet?
-
Hopefully we see a better Latos tonight. With Gonzalez waiting in the wings, Mat has to be sharp if we wants to hold onto that rotation spot. I don't envision the coaching staff giving him a very long leash.

White Sox Acquire James Shields

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 06:52 AM) There are zero fans who expect James Shields to be an ace. Where do you get that? Yup, I'd be ecstatic if he could be a #3, with my expection that he'll be a #4. His days as an ace are long gone & most fans are already aware of this. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 06:28 AM) I think people are looking at Anderson's last 6 weeks instead of his whole season because he typically starts extremely slow. They are. Plus it's foolish to compare Anderson's full-season OPS to guys like Sanchez, Garcia, & Coats who are in their 2nd or 3rd AAA season, let alone ignore the obvious difference in tools.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 10:34 PM) WAR, WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Flashback to Chris Rock/Jackie Chan scene in Rush Hour. Isn't that Chris Tucker in Rush Hour? -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 09:33 PM) If you haven't watched it already, Narcos on Netflix. It's about Pablo Escobar. The best part about the show is how it's narrated and how the story is presented. It's surreal that some of the things in the show actually happened in Colombia. Fantastic show. When will season 2 be available?

White Sox Acquire James Shields

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 08:46 PM) Very good. An interesting was the stats professor discussing why WAR is so flawed especially for pitchers. He had an interesting take on it. One I hadn't thought of. Yeah, I was surprised to hear his view on WAR. While it's no doubt a great stat, it is ultimately flawed. Shields is a great example why too. His one horrific start brings his total value down significantly, but in reality that one start is contained to that day. He could give up a 100 runs in a given start and it would only be worth one loss, but would f*** up his WAR for the season no matter how well he pitched in all other games. While that's an extreme example, he only gave up 22 runs in his first 8 starts this year, while giving up 10 in his most recent. Those quality starts are worth more than 0.4 wins, even if you account for the one game he lost in epic fashion. -
QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 06:46 AM) I wonder why it is that all over baseball the stupidest people are managing while millions of fans are sitting in the stands who could do it better. Just follow the stats and conventional wisdom. All it really takes is a decent phone and a good internet connection. Look up what to do in each situation and do it. Jeez, how simple can it be? Ugh, same old tired argument. Apparently the 30 smartest & most qualified people in the world are currently managing MLB teams. Might as well shut down this site then. If fans aren't allowed to challenge poor decision-making or even deem a certain manager bad relative to his peers, what else is off limits? I guess the GMs don't make mistakes either, so us "arm chair" GMs really can't question them either. At least we're allowed to rip the players, right Tex? I find it laughable that people continue to defend a guy who literally had no coaching experience before taking the job. The entire hiring process was laughable, ignoring his complete lack of a resume and not interviewing any alternatives. No doubt we had to get the guy with the "Five Star General" traits before the rest of the league realized he was available. And I can already hear the next bulls*** defense coming: he played in the majors for 15 years. Lol at anyone who actually thinks that justifies his hiring.

Robin Ventura should be fired today
Chicago White Sox replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 10:40 PM) I don't think his point is that the Sox should keep necessarily RV. I think it is anyone expecting any kind of measurable improvement from the team after he's gone is being unrealistic. The team will rise or fall on the backs of the best players. Right now they aren't playing like impact or even good players. Perhaps that's all true, but every game matters and if replacing Robin with Renteria provides us with even one additional win then it's a move worth making. -

QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 10:14 PM) You're right. But as a manager, it's easy to manage when times are good and everything's clicking. It's when times are bad, your true talents/skills shine. (Or don't in this case) Great post. -

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 09:43 PM) I thought he did a really good job with it, good episode but the next one looks like the usual 1 per season WOAH episode. As good as the next episode looks, episode 9 might end up being the best in the series (to date at least). And I thought tonight's was one of the best of the season so far. Every scene was good, but the way they re-introduced the Hound was very well done. -

QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 08:05 PM) Managers have little effect on the game This is one of the worst arguments for keeping Robin. The dude completely sucks at his job, but because some Fangraphs article says managers don't matter, I guess we should keep him right? Let's ignore an obvious area of potential improvement because it may only be worth a game or two in the long run. And quite frankly, I think it may worth more than that. Just like we're seeing in the valuation of high-end relievers, context does matter and a manager has the ability to impact the outcome of close games. No doubt it's hard to quantify their value, but that doesn't mean they have little impact on the game. Honestly, how many of you apologists still have Robin Ventura posters hanging in your basements? Robin was my favorite player growing up, but you know what, that doesn't mean I can't objective about his abilities as a manager. The guy has accomplished nothing in his tenure with us. He is one of the worst in-game managers I can remember in a long time. I can't think of one positive he provides other than not bringing clubhouse issues to the media. I'm sure the team likes playing for him because he is a nice, laid back guy. Unfortunately, his leadership style isn't working and a change is needed. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 07:30 PM) Greg Walker was the big problem when he was here. Not the players, not anything else. He gets fired, and the offense was fixed. Nope. I.would.rather the Sox do something player wise.it actually produces results. Why can't we do both? The players and the manager are BOTH problems. Why do you continue to act like we can only address one or the other? Let's get rid of Robin and improve our roster. This isn't an either or thing.
