  1. We really need to fire Jeff Manto. How the f*** does Dunn only have 1 walk this year?
  2. We really need Rios or Dunn to jack one. I don't have a lot of faith in our offense being able to string multiple hits together tonight.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 08:05 PM) Correct! If guys aren't good at the bunt, don't ask them to! But back in Robin's day everyone could bunt!
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 08:03 PM) This lack of hitting with RISP is hard to watch. Just too many easy outs in this lineup right now. Doesn't help when the manager is giving away outs.
  5. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 08:01 PM) That doesn't seem possible. Honestly, I think Robin likes small ball more than pre World Series Ozzie.
  6. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 07:57 PM) Why bunt? Connor can score on a single! Because for some f***ing reason Robin loves bunting more than Ozzie!?!
  7. I was about to say I hate bunting. What a f***ing joke.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 07:50 PM) And they're in a predicament with Rios. He's our best player, by far. Not even close. Except with his age, his career history (2009 and 2011)...do you dare sign him to a 2-3 year deal? I can't imagine a team completely rebuilding almost their entire line-up would be in a position to keep him in his mid 30's. Just doesn't make sense. As good as Gillaspie has looked, at some point he's going to have to show some power. Dude, we have Rios under contract for another year plus a team option. You are looking way too far into the future. A lot of things could change between now and then, no reason to worry about an extension anytime soon.
  9. Holy f*** Rios! Let's just give him AL MVP right now!
  10. That third base umpire has an awesome mustache. Probably the most enjoyable thing I've seen all game.
  11. God damn Kipnis. I hate him and his entire family of crooks.
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 06:35 PM) Cut to 5 years from now, and he's a relief pitcher for Kannapolis. j/k Don't get me wrong, I go back and forth on the subject myself. However, maybe with toolsy prospects it makes more sense to rush them against better pitching before they develop bad against bad pitching and find it harder to make adjustments. Thompson is a great example, as he struggled at first in A+ but was awesome in the 2nd half.
  13. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 06:37 PM) Too.Many.Pitches. Just about to say this. We really need Quintana to go at least 6 innings tonight.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 06:31 PM) Wise should be playing tonight instead of Viciedo, as Masterson has dominated him so far in his career. The problem is that Viciedo has already sat two games in a row. While Wise is obviously the more ideal matchup, we really need to get Tank going and not facing live pitching for three straight games isn't going to help. It's a tough call, but I'd go Viciedo tonight.
  15. I think the Sox believe he will develop quicker if he faces more advanced pitching at A+ and is forced to make adjustments.
  16. Plobably a good time to give Flowers a rest.
  17. The self righteousness on this board is unreal. If you think it was ok for Quentin to charge the mound or simply don't think the act was a big deal, then you're automically assigned meatball status. People need to get off their high horses around here. This is clearly not a black and white issue, so please stop acting like it's one.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 04:35 PM) Okay, just for argument, compare Courtney Hawkins to all the white players he's SO similar to... Remember, they also should be able to do back-flips or the comp is not valid. Probably the reason those names were mentioned is because they ended up as utility guys or non-starters at the big league level or just never made it, as was the case with Shelby, who a lot of minor league followers liked because of his perceived versatility. If you compare African-American players to all white players, everyone will say you're being ridiculous or too PC. I thought we already had this same exact argument last year, did we not? How many times do Hispanic middle infielders get compared to white players? How many times do white NBA basketball players get compared to Larry Bird, John Stockton, Steve Nash, etc.? But the three comps you used were all incredibly different types of players with different types of tools. It would basically be like comparing an OF prospect to all three of Hawkins, Walker, & Short. Would that make any sense?
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 04:38 PM) The problem is that none of them have any value on the trade market, unless there's a huge market for Jake Peavy nobody knows about. I think everyone in baseball is waiting to see if he'll rebound from the 2nd half of 2012 and look like the same guy he was in the first half. Quintana, Axelrod and Danks, no way. Floyd...marginal prospect. That leaves Sale, who's not going anywhere, and Santiago, who probably will end up realizing his potential with another organization should they actually go ahead and trade him. You don't think Peavy has a ton of value??
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 02:55 PM) Damn... Wasn't in my top three, but probably a big statement to Donnie Veal to start throwing some strikes against lefties. Are you mistaking him for Charlie Leesman? Heath is a righty so I'm not sure how this affects Veal. Also, my guess is Heath won't be up very long. I bet they called him up in case they need a multi-inning reliever in the next few days and if/when they use him he'll get sent down and Omogrosso will be called up the next day. There's way Heath jumped Omogrosso on the depth chart already.
  21. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 01:05 PM) 5. Dunn 6. Viciedo 7. Ramirez 8. Flowers 5, 6, and 8 are going to K 400 times. It goes deeper than than batting order. You still have to try maximizing your production using the talent you currently have on your roster. I can't think of any argument for why Dunn should bat ahead of Konerko, at least not in his current form (i.e. a .200 hitter). As for the bottom half of the lineup, there is no solution unless Viciedo & Flowers improve with experience. I haven't liked what I've seen out of them so far, but it's only been 9 games. It's way too early to jump to conclusions on them. The only good news for the Sox is that Rios is straight beasting right now and making up for some of the other players' lackluster starts.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 09:36 AM) Are the Giants really so good and deep (especially considering Sandoval's history) that they can afford to trade someone with the ability to be an everyday player at 3B for someone who, at best, is 2-3 years away and profiles only as a reliever in Soptic? He was out of options and maybe the Giants didn't have room for him on their bench.
  23. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 10:21 AM) The flip flop sounds good but it also stacks 3 righties in a row. Not sure if that's a good thing or not. Kepp and De Aza have to do a better job getting on base because Rios is hot right now. What about if we did... 1 De Aza 2 Kepp 3 Gilespie 4 Rios Wow, Gillaspie should not be batting third under any circumstances. I get that's he been hitting well, but there's a reason we got him for a minor league relief prospect a week before the season. Keep him in the 7 hole to break up some of the low contact, right-handed hitters we have down there. Also, Rios is pretty close to even against RHP & LHP over the course of his career and while Paulie is better against LHP he's no slouch against RHP. I don't there's much of an issue having three right-handed batters in a row when two of them are Rios & Konerko.
  24. QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 12, 2013 -> 08:31 AM) You guys are really funny. So you agree that we have to get rid of Dunn, but don't like the idea of taking a chance on Sizemore. OK, what left handed bat is available? You can't seriously believe that the Sox could be competitive without a singe left handed hitter besides de Aza. Sizemore's performance before he went on the DL is irrelevant. You don't seriously think that he's a .220 hitter, when healthy, do you? His only issue is health. I'd rather gamble on that, then Dunn learning to make contact at this late date in his career. Come on now, we're not taking Dunn out of the lineup. He hasn't been that bad, at least not since 2011. The problem is with De Aza, Keppinger, & Rios at the top of the lineup, guys with solid OBP and speed (at least De Aza & Rios), having Dunn's all or nothing approach in the cleanup spot is killing us. We need to flip flop him and Paulie. Let's take advantage of Konerko's significantly better contact abilities and not strand all these baserunners when Dunn fails to hit a HR. I'm cool with Dunn batting behind Konerko. PK is so slow that it's almost always going to take two hits to drive him from 1st. Having Dunn's all or nothing approach is fine there. I just don't see any value in batting Dunn in front of Konerko.
