QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 31, 2013 -> 11:13 PM) I never root for injuries, but I would love to see the Strasburg situation blow up in Washington's face. So easy to root against them. Totally agree.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 31, 2013 -> 11:18 PM) It's like he keeps expecting the team from the first 4 1/2 months last year to just magically appear out of thin air if he's just patient enough. Yeah, I think it's critical for a manager to have a certain amount of patience, but at some point you have to shake things up a bit. First off, move Dunn down in the lineup and never play him against a lefty again. Instead give Casper Wells some god damn at-bats or else call someone else up more useful. Start playing Gimenez more against righties. Move De Aza down in the lineup. Bat Gillaspie leadoff against righties if necessary. Group as many of our "hot" hitters at the top of the lineup and hope we can string multiple hits together in a row. Anything is better than seeing this same mess of a lineup every single day.

QUOTE (Baron @ May 31, 2013 -> 11:16 PM) I bet the lineup is the exact same tomorrow I think Robin may be more stubborn than Ozzie.

This is just laughable. Officially time to do something, anything else. f*** you very much White Sox offense & bullpen!

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 31, 2013 -> 11:04 PM) If Thornton came in to start this inning and they scored, Ventura would have been roasted. I'vs got to be honest, I don't like bringing in relievers with a runner in scoring position and no outs, so I was fine with the decision. Also, Matt Thornton is just a total coward and should not be used in high leverage situations if possible.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 31, 2013 -> 11:00 PM) I'll say this much, please let Axelrod stay in. Nice work asshole.

QUOTE (flavum @ May 31, 2013 -> 10:48 PM) Yeah, and they should hire Robin Ventura as manager. Oh wait... I'll take the guy off the street with no manergial experience over the player-manager 10 times out of 10. Good thing there were only two options out there to manage the White Sox.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 31, 2013 -> 10:41 PM) Sox are playing with fire not scoring any runs. Gotta get Dunn out of the 4 spot. Stack the hitters and hope they can produce amongst themselves. We got to get Dunn off this team. I tried to be optimistic earlier this season and thought he was turning things around when he had that little hot stretch, but he is a f***ing joke. A dozen HRs doesn't make up for a .153 AVG & .245 OBP. He's killing our offense batting cleanup on a daily basis.

Johnson through 5 on only 50 pitches. ERA now below 2.00.

QUOTE (flavum @ May 31, 2013 -> 07:35 PM) They should have just tried to win a championship last year. No doubt about it. They would have had a great chance to win it all last year. Got to take advantage of those opportunities when they come around, because nothing is ever promised tomorrow.

How many years/dollars would you give to Granderson?
Chicago White Sox replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think Granderson would make sense as a potential Dunn replacement IF he'll give us a hometown discount and take a short-term contract. Something along the lines of two years, $18 million. Have him DH half the time and hopefully that would reduce some of the wear and tear. Obviously this is all dependent on him finishing this season healthy and productive. -
Conor Gillaspie is not a good player
Chicago White Sox replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
We all need to remember if a prospect ain't Mike Trout from day one then he will always suck. Young players simply don't improve over time, especially not ones that are already 25 years old. Gillaspie should probably hang up his cleats now before he continues embarrassing himself and all us SoxTalk meatheads. -
Make a crazy trade idea

QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 31, 2013 -> 05:08 PM) Craziest Trade Idea........................... is for Rick Hahn to trade who he wants without KW involved with his veto power. How many moves has KW vetoed so far? -

QUOTE (SoIL @ May 31, 2013 -> 09:21 AM) Yes Gillaspie was traded for, not released. Hard to take someone yelling MEATHEADS seriously when they don't know or bother to look up the facts. Certainly is funny though. This is the same poster who yesterday said the only reason the rest of us meatheads didn't realize the Cubs were way better than the Sox was because they are in a division with the Cardinals. This would imply that the Cubs have the played the Cardinals a lot this season. Upon five seconds of research, I determined the Cubs have played the Cardinals TWICE all year. Unfortunately for the original poster, facts aren't a meathead's best friend. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 31, 2013 -> 08:57 AM) Why is there no chance of this? Just curious as to your reasons. If they feel like he's the best guy they could take him. It does seem unlikely since they took two HS catchers last year, one in the 7th round and another in the 17th round who was a big overslot signing. Neither guy is in full-season ball yet, so you're really looking at a real logjam next year at Kannapolis if you select a HS catcher in the 1st round. Obviously you can't rule it out completely, but I think this guy would have to be the undisputed BPA or else they'd look at other positions or players who could help a little sooner.

I think the real takeaway from this thread is that Buddy Bell has been too aggressive with these guys. Mitchell never should have been promoted to AAA last year, let alone start there this year. Walker had 143 ABs in high A last year, so I'm not sure why they decided to send him to AA this year. Hawkins I'm torn on because he was such a monster last year. In hindsight, low A probably makes more sense to be a little conservative and he still would have been on the young side for the league. Having said that, I was ok with the high assignment this year. Nothing in his performance last season would have foreshadowed his K problem this year, even with an aggressive assignment.

Short of a miraculous rebound from him in the 2nd half, I hope they simply release Dunn this coming offseason. This team has enough offensive problems as is and having a black hole at DH is just icing on the cake. I just don't see any value in keeping him if he's in his last year of his contract and hopefully Hahn & Jerry agree.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 30, 2013 -> 05:02 PM) Yes, it's definitely not a huge edge with Gavin out and Danks not close to being 100%. I don't think Wood will continue to pitch at the insane level that he has, but Edwin Jackson is not as bad as he's pitched this year. Both teams have had very good starting pitching so far this year, but both teams saw their pitching fall apart during the 2nd half last season. It will be interesting to see which of the pitchers in Chicago take the next step to become strong finishers to the season. Let me ask you this, would you swap pitching staffs with the Cubs right now? Answer this question with the assumption that you can set the rotation however you like, you don't necessarily have to go with either team's current 5 starters. I think the big disagreement we'll have is on Travis Wood. You think he's way more talented than I do. I see a guy pitching way above his talent level and who is ready for some serious regression, especially when the weather starts getting warm on a consistent basis. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 30, 2013 -> 04:59 PM) Maybe I missed it, but did anyone say the Cubs were more talented THIS year? QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 30, 2013 -> 03:53 PM) The Cubs are simply a better and more talented team than the White Sox - the White Sox just happen to not be in a division with the Cardinals so they get to tease the silly idiots who think they have a chance a little bit longer. -

QUOTE (fathom @ May 30, 2013 -> 04:53 PM) Aren't they pretty similar in terms of on the field talent? Neither team has much positional talent, Sox have a HUGE edge on the pitching side. Do you disagree? -

QUOTE (flavum @ May 30, 2013 -> 04:50 PM) I would say it's a dumb argument. Who cares? Both team's seasons end on September 29. I would agree it's a dumb argument, but I can't stand posters who only come to PHT when the team sucks in order to drop some stupid, holier than thou comment like "I'm a realist and the Cubs are clearly the more talented teams because ". -

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 30, 2013 -> 04:44 PM) The Sox are still a better team than the cubs. I don't care what anyone says. The sox did not show up this series period. They have had solid SP this entire year and Danks and Peavy implode. You have to expect your SP to do better than 4 IP. We know what the White Sox offense is, that hasn't changed. Since RV is hell bent on his s***ty lineup, it will continue unless these overpaid assholes break out of their slump. This. The Sox may very well be a bad team, but anyone who honestly thinks the Cubs' current roster is more talented is a complete f***ing idiot. -

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ May 30, 2013 -> 04:04 PM) I enjoy distancing myself from Soxtalk for awhile and then returning and reading through posts by the same members (often year to year) who cannot seem to recognize a White Sox team for what it is. I don't know if immersing yourself in every pitch of every game and then coming on here to discuss it every day removes you objectivity, but it's troubling in some cases. This is not a well constructed ballclub. They will not be winning in the playoffs. That doesn't make them less talented than the Cubs though. -
